The Charles Berryhill House (also known as Black's Gaslight Village) is a historic house located at 414 Brown Street in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Brown Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, and its boundaries were increased in 2004. At the time of the boundary increase it consisted of 246 resources, which included 201 contributing buildings, one contributing structure, and 44 non-contributing buildings. Brown and East Ronalds Streets are both part of the city's original plat when it was laid out as the capitol of the Iowa Territory. They are located on the north edge of the plat. Its significance is derived from the settlement patterns here, the development of a major transportation corridor, the neighborhood's affiliation with the University of Iowa and its growth around the turn of the 20th century, and the architectural styles and forms that are found here from the 1850s to the 1920s. Many of the city's Bohemian-immigrant population lived here. Businessmen and blue-collar workers lived side by side to each other, as did professors from the University of Iowa. The old Military Road was routed on Brown Street, and after it was paved with bricks in 1907, it became the preferred route for funeral processions to Oakland Cemetery. Most of the popular architectural styles from late 19th and into the 20th century are found here. The most popular house form is the American Four-Square. Other popular styles include Queen Anne, Italianate, and the Greek Revival. The houses are both one and two stories in height, and wood-frame construction is prominent with rubble stone foundations. Some exteriors are clad in brick. Four houses have been individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Charles Berryhill House (c. 1850–1865), Vogt House (1890), Bohumil Shimek House (c. 1890), and the Arthur Hillyer Ford House (1909).

The Bohumil Shimek House is a historic building located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. The two-story, frame, Folk Victorian structure was built sometime around 1890. Its significance is its association with Bohumil Shimek. Initially trained as a civil engineer, he is better known as a naturalist, conservationist, and botany professor at the University of Iowa. He lived here from 1899 until his death in 1937. These dates coincide with his professional career. Shimek contributions include establishing the state park system in Iowa, the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, the American School of Wild Life Protection, and the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. He published over 190 scholarly works, and is credited with the discovery of the origins of the Loess Hills.The house was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. In 1994 it was included as a contributing property in the Brown Street Historic District.

The Arthur Hillyer Ford House is a historic building located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. Ford was a Chicago native who worked as an electrical engineer before becoming a college professor. He eventually became professor of electrical engineering at the University of Iowa, and is credited with inventing glare-less automobile headlights. He hired local architect Orville H. Carpenter to design his Mission Revival house. It features a symmetrical composition, wall dormers with scalloped parapets, a quatrefoil window, stuccoed walls, red clay tile roof with wide overhanging eaves, and a full-length front porch with square piers and flattened arches. The American Craftsman influence is found on the interior, especially in the fireplace inglenook. The house was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. In 1994 it was included as a contributing property in the Brown Street Historic District.

The Czecho Slovakian Association Hall, also known as Preucil School of Music, is a building in Iowa City, Iowa that was built in 1900, as a community center and meeting place for the Czechoslovakian Protective Society (C.S.P.S.), which later became the Czecho Slovakian Association. The C.S.P.S., like other fraternal organizations, began by offering a kind of insurance. The local chapter was organized in Iowa City in 1882. It served the Czech community that was concentrated in the north and northeast areas of the city. Like other C.S.P.S. halls, it hosted social, cultural, and educational activities, and this one also hosted gymnastics.: 3 The building is a 72 feet (22 m) by 42 feet (13 m) two-story red brick building with a hipped roof. An assembly room, with a high vaulted ceiling and tall arched windows, occupies the second floor. As of 1975, the room had a stage on one end and a balcony on the other, and was being renovated to serve as a concert hall.: 2 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The Gilbert-Linn Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. At the time of its nomination it consisted of 120 resources, which included 94 contributing buildings and 26 non-contributing buildings. This section of the city was developed as the population increased in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The growth was due, in part, to the expansion of the University of Iowa and its hospitals. There was also an expansion of the central business district at the same time. Both professionals and business owners built houses here. The district contains houses for the upper class and the middle class, side by side to each other. It was also the place where German and Bohemian immigrant families resided. The architectural styles and vernacular house forms found here are representative of those built in the city from the 1860s through the 1930s. The Queen Anne and Greek Revival styles are particularly evident. Local architect Orville H. Carpenter designed at least eight houses in the district. The Emma J. Harvat and Mary E. Stach House (1918) was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The F. X. Rittenmeyer House is a historic building located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. Built in the mid-1870s, this two-story brick house is a typical residential building found in Iowa City from this era. While it lacks the elaborate window hoods and broad cornice typically found on these houses, it does include bracketed eaves. There is also a single story kitchen wing off the back of the house. Somewhat unique to this house is the front porch with its geometrically patterned frieze, which is thought to be a later addition. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Emma J. Harvat and Mary E. Stach House, also known as the De Saint Victor House, was the home of Emma J. Harvat, who was the first female mayor of Iowa City, Iowa and the first female leader of a U.S. city with a population greater than 10,000. Harvat was a successful businesswoman who had become financially independent and retired to Iowa City at the age of 43. After arriving there she became partner in another business venture with Mary (May) Stach, establishing Harvat and Stach to sell women's clothing. Harvat and Stach had the house on Davenport Street built for them in 1919. The house was designed by Iowa City architect Orville H. Carpenter, incorporating a variety of historical revival styles, dominated by Colonial Revival.

