22nd Street is an east–west street passing through the Noe Valley, Mission, and Potrero Hill districts of San Francisco, California. The street is discontinuous and exists in several sections: the main western section between Hoffman Avenue and the Bayshore Freeway, a segment from Vermont Street to Wisconsin Street, a short alley off of Missouri Street, and an eastern section from Texas Street to Pier 70. Below the elevated Interstate 280 and at-grade eastern section lies 22nd Street station, Caltrain's only station beneath ground level.

The stop, which opened with the line on August 11, 1917, is located on a short rail-only right of way that allows the line to avoid the steep hill on Church Street to the west. The stop has a pair of side platforms located south of 21st Street on a sharp curve. A shelter on the inbound platform - a stucco structure with tile roof that Muni built many of in its early years - was boarded up around 2010. In March 2014, Muni released details of the proposed implementation of their Transit Effectiveness Project (later rebranded MuniForward), which included a variety of stop changes for the J Church line. No changes were proposed to the 21st Street stop.

The stop does not have platforms; passengers board from Liberty Street. In March 2014, Muni released details of the proposed implementation of their Transit Effectiveness Project (later rebranded MuniForward), which included a variety of stop changes for the J Church line. The stop at Liberty Street would be closed due to its proximity to the 20th Street and 21st Street stops. A more limited preliminary project announced in November 2019 will not close the stop due to the steep walk to nearby stops, but it may be closed later by the Rapid Project.

Under that plan, a traffic light would replace the stop signs at the intersection of Church Street and 24th Street; the platforms would be moved to the far side of the intersection in each direction, allowing trains to pass through the signal without stopping.

The Noe Valley public toilet is a planned public toilet in the San Francisco neighborhood Noe Valley. It is planned to occupy approximately 10 by 15 feet (3.0 m × 4.6 m) and to be funded by the State of California to address open defecation in the city. The responsible government agency, San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department, held a press conference in October 2020 in which the department projected its construction to cost $1.7 million. A celebration the city government had planned for the toilet was canceled due to public dissatisfaction with the price and the two year construction timeline. California State Assembly member Matt Haney, representing part of San Francisco, was one of the critics, and stated it showed the city had a "dysfunctional bureaucracy".

The Catacombs was a gay and lesbian S/M leather fisting club in the South of Market area of San Francisco, which operated from 1975 to 1981, and reopened at another location from 1982 to 1984. It was the most famous fisting club in the world. The founder and owner was Steve McEachern. The location was semi-secret and admission was by referral only. It was originally a gay men's club, and Cynthia Slater persuaded the management to open up to lesbians. Among the patrons was Patrick Califia, known then as Pat Califia. The Catacombs has been exhaustively described by sexual anthropologist Gayle Rubin, who calls it "exemplary" in its attempts to deal with the AIDS crisis which would eventually lead to its closure. Patrick Moore devotes a chapter to it in his Beyond Shame: Reclaiming the Abandoned History of Radical Gay Sexuality. Sex educator Carol Queen called it "the place to be seen and to play at during the 1980s."The San Francisco South of Market Leather History Alley consists of four works of art along Ringold Alley honoring leather culture; it opened in 2017. One of the works of art is metal bootprints along the curb which honor 28 people, including Catacombs founder and owner Steve McEachern, who were an important part of the leather communities of San Francisco.

The former Second Church of Christ, Scientist is an historic Christian Science church building located at the corner of Dolores Street and Cumberland Street, across from Dolores Park in the Mission District of San Francisco, California. Mission Dolores Park, often abbreviated to Dolores Park, is a city park in San Francisco, California. It is located two blocks south of Mission Dolores at the western edge of the Mission District. Dolores Park is bounded by 18th Street on the north, 20th Street on the south, Dolores Street on the east and Church Street on the west. The northern end of Dolores Park is located directly across the street from Mission High School. On its eastern, southern and western sides, the park is surrounded by residential buildings of two to four stories, in various architectural styles. The park lies east of Twin Peaks in the warm and sunny microclimate of the Mission neighborhood, which was named one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world in 2016. In recent years, the park's popularity among San Franciscans looking for outdoor relaxation and recreation has increased, and as of 2016 it was attracting up to 7,000–10,000 people on a sunny weekend day.
