Jenkinson Lake is a lake located in El Dorado County, California near Pollock Pines, California named after Robert Jenkins the famous bull fighter. There are two main parts, the upper and lower lake. The lower lake is about eight times larger than the upper lake, which is to the northeast of its partner. The lower lake is more of a rounded body, while the upper is more narrow. In the upper eastern area of the upper lake lies a large inlet, which can be traced to a waterfall. The Sly Park Dam can be found to the southern part of the lake, and an auxiliary dam can be found to the southeast.

Sly Park Dam is located near Pollock Pines, California in the United States. The dam impounds Sly Park Creek and Hazel Creek, natural tributaries of the North Fork Cosumnes River, to form a 41,000 acre-foot (51,000 dam3), 650-acre (260 ha) reservoir called Jenkinson Lake. It was constructed as part of the American River Division of the Central Valley Project to provide irrigation water to a portion of El Dorado County, California. The dam was begun in May 1953, with clearing operations, and was completed in mid 1955. The earthfill Sly Park Dam is 190 feet (58 m) high, with a hydraulic height of 170 feet (52 m), and 760 feet (230 m) long. Its auxiliary dam is 130 feet (40 m) high and 600 feet (180 m) long. The spillway of Sly Park Dam is actually in the auxiliary dam: it is a concrete chute 170 feet (52 m) long and can carry 6,700 cubic feet (190 m3) per second, while the outlet works at the foot of the dam can carry 47 cubic feet (1.3 m3) per second. The drainage area of Sly Park Creek behind the dam is 47 square miles (120 km2). The Camino Conduit diverts water roughly 7.2 miles (11.6 km) west from the Jenkinson Reservoir for irrigation purposes. Water is also diverted from Camp Creek into Jenkinson Lake to increase the total water yield.

Grizzly Flats (formerly Grizzly Flat and Chickenmasee) is a census-designated place in El Dorado County, California. It is located southeast of Camino, at an elevation of 3868 feet (1179 m). Grizzly Flats is the town nearest to Baltic Peak, a small peak to the northwest. The population at the 2010 census was 1,066.

A post office operated in Pacific from 1880 to 1893 and from 1894 to 1958, when it was transferred to the nearby community of Pacific House.A tornado struck Pacific on October 1, 1972, amid storms that also produced hail that accumulated 3 in (7.6 cm).

The community is inside area code 530. Fresh Pond was a lumbering community in the 1800s, with a sawmill and a stop on the Pony Express route. The Fresh Pond Cafeteria, at the site of the old town, burned down in the 1970s, but its iconic wooden sign was preserved by later businesses. The site is now the Fresh Pond Trading Post, a gas station and store.Since Fresh Pond is high enough in elevation to receive snow in the winter, it is also a popular site for sledding and other snow activities.

Sly Park (formerly, Park) is an unincorporated community in El Dorado County, California. It is located in Sly Valley 13 miles (21 km) east of Placerville, at an elevation of 3560 feet (1085 m).A post office operated at Sly Park from 1891 to 1919, with several moves. The name honors James Sly, one of the Mormons who discovered Sly Valley.

El Dorado County ( ), officially the County of El Dorado, is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 191,185. The county seat is Placerville. The county is part of the Sacramento-Roseville-Arden-Arcade, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located entirely in the Sierra Nevada, from the historic Gold Country in the western foothills to the High Sierra in the east. El Dorado County's population has grown as Greater Sacramento has expanded into the region. Where the county line crosses US 50 at Clarksville, the distance to Sacramento is 15 miles. Pollock Pines is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Dorado County, California, United States. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pollock Pines lies at an elevation of 3,980 feet (1,210 m) in the Sierra Nevada. The population was 6,871 at the 2010 census, up from 4,728 at the 2000 census.

The Caldor Fire was a large wildfire that burned 221,835 acres (89,773 hectares) in the Eldorado National Forest and other areas of the Sierra Nevada in El Dorado, Amador, and Alpine County, California, in the United States during the 2021 California wildfire season. The fire was first reported on Saturday, August 14, 2021, and was fully contained on Thursday, October 21, 2021. The Caldor Fire destroyed 1,005 structures and damaged 81 more, primarily in the US Highway 50 corridor and in the community of Grizzly Flats, 2/3 of which was destroyed by the fire. On August 30, it became the second fire known to cross the Sierra Nevada mountain range, following the Dixie Fire, which crossed a few days earlier on August 18. It then threatened the communities of Meyers and South Lake Tahoe, causing evacuations to be ordered for more than 20,000 people before the fire's progress was halted. The Caldor Fire was the third-largest and second-most-destructive of the 2021 season in California, and is the seventeenth-largest and sixteenth-most destructive in recorded California history. The U.S. Forest Service determined that the fire was caused by a bullet. A father and son who had called 911 to report the fire were accused of starting it by reckless use of firearms. In January 2024, a judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence to try them.

The King Fire was a wildfire that scorched over 97,000 acres (390 km2) of land in El Dorado County, California in the fall of 2014. The fire, which was named because it started off King of the Mountain Road in Pollock Pines, started on September 13, 2014 near Pollock Pines, California, to the east of Sacramento.

Omo Ranch is an unincorporated community in El Dorado County, California. It is located 12.5 miles (20 km) south-southeast of Camino, at an elevation of 3612 feet (1101 m). Omo Ranch was once a logging town with a sawmill; the mill closed in 1973. Today, Omo Ranch is a rural residential area with few county services. Its population in 1986 was estimated at 150. A post office operated at Omo Ranch from 1888 to 1974. The name Omo comes from a Native American village.
