Merryton Low is a hill in Staffordshire, England, a few miles east of Leek. It is in the civil parish of Fawfieldhead in the local government district of Staffordshire Moorlands. The hill is 489m / 1604 ft ASL and forms part of the White Peak and is within the Peak District National ParkThe parent peak is Shining Tor and it ranks as the 6366th highest peak in the British Isles and the 729th tallest in EnglandThere are two bowl barrows on the hill: Merryton Low bowl barrow, a scheduled monument is at the summit, and another scheduled barrow lies 700m to the south.The summit trig point is grade II listed as it carries a plaque commemorating four members of the local Home Guard who died on active service in the regular army during World War II. The hill was the site of two fatal air crashes during World War II: a Short Stirling crashed on 13 July 1942 with eight deaths, and a Hawker Hurricane on 27 July 1944 with one death.The River Hamps rises on its southern slopes.

The River Hamps is a river in Staffordshire, England. It is tributary of the River Manifold, which itself flows into the River Dove near Ilam. For much of its length the river flows through the Peak District National Park.

Heathylee is a civil parish in the district of Staffordshire Moorlands in north-east Staffordshire, England. There is no village centre. The parish has a boundary with Leekfrith in the west and with Hollinsclough in the north; there is a short eastern boundary, at the River Manifold, with Sheen, and to the south are the parishes of Bradnop, Onecote and Longnor. Morridge separates the area into a western part, drained by the River Churnet, and a larger eastern part drained by the Manifold and its tributary Oakenclough Brook. The hamlet of Upper Hulme is in the south-west.

Black Brook is a nature reserve of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, about 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Leek, in Staffordshire, England. It is moorland, part of the Leek Moors Site of Special Scientific Interest, and most of it is in a Special Area of Conservation. It is near to the Roaches, another nature reserve of the Trust.

Thorncliffe is a small village in Staffordshire, England, straddling the Staffordshire Moorlands and Peak District National Park. By 1600 the name Thorncliffe had replaced the settlement's earlier name, Thorntileg, meaning "clearing in thorn trees". The nearest towns to the village are Leek (2 miles), Buxton (10 miles) and Macclesfield (14 miles). The village of Thorncliffe has only one pub, the Red Lion Inn, which dates from 1787, when it was called the Reform Inn. The village also has a small Methodist chapel and is the site of Citizen Weather Observer Program station 03330.Thorncliffe is close to a number of popular tourist attractions. The Roaches, Tittesworth reservoir, Thor’s Cave and Alton Towers are all within a few miles. The cities of Manchester, Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham are within an hour's commute of the village.

Upper Hulme is a hamlet situated in North Staffordshire, between the historical market town of Leek and the spa town of Buxton. It is clustered around a redundant mill and is located within the upper reaches of the River Churnet. The Mill was recently restored, complete with a working water wheel, but no further information on its future is known. It can be accessed by one of the many footpaths through the hamlet. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs through the village.The hamlet is at the edge of the Peak District and is home to The Roaches and is therefore very popular with ramblers, climbers and hikers alike. The A53 road offers access to Tittesworth reservoir in the south and Ramshaw Rocks in the North, making the hamlet a popular base for walking holidays. There is a camp site, bunkhouse accommodation and holiday cottages available. The hamlet is popular with wildlife enthusiasts due to Wallaby having been sighted on the Roaches, and the successful annual breeding of peregrine falcons. In Peregrine breeding season, a 'bird watching post' is set up at the foot of Hen Cloud and park rangers are on hand to offer advice and information on the bird. At this time of year, some access is restricted. The hamlet has two local pubs; Ye Olde Rock Inn and The Winking Man. It is also home to a popular Tea Rooms. The main industry of the hamlet is agricultural. Upon entrance to the hamlet there is an old Dye Works, which has now been transformed into offices and workshops. Until 2005 the area was used by the British Army as a training area. That space has now been vacated by the Ministry of Defence and is currently for sale.

Elkstones is a small hamlet in the parish of Warslow and Elkstones, consisting of Upper Elkstone and Lower Elkstone. Situated high in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Leek is the closest town. Elkstones falls in the catchment area of Manifold Primary School, Churnet View Middle School and Leek High School.

Warslow and Elkstones is a civil parish in the district of Staffordshire Moorlands in north-east Staffordshire, England. It includes the village of Warslow and the hamlets of Lower Elkstone and Uppoer Elkstone. There is a boundary with Wetton in the east at the River Manifold. To the south is Butterton; the River Hamps forms the western boundary with Onecote.

Hollinsclough is a small rural village in the county of Staffordshire in the English Midlands. It is within the Peak District National Park.

Butterton is a small village in the Staffordshire Peak District of England (grid reference SK075565). It overlooks the Manifold Valley and Ecton Hill, which rises 1,212 feet above sea level. Butterton lies 5 miles east of Leek and roughly 8 miles from Alton Towers theme park. The village is just west of the limestone area, and so is mainly built of local sandstone. It contains a Grade II listed church. In the centre of Butterton there is an unusual ford where the Hoo Brook runs along the village street.Butterton was served by a railway station which was opened by the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway on 27 June 1904. The line closed in 1934, and the route of the railway past the station is now designated the Manifold Way, a footpath and cycle route. Butterton is one of the Thankful Villages that suffered no fatalities in the Great War of 1914–1918.
