Oakleigh is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 14 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Monash local government area. Oakleigh recorded a population of 8,442 at the 2021 census.Once a large independent city, Oakleigh was absorbed into Melbourne as part of the eastward expansion of the metropolis in the 1950s. As a result, it once had its own large historic Central Business District, its own municipality in the former City of Oakleigh and its own suburbs. The area is traditionally known to have a strong Greek cultural influence, largely due to the influx of said immigrants to Australia in the mid-20th century. Fourteen per cent of those living in the suburb speak only Greek at home.Although the origin of the name of the suburb, "Oakleigh," is unclear, local historians have three main theories – that it was derived from she-oaks that grew near Scotchmans Creek; from "Oakleigh Park" an estate near Malvern Hills in England; or from Mrs Oakley, an early settler.

The City of Oakleigh was a local government area about 15 kilometres (9 mi) southeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 30.30 square kilometres (11.70 sq mi), and existed from 1891 until 1994.

Huntingdale railway station is a commuter railway station located adjacent to the suburbs of Oakleigh and Huntingdale located in the south east of Melbourne, Victoria in Australia. The station originally opened in 1927 as "East Oakleigh". It did not receive its current name until 1954. The station consists of a single island platform connected to both Railway Avenue and Haughton Road via a pedestrian subway. Huntingdale station is currently served by the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines which are both part of the Melbourne Railway Network. Additionally the station is served by five bus routes including the 601 university shuttle and SmartBus route 900. The station is approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) or around a 30-minute train ride away from Flinders Street.

Oakleigh South is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 17 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Kingston and Monash local government areas. Oakleigh South recorded a population of 9,851 at the 2021 census.A largely residential suburb, its boundaries are North Road to the north, South Road to the south, Warrigal Road to the west and Huntingdale/Clarinda Roads to the east. Oakleigh South Post Office opened on 1 September 1936.

The 2001 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship was a golf tournament that was played from 3–7 January 2001 at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was the third WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the first of three World Golf Championships events held in 2001. Steve Stricker won his first and only World Golf Championships event at the match-play, by defeating Pierre Fulke 2&1 in the 36 hole final.

Jack Edwards Reserve is an Australian soccer ground in Oakleigh, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. It is the home of Oakleigh Cannons. The ground has a single main stand with seating of approx 500. The 2018 World Cup of Golf (known as the 2018 ISPS Handa Melbourne World Cup of Golf for sponsorship reasons) was a golf tournament that was played from 22 to 25 November at Metropolitan Golf Club in South Oakleigh, Victoria, Australia. It was the 59th World Cup. The format is 72-hole stroke play; the first and third days were four-ball (best ball), and the second and fourth days were foursomes (alternate shot) play.The Belgian pair of Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry won with a score of 265, 23-under-par. Australia and Mexico tied for second place, three strokes behind. It was Belgium's first victory in the World Cup.

The suburb has both residential and industrial areas, with the southern sections between Hargeaves Street and North Road being largely industrial. The suburb has a noticeable Muslim and Hindu presence, with a mosque and a Hindu temple, as well as being home to the Australian Islamic Bangladesh Council.
