Zoutkamp (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈzʌutkɑmp]; Gronings: Zoltkamp [ˈzɔːɫtkɑmp]) is a village in the municipality Het Hogeland which is part of the province Groningen in the Netherlands. The village started as a sconce. During the Dutch Revolt, it was the site of the Battle of Zoutkamp. Later it became a fishing village. The harbour was moved to Lauwersoog in 1969 as a result of the closure of the Lauwersmeer, and is nowadays used for recreational purposes. The economy of the village mainly depends on fishing.

As of 2021, it had a population of 195. Until 1990 the village belonged to the former municipality of Oldehove, then until 2019 to the former municipality of Zuidhorn.

Houwerzijl (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɦʌu.ərˈzɛil]; Gronings: Haauwerziel [ɦaːu̯əɾˈzil]) is a small village in the Netherlands; it is located in the municipality of Het Hogeland, Groningen. Houwerzijl was located on the edge of land and water. Three terps (artificial hills) were built south of the current village, and were one of the oldest in Groningen. The hills contained fertile soil, and large parts have been excavated, and only fragments remain.It was first mentioned in 1347 as Fredericus de Howersyle. The name means the lock (zijl) of the estate (Houw) of Fredericus. The lock was demolished in 1728, because it was no longer needed, and only the house of the operator remains.The Theefabriek is a tea museum and tearoom in the village.

It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded a Michelin star in 2016 and retained that until 2020, when it received its second star.Head chef of The Greenhouse is the Finn Mikael Viljanen. Owner of The Greenhouse is Dublin restaurateur Eamonn O'Reilly."Connoisseurs" deemed the restaurant worthy of a Michelin star a few years earlier but to their annoyance, the restaurant did not get the award in either 2013 or 2014. The restaurant got its second star in 2020, one of only four Irish restaurants to ever receive that honour.On 21 May 2021, The Irish Times announced that head chef Mickael Viljanen resigned and joined restaurant Chapter One to take over as head chef from restaurant owner Ross Lewis. As of February 2022, The Greenhouse has not reopened since closing during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Leens (Dutch pronunciation: [leːns]; Gronings: Lains [ɫɑɪns]) is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Het Hogeland. Leens was a separate municipality until 1990, when it was merged with Ulrum, Eenrum and Kloosterburen.

Aalsum (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈaːlsʏm]) is a small hamlet in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Westerkwartier, about 1.5 km west of Oldehove.The hamlet was located on a wierde, an artificial dwelling hill. The hill was partially excavated in the 20th century; a bow from the ninth century was found. Plans to reconstruct the hill were canceled. According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, Aalsum had 80 inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century; presumably, this includes the surrounding countryside.

De Marne (Dutch pronunciation: [də ˈmɑrnə] ) is a former municipality in the northeast of the Netherlands. On 1 January 2019 it merged with the municipalities of Bedum, Eemsmond and Winsum to form the new municipality Het Hogeland.
