Icaro 2000 is an Italian aircraft manufacturer, based in Sangiano. The company specializes in the design and manufacturer of hang gliders, ultralight trikes and hang gliding helmets.By the end of 2010, the company had sold over 9,000 hang gliders, including many used by world champions.

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 8,991 and an area of 25.9 square kilometres (10.0 sq mi). It sits at the foot of Sasso del Ferro.

Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso (Italian: Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso) is a Roman Catholic monastery located in the municipality of Leggiuno, in the Province of Varese and the region of Lombardy, Italy. It is perched on a rocky ridge on the eastern shore 16m above Lake Maggiore. The monastery can be reached on foot by descending down a long winding stairway or by taking an elevator or by a number of ferry services or boats that dock at the pier. The construction of the monastery dates from the 14th century, although the more recent frescos are from the 19th century. It consists of three buildings: the southern convent, the convent and the main church. In 1914 it was declared a national monument. You get the best view of Santa Caterina from the ferry boat on the Lago Maggiore, and the first thing you see is that the monastery consists of three chapels.

It serves the town of Laveno-Mombello, and is joined by a junction track to the Laveno-Mombello Lago railway station, managed by Ferrovienord. The Boesio is a river (intermittent stream) in Valcuvia, a valley in the north of the province of Varese, Lombardy, Italy. It rises near Cuveglio and flowing in an east–west direction before entering Lake Maggiore at Laveno-Mombello. The river's course takes it through the communes of Cuveglio, Cuvio, Casalzuigno, Azzio, Brenta, Gemonio, Cittiglio and Laveno-Mombello. The state road SS 394 follows in part the course of the river. Fish found in the river include Salmonidae and Cyprinidae, in particular brown trout and vairone (Leuciscus souffia). The waters of the river are polluted.

Sasso del Ferro is a mountain of Lombardy, Italy. It has an elevation of 1,062 metres above sea level. At its base sits the town of Laveno-Mombello, from which the mountain is served by a funicular cable ride to the top. The top of the mountain has a hotel and restaurant popular with tourists, along with a launch board for hang gliders to descend the mountain.

Cittiglio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Varese in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) northwest of Milan and about 15 kilometres (9 mi) northwest of Varese. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 3,817 and an area of 11.5 square kilometres (4.4 sq mi). The town is known as the birthplace of Alfredo Binda, a world-class bicycle racer in the 1920s and 1930s. Cittiglio borders the following municipalities: Brenta, Caravate, Castelveccana, Gemonio, Laveno-Mombello. The elite women's professional road bicycle racing event Trofeo Alfredo Binda-Comune di Cittiglio is held annually here.
