Long Bennington

The East Midlands is one of nine official regions of England. It comprises the eastern half of the area traditionally known as the Midlands. It consists of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire (except for North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire), Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, and Rutland. The region has an area of 15,627 km2 (6,034 sq mi), with a population over 4.5 million in 2011. With a sufficiency-level world city ranking, Nottingham is the only settlement in the region to be classified by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.The region is primarily served by East Midlands Airport, which lies between Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. The main cities in the region are Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham. The largest towns in these counties are Boston, Chesterfield, Coalville, Corby, Glossop, Grantham, Kettering, Loughborough, Northampton, Mansfield, Oakham, Swadlincote and Wellingborough.

Long Bennington Priory was a priory in Lincolnshire, England. The church at Long Bennington was granted by Ralf de Fougères, to the Cistercian abbey of Savigny in 1163, but it seems that the priory did not come into existence until around the end of the twelfth century. There is mention of a warden or keeper of the house, appointed from Savigny, on the Patent Rolls of 1319 and 1323. It is believed there was only one monk in residence there. The priory was taken into the king's hands, and restored again, in 1339–40. In 1401 the priory was being farmed for the king by the prior, Michael Rogers, and one Michael Montayn. In 1462 it was granted, with other property of Aliens, for the support of the priory of Mount Grace in Yorkshire.

Westborough is a village in the civil parish of Westborough and Dry Doddington, in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 1 mile (1.6 km) east from the A1 road and Long Bennington, and 6 miles (10 km) north from Grantham. In 1921 the parish had a population of 132. On 1 April 1931 the parish was abolished and merged with Dry Doddington to form "Westborough and Dry Doddington". Nearby to the north is Dry Doddington. The Viking Way and River Witham pass through the village. The name 'Westborough' means 'west fortification'.The village Grade I listed Anglican church is dedicated to All Saints.

Dry Doddington is a small village in the civil parish of Westborough and Dry Doddington, in the north-west of the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 5 miles (8 km) south-east from Newark, approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-west from Grantham, and just over 1 mile (2 km) to the east from the A1 road. In 1921 the parish had a population of 131.

Westborough and Dry Doddington is a civil parish in the north-west of South Kesteven in the county of Lincolnshire. The population of the civil parish was 335 at the 2001 census increasing to 365 at the 2011 census.

Royal Air Force Bottesford or more simply RAF Bottesford is a former Royal Air Force station located on the Leicestershire-Lincolnshire county border, 6.8 miles (10.9 km) north west of Grantham, Lincolnshire and 7.6 miles (12.2 km) south of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire and about 107 miles (172 km) north-northwest of London, England. Opened in 1942, it was used by both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). During World War II it was used primarily as a troop carrier airfield for paratroopers and as a bomber airfield before closing in 1948. Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property with the technical site being used as an industrial estate.One of the runways is currently used by Cazoo for storing cars and the control tower used as an office.

Foston is a village and a civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Grantham. The A1 road runs through the parish and borders the south of the village. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 525.

Staunton (also known as Staunton-in-the-Vale) is a small village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. It takes its name from the Vale of Belvoir and shares it with the local Staunton family, which has resided in the area since the Norman Conquest and possibly before, making them one of the English families living longest on its own estate.

Debdale Meadow, Muston is a 4.3-hectare (11-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Muston in Leicestershire.This traditionally managed meadow has diverse flora typical of the clay soils of the Midlands, and it has evidence of medieval ridge and furrow cultivation. Flora include cowslip, bulbous buttercup and pepper-saxifrage.The site is private land with no public access.

Claypole is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 1,382. It is situated 4 miles (6.4 km) south-east from the market town of Newark-on-Trent, just east of the Grantham to Newark stretch of the A1. The name Claypole is from the Old English 'clæg' and 'pol', for "clayey pool". The village is recorded in the Domesday Book as "Claipol" and as having a church, a priest and one mill.

Fernwood is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. The parish, which then included Balderton, had a population of 10,298 in 2001. It is a suburb of Newark-on-Trent. The population of the civil parish was given as 2,190 in the 2011 Census. Balderton was by that time a separate civil parish. Modern Fernwood expansion has taken place on the site of the old Balderton Hospital which closed in 1993, with street names based on names of former hospital wards and employees.Following years of planning, preparatory work was started in 2023 to create an extension and bypass-link from the A1 near Fernwood, via Middlebeck to the A46 at Farndon.

Claypole railway station was a station in Claypole, Lincolnshire that was in operation from 1852 to 1957.
