Church of the Wounds of the Seraphic Father Saint Francis

The Church and Convent of Saint Francis was a religious institution installed in the town of São Paulo during colonial Brazil. In the 19th century, the convent was converted into a Law School. The Church of the Wounds of the Seraphic Father Saint Francis, built by the Secular Franciscan Order, is next to it.The ensemble formed by the Law School and the two churches has great historical value and is situated in Largo de São Francisco, in the Historic Center of São Paulo.

The Law School of the University of São Paulo (in Portuguese: Faculdade de Direito da Universidade São Paulo, also known as Faculdade de Direito do Largo de São Francisco) is an institution of higher education and research in the field of law located in São Paulo, Brazil. It joined the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1934, when the latter was established.

Largo de São Francisco is home to some important landmarks in the history of São Paulo and is considered one of the city's main Baroque architecture complexes. It is also known as the "ground zero" of Brigadeiro Luís Antônio, one of the city's most important avenues.It houses the Law School of the University of São Paulo (FDUSP) and the Álvares Penteado School of Commerce Foundation (FECAP), as well as the Church of Saint Francis and the Church of the Third Order of Penance. The side street is called Cristóvão Colombo.

Matarazzo Building (Portuguese: Edifício Matarazzo), also known as Palácio do Anhangabaú (Anhangabaú Palace) is the city hall of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It belonged to Banespa until 2004, when it was sold to the city government. It was designed by Italian architect Marcello Piacentini under the will of Ermelino Matarazzo, in order to host the headquarters of his industries. The building's architectural style looks like Art Deco. According to the deal made with Banespa, the building would be given to the city government as part of the debt of 885 million reais (some 466 million dollars) that the extinct CMTC had with the bank. The city would then owe 156 million reais, to be paid in four years.

The Patriarca Square (Portuguese: Praça do Patriarca) is located in the Sé district, in the historic center of the Brazilian city of São Paulo. It was inaugurated without a name in the 1910s and remained so until 1922, the year of the centenary of Brazil's Independence, when it was renamed Patriarca José Bonifácio Square; in the 1950s it was shortened to Patriarca Square.The place connects to important points in the city center, such as: Anhangabaú Valley, Viaduto do Chá, and Líbero Badaró, Direita, São Bento, Quitanda and 15 de Novembro Streets. The area is home to the Othon Palace Hotel and the Barão de Iguape and Sampaio Moreira buildings. The Church of Saint Anthony, which is considered to be the oldest church in the center, is in the square.

Barão de Iguape Building is a skyscraper in the older area of downtown São Paulo, Brazil, 133 metres (436 ft) in height with 37 floors, located on Patriarca square on the corner of Direita and Quitanda streets. Its construction was completed in 1959.The building was for years the headquarters of a bank, Unibanco, but this was transferred to another building on the Marginal Pinheiros expressway, next to Eusébio Matoso bridge in the southwestern neighborhood of Pinheiros.

The Prestes Maia Gallery (Portuguese: Galeria Prestes Maia) is an artistic and cultural space located in the city of São Paulo that has an underground connection between Patriarca Square and Anhangabaú Valley, with an exit under the Viaduto do Chá. In 1955, the first public escalators in the city were inaugurated in the gallery's passageway.

Edifício Praça da Bandeira, better known by its former name, Joelma Building, is a 25-story building in downtown São Paulo, Brazil, completed in 1971, located at Avenida 9 de Julho, 225. On 1 February 1974, an air conditioning unit on the twelfth floor overheated, starting a fire. There were 756 people in the building at the time. Because flammable materials had been used to furnish the interior, the entire building was engulfed in flames within 20 minutes. The fire was extinguished at 1:30pm, with 179 deaths and 300 people injured. This happened less than two years after another deadly fire in downtown São Paulo, that of the Andraus Building. As of 2021, the Joelma fire remains the second-worst skyscraper fire ever in terms of the death toll, after the collapse of the twin World Trade Center towers in New York City on September 11, 2001.
