Grijpskerk (Dutch pronunciation: [ɣrɛipsˈkɛr(ə)k]; Gronings: Gruupskerk or Griepskerk [χɾypsˈkɛːk, χɾips-]; West Frisian: Gryptsjerk [ɡripˈtsjɛrk]) is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Westerkwartier, about 18 km west of the city of Groningen. Grijpskerk was a separate municipality until 1990, when it was merged with Zuidhorn.

Niezijl (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈni.zɛi̯l]; Gronings: Nijziel), historically Bomsterzijl (probably from bom, meaning 'low, water-enclosed piece of land'), is a village in the municipality of Westerkwartier in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. The village is located between Grijpskerk and Zuidhorn on the N355, the trunk highway from Leeuwarden to Groningen. As of 2021, Niezijl had a population of 420. The village is intersected by two canals, the Niezijlsterdiep and the Hoerediep. The village originally belonged to the Juursemakluft in the parish Grijpskerk. It got its own church in 1651 and has been an independent church ever since. South of the village, on the Van Starkenborgh Canal, is a restored polder mill, the Zwakkenburgermolen.

Lauwerzijl (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌlʌuərˈzɛil]; Gronings: Lauwerziel or 't Sieltje) is a village in the municipality of Westerkwartier in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. As of 2021, it had a population of 195. Until 1990 the village belonged to the former municipality of Oldehove, then until 2019 to the former municipality of Zuidhorn.

The Munnekezijlstermolen is a smock mill in Munnekezijl, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1856 and is in working order. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument.

Niehove (old name: Suxwort) is a village in the municipality of Westerkwartier in Groningen, Netherlands. The village was located on the island of Humsterland in the former Lauwerszee from c. 800 until c. 1500. It is a terp (artificial living hill) village with two ring roads and the church in the middle. The village is a protected site. In 2019, Elsevier Weekblad named Niehove the most beautiful village of the Netherlands.

Munnekezijl (West Frisian: Muntsjesyl; Gronings: Muntjesiel) is the easternmost village in Noardeast-Fryslân, Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of 488 in January 2017. Before 2019, the village was part of the Kollumerland en Nieuwkruisland municipality. There is a windmill in the village, the Munnekezijlstermolen.

Zoutkamp (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzʌutkɑmp]; Gronings: Zoltkamp [ˈzɔːɫtkɑmp]) is a village in the municipality Het Hogeland which is part of the province Groningen in the Netherlands. The village started as a sconce. During the Dutch Revolt, it was the site of the Battle of Zoutkamp. Later it became a fishing village. The harbour was moved to Lauwersoog in 1969 as a result of the closure of the Lauwersmeer, and is nowadays used for recreational purposes. The economy of the village mainly depends on fishing.

Aalsum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈaːlsʏm]) is a small hamlet in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Westerkwartier, about 1.5 km west of Oldehove.The hamlet was located on a wierde, an artificial dwelling hill. The hill was partially excavated in the 20th century; a bow from the ninth century was found. Plans to reconstruct the hill were canceled. According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, Aalsum had 80 inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century; presumably, this includes the surrounding countryside.

Houwerzijl (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɦʌu.ərˈzɛil]; Gronings: Haauwerziel [ɦaːu̯əɾˈzil]) is a small village in the Netherlands; it is located in the municipality of Het Hogeland, Groningen. Houwerzijl was located on the edge of land and water. Three terps (artificial hills) were built south of the current village, and were one of the oldest in Groningen. The hills contained fertile soil, and large parts have been excavated, and only fragments remain.It was first mentioned in 1347 as Fredericus de Howersyle. The name means the lock (zijl) of the estate (Houw) of Fredericus. The lock was demolished in 1728, because it was no longer needed, and only the house of the operator remains.The Theefabriek is a tea museum and tearoom in the village.
