Wheeler End

Piddington and Wheeler End is a small civil parish within Wycombe District Council, Buckinghamshire, England. Within the parish are the main hamlets of Piddington and Wheeler End. The total voting population of the parish is 630.The parish council administers the common land in both villages including three popular allotment sites. It is also responsible for the war memorial at Wheeler End. The parish council together with the village hall publish a quarterly newsletter which goes out to the entire parish.

Piddington is a hamlet in the parish of Piddington and Wheeler End in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located on the main A40 between Stokenchurch and West Wycombe. Piddington originally comprised a number of scattered farmsteads, a workhouse and manor house. Surviving buildings of which date to the 16th and 17th centuries. The Dashwood Roadhouse pub was originally named “The Dashwood Arms” pub is located at the end of Old Oxford Road. At the turn of the century, a furniture factory was established and the hamlet grew under its influence. The factory is no more, but a small light industrial area now stands on its site, with places named as Algamated Tires & Exhausts business and West Wycombe Motors there. There are no shops in Piddington - the nearest being in West Wycombe or Lane End. However, there is a village hall (which hosts many regular events including the annual Piddington Horticultural Society Show) and is the local voting centre, a playing field is located at the bottom of the hamlet, on Princess Street.

Bolter End Sand Pit is a 0.33-hectare (0.82-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Bolter End in Buckinghamshire. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.The site is a disused sand pit. It is part of the Reading Beds, and dates to 53 million years ago. It has an unusual pebble content for Reading Beds, and is important for palaeogeographical reconstructions as it appears to represent a riverine sequence with sources from Lower Cretaceous and Upper Jurassic sequences.The site is on private land with no public access.

Lane End is a village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, England. It is just south of the M40 from High Wycombe, about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Booker. The village is twinned with Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron in France. The village is situated in the Chilterns, around 650 feet (200 m) above sea level, in rolling hills of farmland, beech woods and footpaths. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Cadmore End, Ditchfield, Moor Common and Moor End, and had a population of 3,583 at the 2001 Census.

Bolter End is a hamlet 5 mi (8.0 km) to the west of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, England. Bolter End lies on the B482 road that connects Stokenchurch and Marlow between Cadmore End and Lane End and where it is crossed by the Piddington to Fingest road. Bolter End is part of Lane End (Where the population was included) civil parish and is within Wycombe district. Bolter End Sand Pit is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Windsor Hill is a 61.8-hectare (153-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire. It lies within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it is featured in the Nature Conservation Review. A small part is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust, and access to this area requires a permit.

Widdenton Park Wood is a 23.5-hectare (58-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest west of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. It is on the site of a medieval deer park going back to the fourteenth century, and most of it is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The wood is ancient semi-natural oak-beech woodland, which supports a varied flora including several uncommon species. The most important feature is a number of extensive spring-fed mires, dominated by willow and birch. There are also areas of beech woodland and marshy grassland.The site is open to the public, and there is access by footpaths from Marlow Road.

Moorend Common is a 28-hectare (69-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in the hamlet Moor End, west of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire. It is in the Chilterns Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it is owned and managed by Lane End Parish Council.The site is on London Clay, which is unusual for the Chilterns, and the soil is acid and sometimes waterlogged. Habitats are grassland, heath, woodland, marsh and scrub. A stream ends in a swallow-hole called Gubbins Hole. There are three types of woodland, beech, oak and birch, and a small area planted with larch and pine, with ground flora of bracken and bramble. Marshy areas have heath spotted orchid and bog mosses.There is access from Church Road, which passes through the site.

Frieth Meadows is a 2.5-hectare (6.2-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Frieth in Buckinghamshire. It is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.The site consists of traditionally managed and unimproved meadows on neutral to acid soils. Plants include quaking grass, green-winged orchid, lousewort and devil's bit scabious. Hedgerows provide shelter for small mammals and birds, and both the grassland and hedges have a wide range of invertebrates.There is no public access to the site but it can be viewed from Shogmoor Lane.

Bottom Wood is a 14.5-hectare (36-acre) woodland in the English county of Buckinghamshire, located just north of the A40 near the hamlet of Studley Green. Since 1984, the wood has been owned by the Chiltern Society, which manages it as a nature reserve with the help of volunteers. Although an ancient woodland, most of the trees in the wood date from the end of the 1940s or later, as much of the wood was felled during the Second World War to produce Bryant and May matches. The wood is now home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare species of butterfly and moth.

Ackhampstead (literally 'oak homestead' in Old English) or 'The Moor' was an ancient township (or chapelry) in the Chiltern Hills, south of Lane End. Until 1844 it was a detached part of Oxfordshire in the parish of Lewknor, part of a division of the parish known as Lewknor Uphill consisting of three detached parts. It was transferred to Buckinghamshire by the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844. By the mid-nineteenth century the population of the community was negligible. The Bishop of Oxford demolished its medieval chapel and replaced it with a new church at Cadmore End. In 1885 the division of Lewknor Uphill was dismembered. Ackhampstead was transferred to the parish of Great Marlow for ecclesiastical purposes, and became part of the civil parish of Great Marlow in 1895.In 1934 the western end, including Moor Farm, became part of the civil parish of Fingest, renamed Fingest and Lane End in 1937, and is now in Lane End parish. The greater part, including the site of the chapel and Moor Wood, remains in Great Marlow parish. A detailed history of Ackhampstead was compiled by Dr Gordon Wyatt in 1969 for the Frieth Village Society.

Frieth is a village in the parish of Hambleden, in Buckinghamshire, England. It lies on the top of "Frieth Hill", which is part of the chalk escarpments of the Chiltern Hills. Frieth lies at a height of around 550 feet (170 m), on the edge of a broad and deep winterbourne chalk valley in which are located the older settlements of the parish and adjacent parishes – Hambleden, Skirmett, Turville, and Fingest. Because of the shortage of surface water and the relatively poor soils – heavy clay and flint overlaying the permeable chalk – Frieth did not develop into a village until well into Victorian times. However, there are a number of ancient properties and Frieth has all the symbols of a traditional English village. As well as the church, it has a village hall, a village green, two rural pubs, a village society, fine open hilly countryside, and a small but thriving primary school. The village shop and dairy has closed.
