Dortmund-Brackel is a railway station in the Dortmund district of Brackel in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. It was opened on 15 May 1976 on the Welver–Sterkrade railway completed between Welver and the old Dortmund Süd (south) station by the Royal Westphalian Railway Company on the same date and electrified on 25 May 1984. A station building was built in 1895, but it was demolished in 1985.It is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 4 at 30-minute intervals (15-minute intervals in the peak between Dortmund-Lütgendortmund and Unna-Königsborn).The station is also served by two bus routes, 420 (Scharnhorst – Derne + Aplerbeck, every 20 minutes) and 422 (Aplerbeck – Schüren + Wambel – Körne, every 30 minutes) operated by the municipal bus company, Dortmunder Stadtwerke (DSW21).

The Große Kirche Aplerbeck is a Protestant church in Aplerbeck, now part of Dortmund, Germany. It was built from 1867 to 1869 in Gothic Revival style, designed by Christian Heyden. A listed monument, it is used by the parish St. Georg, serving mostly as a concert church.

Aplerbeck is a borough (Stadtbezirk) of the city of Dortmund in the Ruhr district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since 1929, it has been a suburb of Dortmund, located in the city's south-east. The river Emscher, a tributary of the Ruhr, crosses Aplerbeck. Aplerbeck was first documented as a village in 899. The place is associated with the death of two martyrs both named Ewald in the 7th century, according to the Golden Legend. Aplerbeck was the location of mining and heavy industry as part of the Ruhr from the 19th century to 1926, resulting in a larger population and the building of a representative town hall and a larger church. A psychiatric hospital of regional importance, founded in 1890, is still in operation, now as LWL-Klinik Dortmund.

St. Georg is a church and Protestant parish in Aplerbeck, now part of Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a Romanesque cross basilica (Kreuzbasilika) from the 12th century. The only building in Dortmund of its kind, it is a listed monument.In the 19th century when the town grew due to industrialisation, a larger church was built, and St. Georg fell into disrepair. It served as a community hall from 1926, and was restored as a church from 1963. It is again the parish church, while the larger church has been mostly used for concerts since 1999.

The Magnet Museum (German: Magnetmuseum) is a private museum in Dortmund-Aplerbeck, owned by the company Tridelta. The exhibition provides an overview of historical and current applications of the permanent magnet in electrical engineering. In the museum, the use of permanent magnets in counters, speakers, telephones, switches, relays, clocks, measuring devices, small motors and generators are illuminated in the museum. One focus of the collection is the history of the magnet factory of Dortmund, which was established in the 1920s.

Dortmund-Kirchderne station is a railway station in the Kirchderne district of the town of Dortmund, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The Westfalenhütte is an industrial site in the northeast of Dortmund, Germany. It was established by the steel company Hoesch AG in 1871. At the peak of the so-called Wirtschaftswunder approximately 25,000 people were working there. Following changes in the steel industry and a consolidation process in the sector, activities on the Westfalenhütte were reduced to a few, economically sustainable core areas. Today more than 1,000 people are working on the site of the Westfalenhütte. The Westfalenhütte stretches over approximately five kilometers from east to west, and nearly four kilometers from north to south. The territory is now owned by the ThyssenKrupp AG and is the largest abandoned industrial area in Europe. Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev visited the Westfalenhütte in 1989 and spoke in front of 8,500 steel workers. The Westfalenhütte had its own railway station, called Dortmund-Hoesch, which was in use until 1992. A light rail station from the U44 line is still called Westfalenhütte. The Hoeschpark, a recreational area for industrial workers of the Hoesch AG, was established in 1937 on the site of the Weisse Wiese, the first home stadium of football club Borussia Dortmund.
