Macclesfield Forest

Trentabank Reservoir is within Macclesfield Forest, partly in the Peak District National Park, in England, and is home to rich unimproved uplands and grasslands. The reservoir is surrounded mainly by coniferous plantations and is also home to about 22 pairs of herons. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs past the reservoir.

Forest Chapel stands in an isolated position in the civil parish of Macclesfield Forest and Wildboarclough in Cheshire, England, within the Peak District National Park 4.5 miles (7 km) from Macclesfield. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. It is an Anglican church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield and the deanery of Macclesfield. Its benefice is combined with those of Jenkin Chapel, Saltersford and Holy Trinity, Rainow.

Macclesfield Forest and Wildboarclough is a civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It lies on the western fringe of the Peak District National park. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 189.The parish is small, so there is no parish council; instead, the residents hold a periodic Parish meeting. The area consists mainly of reservoirs, woodland, farmland, and moorland. There are no centres of population, only a few villages and hamlets, most notably Wildboarclough and Langley.

Shutlingsloe is a hill near the village of Wildboarclough, in the east of the county of Cheshire. It stands to the south of Macclesfield Forest, on the edge of the Peak District and within the Peak District National Park.A steep-sided hill with a distinctive profile, sometimes described as the 'Matterhorn of Cheshire', it is the third highest peak in the historic county (Black Hill being the highest and Shining Tor second highest) with an elevation of 506 m (1,660 ft) and commands excellent views over Cheshire. The Peak District Boundary Walk crosses the summit, which is the highest point on the footpath's 200-mile long route.The name derives from old English 'Scyttel's hlaw' meaning 'Scyttel's (personal name) hill' and is one of several 'low' names in the Peak District, from the same Old English root that gives rise to the name "Law" for many hills in southern Scotland.

Tegg's Nose is a hill east of Macclesfield in Cheshire, England. It has a short ridge with a high point of 380 metres (1246 feet) at SJ947725, terminating in a promontory at the southern end. It lies on the western edge of the Peak District, although outside the boundary of the national park. Much of the hill's area falls within the Tegg's Nose Country Park, managed by Cheshire East Council Countryside Management Service; Tegg's Nose is also part of the Environmentally Sensitive Area Scheme.Historically quarried for millstone grit, Tegg's Nose now includes a range of environments including moorland, meadow, farmland, broadleaved woodland and is rich in wildlife. Recreational uses of the area include walking, orienteering, horse riding, fell running, cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing, sledging and fishing.

Lamaload Reservoir is a reservoir near Rainow, Cheshire, England (SJ972750). It lies in the South West Peak within the Peak District National Park, to the west of the Goyt Valley, and is fed by the River Dean. The reservoir is 0.93 km × 0.53 km, with a capacity of 1,909,000 m³, impounded by a multiple-arch, round-headed buttress dam in concrete, whose design was innovative at the time. It was built by Richard Costain Ltd in 1959–63 to serve Macclesfield, which lies to its west, and officially opened in 1965. The reservoir and associated water treatment works are owned by United Utilities. The area is a popular tourist spot, forming an access point for walkers to the surrounding moorland.

Wildboarclough ( WIL-bə-kluf) is a village in east Cheshire, England, in the civil parish of Macclesfield Forest and Wildboarclough within the Peak District National Park. Bilsborough states that the name arises from the rapid rise in levels of the Clough Brook after a heavy fall of rain, but Mills gives it as a deep valley (or clough) frequented by wild boar. According to old legend it was the place where the last wild boar in England was killed.From the nearby summit of Shutlingsloe (506 metres (1,660 ft)), which lies just to the north-west of the village, a wide panorama of the Cheshire Plain and the Peak District can be obtained. In clear conditions the view extends as far as the Mersey Estuary and the Welsh Clwydian Hills 40 miles (64 km) to the west, and the cooling towers of the power stations on the banks of the River Trent 50 miles (80 km) to the east. Nearby is the hamlet of Saltersford. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs through the village.

St Saviour's Church is in the village of Wildboarclough, Cheshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Macclesfield, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield, and the diocese of Chester. Its benefice is combined with those of St Mary the Virgin, Bosley, St Michael, North Rode, and St Michael, Wincle. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Langley is a semi-rural village in civil parish of Sutton, in the Cheshire East district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, on the River Bollin, near Macclesfield and Macclesfield Forest. In 2020 it had an estimated population of 554.Langley Mill, founded by William Smith in 1826, became the biggest silk printing, dyeing and finishing works in the world. The mill later went on to become Specialised Automobile Services, a specialist wire wheel manufacturer for classic and modern cars. The painter Charles Tunnicliffe was born in Langley and painted many birds at the four reservoirs behind the village in Macclesfield Forest. The village pub, The St Dunstan, is located on Main Road (the main road through the village). Langley also has a Methodist church and a village hall.

Allgreave is a village in Cheshire, England. It lies on the A54 (Buxton to Congleton) road, near to the border with Staffordshire. Allgreave Methodist Chapel is situated in a sharp bend of the A54. The Rose and Crown public house also stands on the main road.

Langley Hall is a country house in the village of Langley, Cheshire, England. It was built in about 1650, and is described by the authors of the Buildings of England series as "a distinguished house". The house is constructed in coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and is roofed in stone slate. It has two-storeys and an attic. The entrance front is symmetrical with seven bays and a central doorway. Above the doorway is a cartouche containing a carved face. It is inscribed MAC 1696 (for M. Clowes and his wife). The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It has been converted into three flats.

Crag Hall is a country house east of the village of Wildboarclough, Cheshire, England. It was built in 1815 by George Palfreyman, the owner of a textile printing works nearby. It has since been extended by the addition of large curved bow windows at each end of the entrance front. The house is constructed in brick-sized blocks of brown sandstone, with ashlar quoins and dressings. It is roofed in slate. The house is in two storeys. The entrance front has five bays. In the centre is a raised portico with four Ionic columns. It is approached from each side by a flight of steps. Its base is rusticated and contains three arched recesses. Above the portico is a window with an entablature. About the house, Figueirdo and Treuherz comment that "it has an imposing air of millstone grit solidity". The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. Associated with the house are three structures listed at Grade II: the gateway with its wing walls, the retaining wall to the garden terrace, and a wall and summer house in the garden.
