Lac la Retenue

The rivière la Retenue (English: Retained River) is a tributary of the east bank of the Ferrée river. It flows in the municipalities of Château-Richer and L'Ange-Gardien, in the La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of Capitale-Nationale, in the province of Quebec, in Canada. The lower part of this valley is served by roads around Lac la Retenue. The intermediate part which follows the foot of the big mountain, is served by a forest road for the needs of forestry and the maintenance of high-voltage lines of Hydro-Quebec. The upper part, which is difficult to access because of the mountainous terrain, is served by a forest road from the north. Forestry is the main economic activity in this valley; second, recreational tourism. The surface of the Retained River is generally frozen from the beginning of December until the end of March; however, safe traffic on the ice is generally from mid-December to mid-March. The upper part of the river is subject to a frost period of about a week more due to the altitude. The water level of the river varies with the seasons and the precipitation; the spring flood occurs in March or April.

The Bras Nord-Ouest (English: North-West Branch) is a tributary of the north shore of lac la Retenue, on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. It flows in the municipality of L'Ange-Gardien, in the regional county municipality (MRC) of La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of Capitale-Nationale, in the province of Quebec, in Canada. The lower part of this valley (north of Lac la Retenue) is served by de la Vallée, des Montagnes and de la Rivière streets. The surface of the Northwest Arm is generally frozen from the beginning of December until the end of March; however, safe traffic on the ice is generally from mid-December to mid-March. The water level of the river varies with the seasons and the precipitation; the spring flood occurs in March or April.

The lower part of this valley is served by avenue Sainte-Brigitte and by rue Auclair. The upper part is served by a secondary forest road. Forestry is the main economic activity in this valley; recreational tourism, second. Because of its altitude, the surface of the Richelieu River is generally frozen from the beginning of December until the end of March; however, safe circulation on the ice is generally done from mid-December to mid-March. Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval is a city in La Jacques-Cartier Regional County Municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. Its urban area is located in the hollow of the Montmorency River valley, northeast of Quebec City. The city is named in honor of Brigid of Kildare as a recall the irish origin of the first settlers. The name Laval comes from the situation of Sainte-Brigitte in the seigneury of Beaupré, whose first owner was François de Laval, bishop of Quebec.

L'Ange-Gardien is a municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. It is part of La Côte-de-Beaupré Regional County Municipality. L'Ange-Gardien changed status from parish municipality to ordinary municipality on May 17, 2007.

Moulin du Petit-Pré, also known as Moulin de Monseigneur-de-Laval, is a water-powered flour mill in Château-Richer, Quebec, Canada on the north shore of the St. Lawrence river about 20 kilometres northeast of the City of Québec. It is the oldest commercial flour mill in North America. The mill was built for the Seminary of Quebec under the auspices of Bishop François de Laval. Construction began in 1691 and was completed by 1695. At various times in its 325-year history, the mill has been used to grind wheat, mill lumber, and cord wool. It was damaged or destroyed by fire three times. The mill currently serves as a cultural and historical landmark in Quebec.

The Royal-Quebec Golf Club (French: Club de Golf Royal Québec) is a golf course founded in 1874 in Boischatel by members of the local business community, mainly Scots-Quebecers bankers and businessmen. Located approximately 12 miles (18 km) east of Quebec City near Montmorency Falls, it has been a semi-private club since 1925. One of the oldest golf clubs in North America, the current 36-hole facility is located on a 186 hectare piece of land with pine trees that have been growing since the club was founded. The club house, by the 18th green of the "Quebec" course, overlooks l'Île d'Orléans and Quebec City.

Boischatel is a municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. The town was originally called Saint-Jean-de-Boischatel. The town itself is located along the Montmorency River. Near the boundary with Beauport are the Montmorency Falls, where 35,000 litres of water per second fall from a height one-and-a-half times greater than that of Niagara Falls.

The lower part of this small valley is served by Avenue Royale and the route 138 which runs along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. The upper part is accessible by the Lucien-Lefrançois road. Forestry, in particular the exploitation of sugar factories, constitutes the main economic activity in this valley; agriculture (lower part) second.
