Piotrowice-Ochojec (German: Petrowitz-Ochojetz) is a district of Katowice, Poland. It has an area of 12,08 km2 and in 2007 had 25,110 inhabitants.

Zarzecze (German: Zarzetsche) is a district of Katowice in southern Poland. It has an area of 5.1 km2 and in 2007 had 1,902 inhabitants.The literal meaning of the name is a land behind a river.

Piotrowice (German: Petrowitz, Czech: Petrovice) is a part of Katowice, located in the southwestern part of the city, in the Piotrowice-Ochojec district. It is one of the oldest settlements within the modern boundaries of Katowice, with its history dating back to the historic settlement of Uniczowy. The first mention of the village of Piotrowice appears in a document from the mid-15th century. Until the early 20th century, Piotrowice was a typical agricultural settlement, where mills were also operating, including several on the Ślepotka river. Over time, the village transformed into an industrial settlement, and the population grew, along with the development of educational and cultural activities. In 1907, a factory for mining machinery – later known as Famur – was established in Piotrowice. In April 1951, Piotrowice were incorporated into Katowice, and during the times of the Polish People's Republic, new residential estates were built in the district: Targowisko and Odrodzenia. The main thoroughfares of Piotrowice are: Tadeusza Kościuszko Street (part of the national road 81), Armii Krajowej Street, and Zygmunt Walter-Janke Street. Additionally, the northern part of the settlement is crossed by a railway line, where the Katowice Piotrowice train station is located – the station building itself is the seat of the Iron Theater. Piotrowice is home to various types of enterprises, and it also houses the Police School in Katowice and the Wojciech Korfanty University of Silesia.

Kostuchna (German: Kostuchna) is a district of Katowice. It has an area of 8.59 km2 and in 2007 had 8,233 inhabitants.

The Silesian Insurgents' Monument in Kostuchna (Polish: Pomnik Powstańców Śląskich w Kostuchnie) is a A monument in the southern part of Katowice, located in the Kostuchna district, on Blessed Stanisław Kubista Square, near the Church of the Most Holy Trinity.

Podlesie (German: Podlesche) is a district of Katowice. It has an area of 8.28 km2 and in 2007 had 5,240 inhabitants.

The Zadole Park which used to be a hamlet of Piotrowice, but now it belongs to Katowice districts of Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union there is a park with an amphitheater for 800 persons, a swimming-pool complex, a cafe and a playground for children and walking alleys. In 1906-1914 it was a place of the convention of the Polish choirs and bands within the framework of the Singing Societies existing in that region at that time. Students Hostels adjoin the center and not far from them there are tennis courts - free of charge.

Ligota - Panewniki (German: Ellgoth-Panewnik; also "Idaweiche") is a district of Katowice in Poland. It has an area of 12.59 km2 and in 2007 had 31,879 inhabitants.Ligota-Panewniki is famous due to the magnificent Franciscan Basilica, the headquarters of the Franciscan Assumption Province in Poland. During Christmas the church becomes a religious and tourist attraction due to its Christmas Nativity scene, which supposedly is the biggest in Europe. In September 1939, Panewniki was one of the sites of large massacres of Polish defenders of Katowice, carried out by the Germans following the invasion of Poland, which started World War II (see Nazi crimes against the Polish nation). During the subsequent German occupation, the occupiers operated two forced labour camps in Ligota: one for Poles (Polenlager), and one for Jews.

Kalwaria Panewnicka is a complex of chapels located near the Franciscan monastery in Katowice, along with the adjacent park area. The 8-hectare site, owned by the Franciscans of the Province of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Katowice, is enclosed by a brick wall. Within Kalwaria Panewnicka, alongside the Stations of the Cross, there are rosary chapels and the oldest place of worship on the site – the replica of the Massabielle Grotto, built in 1905. Masses are held there during the summer, as well as May devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Asphalt paths connect the various chapels, and the Kłodnica river flows through the site, crossed by four bridges. Kalwaria Panewnicka is also home to a century-old forest stand. Visitors can access the site by passing next to the monastery on Panewnicka Street or through gates from Związkowa and Franciszkańska streets. Kalwaria Panewnicka is a site for outdoor Stations of the Cross services, especially during Lent. It is also the venue for Passion Plays ("Śląska Kalwaria") and the Ecological Song Festival, Ekosong.

The Murcki coal mine is a large mine in the south of Poland in Katowice, Silesian Voivodeship, 260 km south-west of the capital, Warsaw. Murcki represents one of the largest coal reserve in Poland having estimated reserves of 228.2 million tonnes of coal. The annual coal production is around 3.8 million tonnes.

The Medical University of Silesia (Polish: Śląski Uniwersytet Medyczny) is a university located in Katowice, Poland. The university has 10,218 students and a teaching staff of 1201, including 295 professors. There are five faculties: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Health Sciences (includes degrees in nursing, physical therapy, dietetics). The English divisions in the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry have 517 and 57 students, respectively

Kosztowy (German: Kostow) is a quarter of the city of Mysłowice in the Silesian Voivodship of Poland. The formerly independent municipality is approximately 4 km south the city centre of Mysłowice, close to the neighbouring city of Imielin. In the course of a major re-organisation of municipal borders in Upper Silesia it was incorporated into Mysłowice together with Wesoła and Dziećkowice. It has an area of 5,17 km2 and in 2012 had a population of 3,480.
