Lake Carmel, New York

Lake Carmel is a small manmade lake located in the Town of Kent, in Putnam County, New York. It takes its name from the nearby town of Carmel, and in turn gives it to the community of Lake Carmel surrounding it. The lake was created by developers in the early 20th century by damming the Middle Branch of the Croton River. It is one of the few sizeable bodies of water in the county not a part of the New York City water supply system, but its outfall goes straight into the system's Middle Branch Reservoir downstream in the town of Carmel. Due to increasing development around the lake, the city has helped the community improve its wastewater treatment.

Kent is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The population was 12,900 at the 2020 census. The name is that of an early settler family. The town is in the north-central part of the Putnam County. Many of the lakes are reservoirs for New York City.

Carmel High School is a public high school in Carmel, New York, currently serving grades 9-12. It is the only high school in the Carmel Central School District. The district includes part of Carmel, and part or all of several nearby towns, mostly in Putnam County, New York but also includes a small number of students from Dutchess County. School athletic teams are known as the Rams, which were the NYSPHSAA football champions (due to success of student John "Bubbles" Collazo) in the 2021 season. The schools colors are red, blue and white. Known for the fame of some of their students such as Stranger Thing's Caleb McLaughlin and the guitar player of Excellent Porpoise, Dr. Evan Molé, Carmel High School has become the frontier of success in its more recent years.

Wonder Lake State Park is a 1,145-acre (4.6 km2) Putnam County state park located in Patterson, New York.

New York's historic Putnam County Courthouse is located on Gleneida Avenue (NY 52) across from the eastern terminus of NY 301 in downtown Carmel, the county seat, overlooking Lake Gleneida. First built in 1814, two years after the county itself was established, it is the second-oldest county courthouse still in use in the state after Fulton County's. In 1847 it was renovated extensively. At that time the Classical Revival portico and columns were added. Architect James Townsend used commercially available (although inexact) copies of the Corinthian capitals from the Monument of Lysicrates in Athens. For this and its historic importance in the county's history it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Carmel Hamlet, commonly known simply as Carmel, is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located in the Town of Carmel in Putnam County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,817.The hamlet is the site of the historic County Court House (built 1814), the David D. Bruen County Office Building, and other structures, and borders Lake Gleneida. Next to the lake stands a bronze statue commemorating Sybil Ludington.

Reed Memorial Library is located at the junction of US 6 and NY 52 in Carmel, New York, United States. It is the oldest library building in Putnam County, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It was built in 1914 by Arietta Crane Reed as a tribute to her late husband, William Belden Reed, an ardent supporter of the Literary Union of Carmel, which operates the library. It is a Tudorbethan-style building of local stone with marble accents, and much original period furnishing inside.

Lake Gleneida is a controlled lake in the hamlet of Carmel within the Town of Carmel in central Putnam County, New York. Originally a smaller natural water body, Shaw's Pond, it was dammed by New York City in 1870 and enlarged to 168 acres (68 ha) for inclusion in its water supply system. It is part of the New York City water system's Croton Watershed.

The Tilly Foster Farm Museum was a farm museum in Brewster, New York until December 2013. It was run by The Society for the Preservation of Putnam County until 2014 when the organization gave the management of the farm back to Putnam County Government, which owns the property.

Dykeman's was a station on the Harlem Line of the New York Central Railroad (now Metro-North Railroad). It was 55 miles from Grand Central Terminal.
