Shorehaven is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Pawling in Dutchess County, New York, United States. It was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.Shorehaven is in southeastern Dutchess County, along the western edge of the town of Pawling. The CDP is bordered to the west by the town of Beekman. The community surrounds Whaley Lake, which drains north via Whaley Lake Stream to Fishkill Creek, a southwestward-flowing tributary of the Hudson River. New York State Route 292 runs through Shorehaven along the western side of Whaley Lake. The state highway leads north 2 miles (3 km) to NY 55 in West Pawling and southeast 6 miles (10 km) to Patterson.

Lake Carmel is a small manmade lake located in the Town of Kent, in Putnam County, New York. It takes its name from the nearby town of Carmel, and in turn gives it to the community of Lake Carmel surrounding it. The lake was created by developers in the early 20th century by damming the Middle Branch of the Croton River. It is one of the few sizeable bodies of water in the county not a part of the New York City water supply system, but its outfall goes straight into the system's Middle Branch Reservoir downstream in the town of Carmel. Due to increasing development around the lake, the city has helped the community improve its wastewater treatment.

Lake Carmel is a hamlet and census-designated place in the town of Kent in Putnam County, New York, United States. The home of over half of the town of Kent's population of 8,282, the hamlet is centered around Lake Carmel, a 1.6 mile long manmade lake in the southeastern corner of the township and just north of hamlet of Carmel within the town of Carmel. The lake and surrounding community was developed by the Smadbeck brothers, who excavated and dammed a swamp in the 1920s and sold lots through the now-defunct New York Daily Mirror. The hamlet is the seat of the volunteer Lake Carmel Fire Department; its fire district covers the eastern half of the township, and of the Kent town government.

Whaley Lake is located in the town of Pawling in southeastern Dutchess County in New York State, United States. It is the largest lake in Dutchess County. The lake is partially man-made as it is controlled by a dam at its northern end. The lake feeds into the Fishkill Creek which empties into the Hudson River at Beacon, New York. The lake is accessible via New York State Route 292, which runs along the south and west sides of the lake. The eastern shore of Whaley Lake is bordered by Metro-North Railroad's unused Beacon Line, and the Maybrook Trailway, which is a part of the Empire State Trail.

WDBY (105.5 FM, "The Wolf") is an American country music radio station licensed to Patterson, New York. The station serves the eastern Hudson Valley and Greater Danbury, Connecticut listening areas. The station is owned by Townsquare Media and broadcasts from a tower located in Patterson, New York near the Putnam/Dutchess county line. WDBY also operates a booster, WDBY-FM1 in Brookfield, Connecticut, which broadcasts with 1.2 kilowatts. Though it is the only FM station in Putnam County, WDBY's primary target market has historically been Danbury, Connecticut. Even though the hills in and around Danbury limits the main 105.5 signal, the Brookfield booster has the ability to cover the primary coverage area. WDBY also targets eastern Putnam County as well as southern Dutchess County, where it regularly rates in the Poughkeepsie market. Due to its tower height, WDBY's signal covers most of the Route 22/I-684 corridor. The WDBY studios and offices are located on Federal Road (U.S. Route 202) in Brookfield.

Mount Nimham is a 1,273-foot-tall (388 m) mountain in Hudson Highlands of New York. It is located northwest of Carmel in Putnam County. Nimham Mountain is named after Chief Daniel Nimham of the Wappinger tribe. In 1940, an 82-foot-6-inch-tall (25.15 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1988 fire lookout season and was officially closed the next year. The tower appears on the National Historic Lookout Register and is still open to the public.

Green Haven Correctional Facility is a maximum security prison in New York. The prison is located in the Town of Beekman in Dutchess County. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision lists the address as Route 216, Stormville, NY 12582. This prison housed New York's execution chamber during the time the state briefly had the death penalty (but never used it) in the post-Furman era. It was originally a federal prison and now houses maximum security inmates. Green Haven Correctional Facility also operated a Hot Kosher Foods Program; but no longer does as of 2020. However, because of this, the prison had a large Jewish population. Yale Law School operates the Green Haven Prison Project, a series of seminars among Yale law students and Green Haven inmates on law and policy issues concerning prisons and criminal law.
