City of Oakleigh

Oakleigh is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 14 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Monash local government area. Oakleigh recorded a population of 8,442 at the 2021 census.Once a large independent city, Oakleigh was absorbed into Melbourne as part of the eastward expansion of the metropolis in the 1950s. As a result, it once had its own large historic Central Business District, its own municipality in the former City of Oakleigh and its own suburbs. The area is traditionally known to have a strong Greek cultural influence, largely due to the influx of said immigrants to Australia in the mid-20th century. Fourteen per cent of those living in the suburb speak only Greek at home.Although the origin of the name of the suburb, "Oakleigh," is unclear, local historians have three main theories – that it was derived from she-oaks that grew near Scotchmans Creek; from "Oakleigh Park" an estate near Malvern Hills in England; or from Mrs Oakley, an early settler.

Huntingdale railway station is a commuter railway station located adjacent to the suburbs of Oakleigh and Huntingdale located in the south east of Melbourne, Victoria in Australia. The station originally opened in 1927 as "East Oakleigh". It did not receive its current name until 1954. The station consists of a single island platform connected to both Railway Avenue and Haughton Road via a pedestrian subway. Huntingdale station is currently served by the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines which are both part of the Melbourne Railway Network. Additionally the station is served by five bus routes including the 601 university shuttle and SmartBus route 900. The station is approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) or around a 30-minute train ride away from Flinders Street.

The 2001 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship was a golf tournament that was played from 3–7 January 2001 at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was the third WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the first of three World Golf Championships events held in 2001. Steve Stricker won his first and only World Golf Championships event at the match-play, by defeating Pierre Fulke 2&1 in the 36 hole final.

It was the 59th World Cup. The format is 72-hole stroke play; the first and third days were four-ball (best ball), and the second and fourth days were foursomes (alternate shot) play.The Belgian pair of Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry won with a score of 265, 23-under-par. Australia and Mexico tied for second place, three strokes behind. It was Belgium's first victory in the World Cup.

The station opened in 1877 as the up end of the Gippsland line, with the station being electrified in 1922. There is a station building on both platforms which functions as a ticket office, a waiting room and a toilet.