The Letovsky-Rohret House is a historic building located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. This simple two-story wood-frame structure largely embodies the Greek Revival style with its side gable roof, entablature window and door heads, boxed cornice and plain frieze, and its pedimented attic vents. The tall windows on the first floor and arched windows on the main door reflect elements of the Italianate style. Built in 1881, the house originally faced Van Buren Street, but it was turned to face Davenport Street in 1919 and placed on the eastern end of its lot so two more house could be built there.The house is associated with two immigrant families. Bonhumil Barta Letovsky, who had the house built, was born in present-day Czech Republic. His father helped found the first Czech language newspaper in the United States, Slovan Amerikansky, in Wisconsin. After they settled in Iowa City they established Iowa's first Czech newspaper, Slovan Americky. After the family relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa with its larger Czech community, the house was bought by Mary H. Rohret in 1891. Her husband Peter was a native of Bavaria and was known for his ax skills. While he worked most of his life as a farmer, Rohret is thought to have helped build the Old Capitol in Iowa City in his youth. He was also involved in local politics. The Rohrets lived here until their respective deaths in 1914 (Peter) and 1918 (Mary). The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Isaac A. Wetherby House is a historic building located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. This house was built in two parts. The original two story frame section was built in 1854 by Patrick Doyle, an Irish immigrant and teamster. A single story frame addition was built by portrait painter and photographer Isaac Augustus Wetherby in 1860. He had acquired the house from Doyle, who could no longer afford the taxes. Wetherby lived here until 1887 when he sought economic opportunities elsewhere, but probably visited from time to time until his death in 1904. His family continued to reside here until 1948. The house was originally located on Market Street and was moved to this location on Governor in 2008 when a developer threatened to tear it down. It is the only extant building associated with Isaac Wetherby. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The C. Esco and Avalon L. Obermann Center for Advanced Studies (OCAS) is an interdisciplinary research institute at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Jackson–Swisher House and Carriage House, also known as the Old Swisher Place, is a historic building located in Iowa City, Iowa, United States. Louis H. Jackson, who built the house, was a local attorney until he relocated to Denver, Colorado. Stephen A. Swisher, who lived here for 40 years, started an insurance agency and served as a curator and president of the State Historical Society of Iowa. Both were graduates of the University of Iowa. The house's primary significance is architectural, and it is said to have "more characteristics of the Gothic Revival than any other house in Iowa City." The steeply pitched cross gable roof is set off by bargeboards with quatrefoil and circular openings. The paired windows of various designs, the window bays, the dormer-like window above the main entrance, and the fluted chimneys lend a picturesque quality. The front porch features tracery ornamentation. The former carriage house, converted into a garage in 1946, is simpler in its ornamentation. It has paired windows on the second floor, and like the main house, there is a gentle flair at the eaves. The buildings were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
