The Sutliff Bridge is a bridge over the Cedar River at Sutliff, a Johnson County community near Lisbon, Iowa, United States. A Parker truss bridge, it was built in 1897 and 1898 at a cost of approximately $12,000. J. R. Sheely was the engineer for the original Sutliff Bridge. After a modern replacement was built over the Cedar in 1983, the bridge was slated for destruction, but it was ultimately saved, and on May 15, 1998, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.Although the bridge remained a celebrated location for locals and for visitors from across Iowa, including a 5k foot race beloved as the “worst road race in America", it succumbed to massive floods in the second week of June 2008: while the river normally flowed many feet below the bottom of the bridge, the floods topped the bridge's deck, and one of the bridge's spans was washed away on June 13 as the surrounding countryside was inundated with vast amounts of water. It is estimated that restoring the bridge will cost $1.7 million. Most of this money would come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), with the rest coming from donations and local governments; both FEMA and the Johnson County Board of Supervisors have agreed in principle to repair the bridge. The bridge reconstruction was supervised by VJ Engineering of Coralville, Iowa, and construction was completed by Iowa Bridge and Culvert of Washington, Iowa. In October 2012 a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, opening the bridge to public use for the first time in four years.

Sutliff is an unincorporated community in Cedar Township, Johnson County, Iowa, United States, just south of Lisbon. The community was founded at the location of Sutliff's ferry. The ferry was operated from 1838 or 1840 onward by Allen (or Allan) C. Sutliff (1796–1873), the elder brother of the Ohio Supreme Court Judge Milton Sutliff (1806–1878). Sutliff, later sold the ferry service to Jim McLellan, whose nickname of "Butts" also tagged the community with the name Buttsville. The community is known for its bridge, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which was badly damaged during the Iowa Flood of 2008. Baxa's Sutliff Store & Tavern is the main public business. The Sutliff Store has been sitting on the banks of the Cedar River next to the Historic Sutliff Bridge since 1899. The Sutliff Bridge was reconstructed through FEMA funding approved by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors by a 3–2 vote. The reconstruction was supervised by VJ Engineering and construction was completed by Iowa Bridge and Culvert of Washington, Iowa. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in October 2012 to open the bridge to the public again. It had been closed for four years following the devastation of the 2008 flood.

Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church is a former parish church of the Diocese of Davenport. The church is located in rural Solon, Iowa, United States. The property is on a gravel road east of Iowa Highway 1 between Solon and Mount Vernon in rural Johnson County. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Cottage at Rock and Dubuque Streets is a historic building located in Solon, Iowa, United States. It is a good example of applying elements of the Queen Anne style to a small-scale residence. The railroad arrived in Solon in 1870, which allowed the availability of ready made millwork for its construction. It was built sometime after 1870. The 1½-story frame structure has two porches. They feature turned columns, posts, and simple turned gingerbread ornamentation. The cottage was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Solon Community School District is a rural public school district based in Solon, Iowa. The district is mainly in Johnson County, with a small area in Linn County, and serves the town of Solon and surrounding areas, including the area around Lake MacBride.Dr. Davis Eidahl was hired as the superintendent in 2015.The school's mascot is the Spartans. Their colors are orange and black.

Solon is a city located in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. Part of the Iowa City, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area, it is located a few miles from Lake MacBride State Park and the larger cities of Coralville and Iowa City. The population was 3,018 at the time of the 2020 census.

Ivanhoe was a town in Franklin Township, Linn County, Iowa, United States. It was founded by early Iowa settlers, and laid out as a town by Anton Cowles at the intersection of the Old Military Road and the Red Cedar River. It was laid out in 1838 and surveyed in 1841. Ivanhoe was never platted, though it did have its own post office from 1845–49. Unlike other towns founded around that time on the Old Military Road, Ivanhoe faded away; many of its residents relocated to Mount Vernon, Cedar Rapids, or Marion. The February 1921 edition of The Palimpsest describes the area as having been "a refuge for horse thieves and dealers in counterfeit money", though it is unclear whether that was during the time that the town existed or afterwards. Besides the cemetery there are no standing structures left of the old town.

Stone Academy in Solon, Iowa is a public one-room schoolhouse believed to have been built in 1842, located about two miles north of Solon's town center along the west side of Iowa Highway 1, which was the Old Military Road linking Dubuque to Iowa City. It was formerly known as the Big Grove Township School #1. It is one of the oldest surviving school buildings in Iowa.It is a rectangular building built of limestone from the McCune quarry about two miles away. Its interior walls are plastered.It is currently a museum, open for tours by appointment only.

Henyon-Kasper-Duffy Barn is a historic building located south of Solon, Iowa, United States. The barn was built for Bradford "Hoss" Henyon in 1876. He owned this farm from 1848 until his death in 1879. He used the barn as a changing station for horses on both the stage route and the mail route on the Old Dubuque Road, which passed in front of the farm. James B. Kasper bought the farm from the Henyon's and his son John took over from him. They also housed horses in the barn. John's son-in-law Charles D Duffy bought the farm from John Kasper, his father in law, and then his son Chuck succeeded him in the operation. Charles Duffy and wife Joyce housed hogs and then began the Newport Valley Shorthorn cattle Charles is well known for. The barn is unusually tall for its time. In order to provide additional stability, it employs two tall canted (leaning) posts along with the more common vertical posts in its construction, which is unusual for a barn of this type. The canted posts support a secondary girt below the principal tie beam instead of the principal beam itself. The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Torrance House is a historic building located south of Lisbon, Iowa, United States. Cunningham and Margaret Torrance were natives of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania who settled in Franklin Township in 1847. The inscription stone in the east gable gives the date of this house as 1856. It was one of a few limestone buildings in Linn County even though the region has significant deposits of the stone. The settlement-era dwelling incorporates both vernacular and classical influences in its construction. The vernacular elements include the asymmetry of the facades, and the coursed ashlar and random coursed ashlar stonework. The classical is primarily found in the stone belt courses above the second floor and gable windows on the east elevation, and above both rows of windows on the main facade. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
