Gmina Gorzyce is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Wodzisław County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland, on the Czech border. Its seat is the village of Gorzyce, which lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south-west of Wodzisław Śląski and 54 km (34 mi) south-west of the regional capital Katowice. It is close to where the A1 motorway crosses the border into the Czech Republic to/from Poland The gmina covers an area of 64.47 square kilometres (24.9 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 21,285.

The town fell to Nazi occupation during the 1940s as a result many children were forced to learn German at school and everyone was not permitted to speak polish, however following the defeat of Nazi forces, the troops retreated back to Germany and the people were freed.

Kolonia Fryderyk [kɔˈlɔɲa frɨˈdɛrɨk] is a village in Gmina Gorzyce, Wodzisław County, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. It lies approximately 2 kilometres (1 mi) north-east of Gorzyce, 5 km (3 mi) south-west of Wodzisław Śląski, and 52 km (32 mi) south-west of the regional capital Katowice. It was founded in 1911 as a coal mining settlement. Construction of the Friedrich - Schacht coal mine had begun in 1913 and it began operating for war purposes in 1916. It was closed in 1923.
