The Park Street Bridge is a double-leaf bascule drawbridge spanning 372 feet of the Oakland Estuary in the San Francisco Bay Area. It links the cities of Oakland and Alameda. In a year, the bridge is opened approximately 1700 times and carries approximately 40,000 vehicles per work day. It was built when the Oakland Estuary was trenched, converting Alameda from a peninsula to an island. The Park Street bridge is one of the four bridges that allow access to Alameda. It is considered the best route for bicycles to cross to Alameda as the small narrow walkway in the Posey Tube is difficult to navigate if there is another pedestrian or bicyclist also using it.According to the Historic Bridges.org, The design of this fixed trunnion bascule bridge is strikingly similar to the earliest fixed trunnion bascule bridges built in Chicago in the first decade of the 20th Century including external rack (visible at the ends of the trusses) and through truss design (with no overhead bracing at the center of the bridge), however this California example dates to 1935.

Jingletown is a pocket arts community in Oakland, California, adjacent to the Oakland Estuary, and about two miles southeast of Lake Merritt. It is bounded by the Coast Guard Island Bridge and Fruitvale Bridges, which connect Oakland to the City of Alameda. It is part of the area called Fruitvale (formerly, Brays and Fruit Vale) in East Oakland. Many working artists live in converted lofts that are common in the area.

The Pacific Coast Engineering Company or PACECO is an American industrial fabricator and mechanical engineering company, and was previously a shipbuilding company in Oakland, California and then Alameda, California. To support the World War II demand for ships, PACECO shipyard switched over to military construction and built US Navy Tugboats. As early as February of 1920, PACECO was reported to be bidding on a contract to make alterations or improvements to a Japanese steamer in Seattle. Started as a mechanical engineering company, PACECO began operations in its Oakland shipyard in 1922. The Oakland shipyard at the 14th Street terminus was acquired by the US. Navy in 1940 for World War II needs. PACECO moved the shipyard to 350 Blanding Avenue, Alameda. The new yard did prefab sub assemblies for the other Bay Area shipyards, like the Richmond Shipyards. In 1943, PACECO built its first of five US Navy tugboats. After the war, PACECO built tugboats, barges, and container cranes. The first quayside container gantry crane was developed by PACECO in 1959. PACECO was sold to Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in 1967. Fruehauf ended shipbuilding in 1976 and changed to build primarily container crane and container chassis. The Alameda shipyard was on the south side of the Tidal Canal, just west of the Park Street Bridge on the Oakland Estuary in the San Francisco Bay Area. As of 2021, the site was a vacant lot.

Fernside is a neighborhood of Alameda in Alameda County, California. It lies at an elevation of 13 feet (4 m). Located near the Fruitvale and High Street bridges, it previously contained one train line which passed over the Fruitvale Bridge and another which followed the perimeter of Alameda's South Shore.

The Alameda Free Library is the city library of Alameda, California. The Carnegie library was built from 1902 to 1903 and was the first designated building for the city's library, which had been housed in various other buildings since 1877.

Alameda City Hall is a historic city hall civic building in Alameda, California. The building has been continually used since it was first built in 1895. It has a historical marker erected in 1998 by the Native Sons of the Golden West; and is listed as one of the National Register of Historic Places since 1980.

The Ghost Ship warehouse fire was a fire that occurred in a former warehouse in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, California, that had been converted into an artist collective with living spaces. The fire occurred on December 2, 2016, at approximately 11:20 p.m. PST. At the time, the warehouse was hosting a concert featuring artists from the house music record label 100% Silk. The warehouse was only zoned for industrial purposes and residential and entertainment uses were illegal.Of the 80 to 100 people attending the concert, 36 were killed, making it the deadliest fire in the history of Oakland. It was also the deadliest building fire in the United States since The Station nightclub fire in 2003, the deadliest in California since the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the deadliest mass-casualty event in Oakland since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.The Alameda County District Attorney's office launched an investigation into the fire's causes, and in 2017 charged Ghost Ship's master tenant Derick Almena and his assistant Max Harris with felony involuntary manslaughter. In 2018, both pleaded no contest to thirty-six counts of involuntary manslaughter in a plea bargain with prosecutors, but the judge overseeing the case discarded the plea deals and the pair were put on trial, facing up to 36 years in prison. On September 4, 2019, the jury deadlocked 10-2 for conviction on the 36 counts manslaughter charges against Almena, resulting in a mistrial, while Harris was acquitted on all 36 counts. In 2021, Almena pled guilty to the 36 counts of manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison and released on time served.In July 2020, the City of Oakland settled a civil lawsuit for the victims and agreed to pay a total of $33 million; $9 million to one person who survived with lifelong injuries, and $24 million to the families of the 36 who perished in the fire. In August 2020, Pacific Gas and Electric Company settled a civil lawsuit for 32 of the victims for an undisclosed amount.

