Solon is a city located in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. Part of the Iowa City, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area, it is located a few miles from Lake MacBride State Park and the larger cities of Coralville and Iowa City. The population was 3,018 at the time of the 2020 census.

The Solon Community School District is a rural public school district based in Solon, Iowa. The district is mainly in Johnson County, with a small area in Linn County, and serves the town of Solon and surrounding areas, including the area around Lake MacBride.Dr. Davis Eidahl was hired as the superintendent in 2015.The school's mascot is the Spartans. Their colors are orange and black.

Stone Academy in Solon, Iowa is a public one-room schoolhouse believed to have been built in 1842, located about two miles north of Solon's town center along the west side of Iowa Highway 1, which was the Old Military Road linking Dubuque to Iowa City. It was formerly known as the Big Grove Township School #1. It is one of the oldest surviving school buildings in Iowa.It is a rectangular building built of limestone from the McCune quarry about two miles away. Its interior walls are plastered.It is currently a museum, open for tours by appointment only.

Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church is a former parish church of the Diocese of Davenport. The church is located in rural Solon, Iowa, United States. The property is on a gravel road east of Iowa Highway 1 between Solon and Mount Vernon in rural Johnson County. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

KKRQ (100.7 FM) is a classic rock station in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City areas. Known as "100.7 The Fox," the station is operated by iHeartMedia and licensed to Iowa City, Iowa, with studios located in Cedar Rapids. Music on "100.7 The Fox" includes hits from the 1960s through the 1990s, and uses the slogan "The Corridor's Classic Rock". KKRQ broadcasts with a power of 100,000 watts, with transmitter and tower located outside its studios on the north side of Iowa City. Sister station KXIC (800 AM) is located in the same facility. On March 31, 2023 an EF-2 Tornado knocked down the station's radio tower forcing the station off of the air. The station plans on rebuilding their tower and using a temporary transmitter to broadcast in the meantime.

Henyon-Kasper-Duffy Barn is a historic building located south of Solon, Iowa, United States. The barn was built for Bradford "Hoss" Henyon in 1876. He owned this farm from 1848 until his death in 1879. He used the barn as a changing station for horses on both the stage route and the mail route on the Old Dubuque Road, which passed in front of the farm. James B. Kasper bought the farm from the Henyon's and his son John took over from him. They also housed horses in the barn. John's son-in-law Charles D Duffy bought the farm from John Kasper, his father in law, and then his son Chuck succeeded him in the operation. Charles Duffy and wife Joyce housed hogs and then began the Newport Valley Shorthorn cattle Charles is well known for. The barn is unusually tall for its time. In order to provide additional stability, it employs two tall canted (leaning) posts along with the more common vertical posts in its construction, which is unusual for a barn of this type. The canted posts support a secondary girt below the principal tie beam instead of the principal beam itself. The barn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Cedar Township is a township in Johnson County, Iowa, United States.

The Buresh Farm is located west of Solon, Iowa, United States, along the north shore of Lake McBride. Its historic designation includes five frame structures, the farmhouse and four agricultural buildings. All except one of the buildings is thought to have been built around 1894. The house features a gable roof and wide eaves. It has a root cellar beneath it. The barn, granary and wash house all feature board-and-batten construction. The barn has a wide gable roof that slopes to a shed roof on its north elevation. The granary has a saltbox roof. The wash house was originally built as a summer kitchen. Although its construction date is unknown, the hog house appears to be newer than the rest based on its nonconforming shape. While not particularly unique, the farm buildings are largely unaltered and reflect a late 19th-century agricultural operation that is disappearing from Iowa. The farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The Joseph and Clara Amanda H. Moorhead House is a historic building located east of Ely, Iowa, United States. Joseph was a native of Holmes County, Ohio and Clara was from Chemung County, New York. They settled in Putnam Township in 1855 with their two sons. The Moorhead daughters were born in Iowa. The family initially lived in a log house before the original part of this house was built in 1859. The house is the only known residential example of heavy timber-frame construction that remains in Linn County from its settlement period. This construction method was more common in barn construction. The house was originally a rectangular two-story structure with side gables. Additions and a wrap-around porch were added in later years. Two barns associated with the farm, no longer extant, were located across the road. The Moorheads lived here until 1881 when Joseph was elected the county auditor, and they moved into Marion. They retained ownership of the property until 1900. Clara died in Marion in 1901 and Joseph died two years later in Wichita, Kansas, where he lived with one of their daughters. They are buried nearby in the Rogers Grove Cemetery. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
