The Bethlehem Baptist Church in Los Angeles was designed by architect R.M. Schindler, and built in 1944. Located in the Central-Alameda district of Los Angeles. on the corner of Compton Avenue and 49th Street, it is the only example of a church designed by Schindler, and "the lone example of Modernist architecture to cross Los Angeles economic and racial boundaries in the era of Jim Crow housing covenants".

Central-Alameda is a 2.18 square miles (5.65 km2) square mile neighborhood within the South Los Angeles region of Los Angeles, California.

Pueblo Del Rio is a public housing project located in the Central-Alameda neighborhood of South Los Angeles, California. The address of Pueblo Del Rio is 1801 East 53rd Street, which is near the intersection of 55th and Alameda streets.

Thomas Jefferson High School, usually referred to as Jefferson High School, is a public high school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Founded in 1916, it is the fourth oldest high school in the school district. Located in South Los Angeles, its surrounding communities are Downtown, Central-Alameda, Florence, Historic South-Central and South Park. Jefferson's school colors are kelly green and gold and the sports teams are called the Democrats, or Demos for short. In 2006, a pilot program called New Tech: Student Empowerment Academy began in the northeast portion of the school. New Tech has since become a separate charter school housed in the Jefferson building. In 2016 New Tech closed down and the available space is now used by Nava College Preparatory Academy a pilot school that was established in 2014.

Amoco Junction was a junction on the Pacific Electric Railway's Southern District. It was located in Nevin, South Central Los Angeles at 25th Street and Long Beach Boulevard. It was named after a nearby American Olive Company (AmOCo) plant. It was the junction where the Santa Monica Air Line split off from the Watts, Long Beach and other Southern District Lines. It was one of several points at which a tower crossed the quadruple tracks between Downtown Los Angeles and Watts. Despite being a junction, many lines did not stop at Amoco, which was only served by local lines. Service was provided to Amoco Junction between 1904 and 1958. Though it is located along the route of the Los Angeles Metro A Line, it is not a stop or station on it, nor did it become a station on the Expo Line that replaced the Santa Monica Air Line.

Nevin is a neighborhood in South Los Angeles, California. It consists of the area surrounding the street and school of the same name. Broadly construed, the neighborhood is bounded by Washington Boulevard, Alameda Street, Vernon Avenue and Hooper Avenue. The neighborhood is working-class and industrial in nature; most of the housing stock is apartments or multi-family residential. It is one of the poorest and most densely populated areas of Los Angeles. Though the neighborhood, like the rest of South LA once had a predominantly African-American population, today the population is primarily Hispanic and other ethnicities, still with a large African American minority. The neighborhood is in ZIP codes 90011 and 90058. Nevin is listed as a populated place by the US Geological Survey.

Clement Junction, CA (elev. 217' MSL) is a populated place (US Census Class Code U6; Location #1660495) located in Los Angeles County, California, at latitude 34º00'50" N and longitude 118º14'20" W, and appears as a named place on the U.S. Geological Survey Los Angeles 7.5' Topographical Quadrangle Map. The community derives its name from the major railroad junction situated there which was named for Canadian-born civil engineer and surveyor Lewis Metzler Clement (1837-1914), Chief Assistant Engineer (later Acting Chief Engineer) and Superintendent of Track of the Central Pacific Railroad Company of California (1862–81). At that location the Southern Pacific Railroad main line (MP 485.4) to Los Angeles via the San Joaquin Valley from Northern California (opened in 1876) joined with the rails of the already existing 22-mile Los Angeles & San Pedro Railroad which the SP had acquired in 1874, and thus established a rail link to San Francisco, Sacramento, and the East via the Pacific Railroad (CPRR/UPRR). Opened in 1869 to provide rail service for the Port of Los Angeles, the LA&SPRR was the first railroad built in Southern California. Now primarily an industrial area, Clement Junction is located approximately three miles due South of Los Angeles City Hall and two miles due East of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Union Pacific Railroad acquired the tracks of the railroad junction (along with its associated freight yard and sidings) in 1996 when it merged with the Southern Pacific Transportation Company, although the former SP Santa Monica Branch, which once connected at the junction, had been abandoned in 1989.

Ralph J. Bunche House, also known as the Ralph Bunche Peace & Heritage Center and located in South Los Angeles, United States, was the Victorian-Bungalow style boyhood home of Nobel Peace Prize winner Ralph Bunche. It was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (No. 159) by the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission in 1976, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Before Camp Latham or Camp Drum existed in the District of Southern California during the American Civil War there was Camp Fitzgerald, located somewhere near downtown Los Angeles. Camp Fitzgerald was organized sometime after May 3 and before October 1861 by James H. Carleton out of Fort Tejon. Camp Fitzgerald was named for Edward H. Fitzgerald, a U.S. Army Major who had himself established Fort Jones but had died of consumption in January 1860. The New York Times mentioned the establishment of the camp, which then had four companies of men, on July 31, 1861: "...four companies of United States regulars were recalled from neighboring stations, and now occupy tents fronting the city named."However Camp Fitzgerald was in a disadvantageous location for a "permanent camp and supply base," not least because of the distance from the port at San Pedro. Camp Fitzgerald was apparently relocated three times in hopes of finding better water and pasture for the horses but an ideal site was never found and Camp Fitzgerald, like Camp Latham, was eventually closed in favor of the Drum Barracks site which ultimately became the headquarters of the Army of the Pacific in southern California. Camp Fitzgerald likely lasted for less than a year, if that, but the exact date of closure is unclear.

The Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Building was built in 1928 and for many years housed one of Los Angeles's most successful African American-owned businesses, the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company. The building is located in the heart of the city's Central Avenue commercial district that was a center of the jazz world in the 1930s and 1940s. The two-story building was designed by architect James H. Garrott and constructed by Louis Blodgett (both African Americans) in the Mission Revival style. The company occupied the second floor, while the first floor was rented out to local merchants. The noted Dunbar Hotel is located on the next block to the north. In 1949, the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company moved to its new headquarters at 1999 West Adams, now also an historic building. The structure was later converted into a child development center known as the Dunbar Child Development Center. In 1998, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mixografia is a publisher of fine art prints and a contemporary art gallery located in the Central-Alameda neighborhood southeast of Downtown Los Angeles. Mixografia also refers to the workshop's printing process of the same name, which involves the production of handmade paper editions that make use of three-dimensional relief and surface texture.

The Dunbar Hotel, originally known as the Hotel Somerville, was the focal point of the Central Avenue African-American community in Los Angeles, California, during the 1930s and 1940s. Built in 1928 by John Alexander Somerville, it was known for its first year as the Hotel Somerville. Upon its opening, it hosted the first national convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to be held in the western United States. In 1930, the hotel was renamed the Dunbar, and it became the most prestigious hotel in LA's African-American community. In the early 1930s, a nightclub opened at the Dunbar, and it became the center of the Central Avenue jazz scene in the 1930s and 1940s. The Dunbar hosted Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Lena Horne, and many other jazz legends. Other noteworthy people who stayed at the Dunbar include W. E. B. Du Bois, Joe Louis, Ray Charles, and Thurgood Marshall. Former heavyweight champion Jack Johnson also ran a nightclub at the Dunbar in the 1930s. No longer a hotel, the building was renovated in the 2010s and is now part of a larger residential community named Dunbar Village.