The bridge was built when the Oakland Estuary was trenched, converting Alameda from a peninsula to an island. The High Street Bridge is one of the four bridges and two tunnels that allow access to Alameda.

The Alameda Theatre is an Art Deco movie theatre built in 1932 in Alameda, California. It opened with a seating capacity of 2,168. It was designed by architect Timothy L. Pflueger and was the last grand movie palace built in the San Francisco Bay Area. It closed in the 1980s as a triplex theatre and was later used as a gymnastics studio. A restoration and expansion project was completed in 2008, making the historic theater the primary anchor of an eight-screen multiplex.

The Masonic Temple and Lodge are two adjacent Masonic buildings in downtown Alameda, California. The older Masonic Temple at 1329–31 Park St was built from 1890 to 1891. The building was designed in the Victorian Eclectic style and features brick piers which extend above the roof line, a tower on the south side of the roof, and an arched stone entrance with carved doors. The newer Masonic Lodge adjacent to the original temple at 2312 Alameda Ave is a Spanish Renaissance building constructed in 1927, and was added to provide both an auto parking lot on the ground floor, and an elevator to all four floors of the building that had only previously been accessible by stairs. The building features decorative carvings which adorn its entrances, archways, cornices, and window surrounds, and features two lodge rooms side by side, allowing both Masons and Eastern Stars to meet at the same time, as well as a full kitchen and dining room on the top floor. The Large Lodge Room features a built-in wheel of stained glass emblems in the symbolic East, allowing the room to be quickly changed from a Blue Lodge to the emblem of other frequent renters with a turn of the wheel, as well an organ loft with trap door to a Room of Contemplation, and a passage with multiple hidden doors to the lodge rooms for use in Appendant Body ceremonies. Two of the original stained glass windows from the front of the Park Street face of the Masonic Temple were removed before its sale and are now displayed in the Small Lodge Room of the currently active Masonic Lodge. Oak Grove Lodge #215 (originally located in the Temple and then later moving to the Lodge) helped build the city's first school and the First Methodist Episcopal Church. Prominent members of lodges which met in the building have included U.S. congressmen Joseph R. Knowland and William Knowland, poet Joaquin Miller, and eight of Alameda's mayors.Because the name "Alameda Masonic Lodge" was already taken by #163 in Fremont, CA (the Fremont Lodge is adjacent to Alameda Creek), "Island City Masonic Lodge" is the modern name of Masonic Lodge #215 today in the city of Alameda (which continues to use the number #215 in honor of Oak Grove Lodge). The modern street entrance to the Lodge is not on Park Street, but at 2312 Alameda Ave, Alameda, CA. Originally the first floor of the building was the member's car parking lot, but the car entrances have since been glassed in and become home to the Alameda Museum. Informal meetings are Thursday nights 6pm, with the fancier "Trestleboard" dinner the first Thursday of each month. Alameda Oak Leaf #8, the co-ed Order of the Eastern Star, also meets at the Alameda Masonic Temple, as does the Oakland Council No. 12 Cryptic Masons of the Oakland York Rite, an advanced masonic order open only to regular Master Masons of the Grand Lodge of California, and Pharos Lodge, an irregular co-ed masonic lodge not under the authority of the Grand Lodge of California and not in communication with first three regular masonic bodies in the same building. The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Park Street Historic Commercial District, also known as Park Street District, is the downtown neighborhood in Alameda, California. It is on the east side of the island of Alameda, near the Fruitvale Bridge and across the water and from Jingletown in Oakland, California; and is roughly bounded by Oak Street, Park Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, and Encinal Avenue. The earliest part of the area was built in the 1860s–1880s, with the first commercial nodes located near the train lines. The Park Street Historic Commercial District has been listed as a historic district by the National Register of Historic Places since May 12, 1982; and as a California Historical Landmark (No. N1105) since 1982.
