Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fifth region. The 37th to 40th districts were created by the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) in its 2005 redistricting process and were first contested in the 2006 general election.

The station's pictogram depicts the sculpture on top of the Museo Cabeza de Juárez, found near the station, which in turn depicts the head of Benito Juárez, the 26th president of Mexico, who was born in the town of San Pablo Guelatao, Guelatao Municipality, Oaxaca. Guelatao metro station opened on 12 August 1991 with service westward toward Pantitlán station and eastward toward La Paz metro station. In 2019, the station had an average daily entrance of 21,639 passengers.

The Museo Cabeza de Juárez (English: Head of Juárez Museum) is a museum and monument in Iztapalapa, Mexico City. The top of the structure features a colossal head of Benito Juárez, the 26th president of Mexico. Luis Echeverría, the 57th president of the country, ordered its erection in 1972 – a century after Juárez's death – and it was inaugurated on 21 March 1976, the 170th anniversary of Juárez's birth. The museum's collection features the chronology of Juárez's life, and its esplanade is open for cultural events. Artists Luis Arenal Bastar and David Alfaro Siqueiros were involved in its construction and artistic style.

Iztapasauria (also branded as IztapaSauria) is a free-entry dinosaur theme park in Iztapalapa, Mexico City. It opened on 4 December 2021 inside the Deportivo Utopía Santa Cruz Meyehualco sports center. The theme park has several green areas decorated as a Mezozoic jungle in which there are thirteen animatronic dinosaurs.

Votes cast in the district also count towards the calculation of proportional representation ("plurinominal") deputies elected from the fifth region. The 29th district was created by the 1977 electoral reforms, which increased the number of single-member seats in the Chamber of Deputies from 196 to 300. Under that plan, the State of Mexico's seat allocation rose from 15 to 34. The new districts were first contended in the 1979 mid-term election.
