Leek Moors

Heathylee is a civil parish in the district of Staffordshire Moorlands in north-east Staffordshire, England. There is no village centre. The parish has a boundary with Leekfrith in the west and with Hollinsclough in the north; there is a short eastern boundary, at the River Manifold, with Sheen, and to the south are the parishes of Bradnop, Onecote and Longnor. Morridge separates the area into a western part, drained by the River Churnet, and a larger eastern part drained by the Manifold and its tributary Oakenclough Brook. The hamlet of Upper Hulme is in the south-west.

Black Brook is a nature reserve of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, about 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Leek, in Staffordshire, England. It is moorland, part of the Leek Moors Site of Special Scientific Interest, and most of it is in a Special Area of Conservation. It is near to the Roaches, another nature reserve of the Trust.

Flash is a village in the Staffordshire Moorlands, England, and Peak District National Park. At 1,519 feet (463 m) above sea level, it is the highest village in the United Kingdom and was an early centre for Wesleyanism.

Quarnford is a village and civil parish in the Staffordshire Moorlands district of Staffordshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 244, reducing marginally to 242 at the 2011 census. The village is in the Peak District, between Buxton and Leek. The village (as opposed to the parish) is known by the name "Flash" and is the highest village in Britain, being some 1518 ft above sea level. The local church of St. Paul's was built starting in 1743, its graveyard contains graves dating back to at least 1791. Although the village historically was almost an outpost due to its relative isolation and small economic significance, it is situated in some of the most picturesque and unspoilt areas of the English countryside.

Oliver Hill is a hill, 513 metres (1,683 ft) high, in the Peak District in the county of Staffordshire in England. It is a treeless summit surrounded by farmland in the southern part of the Peak District about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) south-southwest of the town of Buxton. The summit has a tiny cairn near some aerials.

Three Shire Heads (also known as Three Shires Head) is the point on Axe Edge Moor where Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire meet, at UK grid reference SK009685, or 53.213°N 1.987°W / 53.213; -1.987. It is on the River Dane, which marks the Cheshire border in this area. On the east of the river, the border between Staffordshire and Derbyshire runs north-east for about a mile to Cheeks Hill, on the higher regions of Axe Edge Moor. From Cheeks Hill the border runs south then east to the head of the River Dove.The main landmark is a packhorse bridge. The bridge is Grade II-listed, and was probably constructed in the late 18th century.

Cheeks Hill is a hill on Axe Edge Moor in the Peak District, England. It lies just south of the Cat and Fiddle Road near Buxton, and forms part of the border between Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The highest and most northerly point in Staffordshire, at 520 metres (1,710 ft) above sea level, is just south-west of its summit.

The Roaches (from the French les roches - the rocks) is a prominent rocky ridge above Leek and Tittesworth Reservoir in the Staffordshire Peak District of England. The ridge with its rock formations rises steeply to 505 m (1,657 ft).Along with Ramshaw Rocks and Hen Cloud, from Old English Henge Clud, meaning "steep rock", they form a gritstone escarpment, which is popular with hikers, rock climbers and freerunners. It is often very busy especially at weekends. The Roaches Estate was purchased by the Peak District National Park Authority in the 1980s to safeguard the area from adverse development. From May 2013 Staffordshire Wildlife Trust took on the management of the Roaches Estate. In clear conditions, it is possible to see much of Cheshire and views stretching as far as Snowdon in Wales and Winter Hill in Lancashire. The Roaches are the most prominent part of a curving ridge which extends for several miles from Hen Cloud in the south to Back Forest and Hangingstone in the northwest. At the top there is a small pool called Doxey Pool that is, according to legend, inhabited by a water spirit. Nearby are the broad hills of Gun and Morridge.

Blakemere Pond, also known as Black Mere Pool or Mermaid's Pond, is a small, natural lake in Staffordshire, England, six miles north-west of Leek. The pond is the subject of an enduring legend that claims that the water is haunted by the ghost of a mermaid.

Axe Edge Moor is the major moorland southwest of Buxton in the Peak District, England. It is mainly gritstone (Namurian shale and sandstone). Its highest point (551 metres (1,808 ft)) is at grid reference SK035706. This is slightly lower than Shining Tor (which is some 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to the northwest, across the modest dip of the incipient Goyt Valley). The moor is the source of the River Dove, River Manifold, River Dane, River Wye and River Goyt. It boasted England's second-highest public house (the Cat and Fiddle Inn), which closed in 2015 before reopening as a distillery. The moor is shared between the counties of Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire, which meet on its southwestern flank at Three Shire Heads on the Dane. The Axe Edge itself is on the southeastern edge, near the source of the Dove.

Merryton Low is a hill in Staffordshire, England, a few miles east of Leek. It is in the civil parish of Fawfieldhead in the local government district of Staffordshire Moorlands. The hill is 489m / 1604 ft ASL and forms part of the White Peak and is within the Peak District National ParkThe parent peak is Shining Tor and it ranks as the 6366th highest peak in the British Isles and the 729th tallest in EnglandThere are two bowl barrows on the hill: Merryton Low bowl barrow, a scheduled monument is at the summit, and another scheduled barrow lies 700m to the south.The summit trig point is grade II listed as it carries a plaque commemorating four members of the local Home Guard who died on active service in the regular army during World War II. The hill was the site of two fatal air crashes during World War II: a Short Stirling crashed on 13 July 1942 with eight deaths, and a Hawker Hurricane on 27 July 1944 with one death.The River Hamps rises on its southern slopes.

Hollins Hill is a gritstone hill in the Derbyshire Peak District near the village of Hollinsclough. The summit is 450 metres (1,480 ft) above sea level. The hill is the source of Swallow Brook, which flows into the River Dove running along the south side of the hill.The Bronze Age burial mound at the summit is a protected Scheduled Monument. Hollins Hill barrow features a bowl-shaped pit within a round cairn about 13 metres (43 ft) wide. It was excavated by Thomas Bateman in 1851 and subsequently by Micah Salt in 1894. Their finds included human bones, burnt from cremation, in a grave cut into the rock.The east side of the hill is designated as 'Open Access' land, following the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.Hollins Hill is one of the 95 Ethels hills of the Peak District, launched by the countryside charity CPRE in 2021.
