Karviná (administrative district)

Freistadt District (German: Politischer Bezirk Freistadt, Czech: Politický okres Fryštát, Polish: Powiat polityczny Frysztat) was a political district (equivalent to okres in the Czech Republic and powiat in Poland) in Austrian Silesia, Austria-Hungary existing between 1868 and 1920 (superseded by Czechoslovak Okres Fryštát). Its administrative center was the town of Freistadt (now administratively a part of the city of Karviná, Czech Republic).

Karviná (Czech pronunciation: [ˈkarvɪnaː] ; Polish: Karwina, Polish pronunciation: [karˈvina] , German: Karwin) is a city in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 50,000 inhabitants. It lies on the Olza River in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. Karviná is known as an industrial city with tradition in coal mining. The historic centre in Karviná-Fryštát is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone.

It is a left tributary of the Olza River, which it enters in Karviná. It flows through Albrechtice and Stonava before entering Karviná. The Těrlicko Dam is located on this river. The name is of the river means a murmuring river.

Mizerov (Polish: Mizerów, German: Miserau) is a district of the city of Karviná in Karviná District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It was formerly an independent village but was later incorporated into Fryštát, and later Karviná. It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia and was first mentioned in a written document in 1618. Mizerov has a population of 15,624 (2001).

Ráj (Polish: Raj, German: Roj) is a district of the city of Karviná in Karviná District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic. It was a separate municipality but in 1948 became administratively a part of the city of Karviná. It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia and has a population of 17,142 (2001).The hospital is located there, as well as the football field, home of the local team MFK Karviná. The name is cultural in origin, literally paradise, fertile and beautiful land.

(Polish: , German: Lonkau) (literally, "meadows upon Olza") is a village in the Karviná District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic, since 1975 administratively a part of the city of Karviná as Louky, formerly a separate municipality. It lies on the left bank of the Olza River, in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. It has a population of 453 (2001).
