Maria Gugging

The Maria Gugging Psychiatric Clinic was a psychiatric institution located in the suburb of Maria Gugging on the outskirts of Vienna, Austria. During the Nazi era hundreds of mental patients were murdered or abused at Gugging as part of the Nazi Aktion T4 program. In the post-war era, several of its patients became known for their Outsider Art and are referred to as the Gugging Artists. Today, several artists live in a dedicated art center at the former clinic site, known as the Art Brut Center Gugging (or just Gugging) which also includes the Gugging Museum and the Gugging Gallery.

The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is an international research institute in natural and formal sciences, located in Maria Gugging, Klosterneuburg, 20 km northwest of the Austrian capital of Vienna. It was established and inaugurated by the provincial government of Lower Austria and the federal government of Austria in 2009. ISTA was established on the model of the Israeli Weizmann Institute of Science by its former president Israeli physicist Haim Harari. Like in the Weizmann Institute, scientists are encouraged to pursue their own goals and ideas not restricted by government or economic interest and all research themes are interdisciplinary.As of 2023, ISTA consists of 76 research groups covering the fields of chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science, mathematics, computer science, data science, biology, and neuroscience. It is expected to grow to about 90 research groups by 2026, and 150 groups by 2036 following commitments from the federal state and Lower Austria. Its graduate school offers an interdisciplinary doctoral program in the life, formal and physical sciences. As of 2022, 320 students were enrolled.

Burg Greifenstein is a castle in Lower Austria, Austria, overlooking the Danube. Burg Greifenstein is 227 metres (745 ft) above sea level. Approximately opposite to Burg Greifenstein is Burg Kreuzenstein, on the north shore of the Danube.

The Hermannskogel (German pronunciation: [ˈhɛʁmansˌkoːɡl̩] ) is a hill in Döbling, the 19th district of Vienna. At 542 metres above sea level, it is the highest natural point of Vienna. It lies on the border to Lower Austria. The Habsburgwarte, standing atop the Hermannskogel, marked the kilometre zero in cartographic measurements used in Austria-Hungary until 1918.

The Habsburgwarte is a 27 metre-tall tower that stands on Hermannskogel hill in Vienna. It was built by architect Franz von Neumann to resemble a medieval tower. The construction of the Habsburgwarte was funded by the Österreichische Touristenklub (Austrian Tourist Club) to mark the Emperor Franz Joseph I’s 40th jubilee in 1888. It was completed in 1889. In 1972, the tower was listed. Today, it is used as a lookout. On weekends in summer, the Austrian Tourist Club opens the tower to members of the public for an entrance fee. In 1892, the Militärgeographisches Institut (Army Geographic Institute) of Austria-Hungary specified the Habsburgwarte as kilometre zero. A plaque on the viewing platform records this fact. The Habsburgwarte was damaged during World War II. The Energieversorgung Niederösterreich (a provider of electricity, gas and heating in Lower Austria) assisted in the restoration of the tower, in return for which it may make use of the Habsburgwarte as a radio tower.

Exelberg Telecommunication Tower is a 358-foot (109 m) tall tower built of reinforced concrete on Exel Mountain near Vienna, Austria. Exelberg Telecommunication Tower is used for directional radio services.

Klosterneuburg (German pronunciation: [kloːstɐˈnɔɪ̯bʊʁk] ), frequently abbreviated to Kloburg by locals, is a town in the Tulln District of the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It has a population of about 27,500. The Stift Klosterneuburg (Klosterneuburg Monastery), which was established in 1114 and soon after given to the Augustinians, is of particular historical importance.

Bezirk Wien-Umgebung was a district of the state of Lower Austria in Austria. The district comprised four non-contiguous districts on the outer fringes of Vienna: Klosterneuburg and Gerasdorf to the north of the city, Schwechat to its south-east and Purkersdorf on Vienna's western side. Vienna International Airport, the headquarters of Austrian Airlines, and the headquarters of Niki are in the city of Schwechat, in the district.The district existed from 1954 to 2016. In 2017 the municipalities became part of four adjacent districts.

The Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research (KLI) is an international center for advanced studies in the life and sustainability sciences. It is a "Home to Theory that Matters" that supports the articulation, analysis, and integration of theories in biology and the sustainability sciences, exploring their wider scientific, cultural, and social significance. The institute is located in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna, Austria. Until 2013, the institute was located in the family mansion of the Nobel Laureate Konrad Lorenz in Altenberg. Lorenz' work laid the foundation for an evolutionary approach to mind and cognition. The institute unites fellows, visiting scholars, students, and external faculty. Through a lecture and seminar series, the KLI also offers a platform for the critical public discussion of current themes in the biosciences. Founded in 1990 by Rupert Riedl, followed by Gerd B. Müller as president of the institute, the KLI is funded by a private trust and receives additional support from the Province of Lower Austria. The institute has close ties with many of the higher education institutions in Vienna and Lower Austria, as well as with a number of international institutions with similar aims.
