One Post Street is a 38-story, 529 ft (161 m) office skyscraper located at 1 Post Street and Market Street in the Financial District of San Francisco, California, United States. The building is owned by Brookfield Properties. It served as headquarters for the McKesson Corporation until April 2019.Designed by architect Welton Becket, the building exemplified his penchant for repetitive geometric patterns and walls clad in natural stone. Landscape architect SWA Group's design for the busy triangular/flatiron site created an octagonal, two-tiered opening leading to a Bay Area Rapid Transit station, and flanked by trees, shops and a series of granite steps used for seating.In the soap opera The Young and the Restless, the building is featured as "Lakeview Towers", where numerous characters — beginning in 2012 with Victor Newman — have lived in either of two adjoining penthouse apartments. Its exterior can be seen (with identifying signage blurred out) in establishing shots for scenes set there, with One Montgomery Tower visible in the background. Since 2016, Devon Hamilton has lived in Penthouse 2. Neil Winters bought Penthouse 1 (then named "Penthouse A") in 2018 from the estate of Victor's son Adam Newman, who was incorrectly presumed dead. It commemorates California Admission Day (September 9, 1850), the date on which the state became part of the Union, following the Mexican-American war of 1848.Other names for the sculpture include Admission Day, the Admission Day Fountain, the California Admissions Day Monument, Native Son Monument, Native Sons' Monument, Native Sons Monument, and Phelan Fountain.

The Mechanics' Institute is a historic membership library, cultural event center, and chess club at 57 Post Street, San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1854, as a mechanics' institute, an educational and cultural institution, to serve the vocational needs of out-of-work gold miners. The institute today serves readers, writers, downtown employees, students, film lovers, chess players, and others.

Montgomery Street station (often Montgomery station) is a combined BART and Muni Metro rapid transit station in the Market Street subway. Located under Market Street between Montgomery Street and Sansome Street, it serves the Financial District neighborhood and surrounding areas. The three-level station has a large fare mezzanine level, with separate platform levels for Muni Metro and BART below. With over 42,000 boardings per weekday in 2019, Montgomery Street and Embarcadero station to the north are the two busiest stations in the BART system.

The Monadnock Building (San Francisco) is an historic 10-story, 204,625 square foot office building in downtown San Francisco, California located at 685 Market St. The building was designed by the firm of Frederick H. Meyer and Smith, and completed in 1907, immediately following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The building stands immediately adjacent to both the BART Montgomery Street Station and the Palace Hotel, and across Market Street from Lotta's Fountain. The Monadnock Building is an example of the turn-of-the-century “Beaux Arts” style. The building was extensively renovated in 1986 and again in 2016. Macys.com is a major tenant and UBER became a major tenant in 2014.

The Hobart Building is an office high rise located at 582–592 Market Street, near Montgomery and 2nd Streets, in the financial district of San Francisco, California. It was completed in 1914 after only eleven months, which led to accusations that it had been constructed with a degree of recklessness. It was at the time the second tallest building in the city, at 21 floors and 87 m (285 ft). It was designed by Willis Polk. The building was constructed for the Hobart Estate Company on the site of the company's previous offices. The location was reportedly chosen by founder Walter S. Hobart in the 1880s for its prominent location at the head of 2nd Street, originally one of the city's major streets leading to the fashionable Rincon Hill neighborhood. Said to be the favorite commercial building of its designer, Willis Polk, its sculpted terra cotta exterior with Baroque ornamentation and handcrafted brass and Italian marble interior are a noted example of neoclassical architecture.Its unusual shape was dictated by the site, which is an asymmetric polygon, and since a neighboring structure was torn down in 1967, exposing one flank, it is now even more idiosyncratic and striking. The Hobart Building was designated as a landmark by the City of San Francisco in 1983, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

The Mechanics' Institute Chess Club is a chess club in San Francisco, California, United States. Hosted at the Mechanics' Institute, it is the oldest-continuously operating chess club in the United States.

The Montgomery is a residential highrise located at 74 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco, California. The building was designed by the Reid Brothers architects in 1914 and served as headquarters and the offices of the newspaper The San Francisco Call after its building, The Call Building, was damaged in the great fire. The site was selected for its central location, which quickly became a regional media hub during that time period. From 1914 to 1950 The Montgomery was home to The San Francisco Call and at times the offices of rival publications as well. From 1950 until 2005 the building continued to be utilized as premium commercial office space. In 2005, a team of developers took over the project, close to the Civic Center, the Financial District and Union Square, and converted it into a luxury residential building. Today there are 107 new residences at 74 New Montgomery. The new developers installed new electrical wiring (including CAT 5), new windows designed to preserve the classic aesthetics, and a seismic retrofit to the foundation.

The Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences is a 312-foot (95 m) luxury residential skyscraper in the Financial District of San Francisco, California. The residences are built atop the historic Old Chronicle Building, sometimes called the de Young Building, which was constructed in 1890. It is the first skyscraper built in California.

The Palace Hotel Residential Tower was a residential skyscraper proposed in 2006, which was to have been built at the corner of Jessie & Annie Streets in the South of Market district of San Francisco, California. At 204 m (669 ft) and 60 stories, it would have been the tallest residential building in the city, and the tallest South of Market. Had it been constructed, prior to the Financial crisis of 2007–2008, the tower would have replaced an annex of the Palace Hotel. The project would have been limited by zoning laws released by the San Francisco Planning Department on May 1, 2008, permitting a maximum height of 400 ft (120 m). However, in 2012, the height limit was raised to 600 feet (180 m) as part of the broader Transit Center District Plan that raised building heights in the area.

44 Montgomery is a 43-story, 172 m (564 ft) office skyscraper in the heart of San Francisco's Financial District. Groundbreaking was in the spring of 1964. When completed in 1967, it was the tallest building west of Dallas, surpassed by 555 California Street (built as the world headquarters of Bank of America) in 1969. The building was designed, built and dedicated for Wells Fargo Bank, and their IT subsidiary was based there at one time (the bank's headquarters are at 464 California Street).44 Montgomery, as part of the original design anticipating the then-under-construction Bay Area Rapid Transit subway system, contains direct underground access to the Montgomery Street Station.

Newspaper Row in San Francisco referred to the five-point intersection of Market Street, Kearny Street, Third Street and Geary Street, where three of San Francisco's largest daily newspapers were headquartered, across the street from each other. By 1902, The San Francisco Call, The San Francisco Examiner and the San Francisco Chronicle were in buildings on corners, with the Chronicle in the Chronicle Building, the Call in the Spreckels Building and the Examiner in the Examiner building. The intersection became known as the "Times Square of the West".
