Baixada Santista

On 13 August 2014, a Cessna Citation Excel business jet crashed while trying to land at Santos Air Force Base, near Santos, Brazil, killing all seven people on board. Among the victims was Brazilian Socialist Party presidential candidate Eduardo Campos. Eleven people on the ground were also injured. The accident investigation concluded that spatial disorientation in poor weather and pilot fatigue likely caused a low altitude loss of control of the aircraft, leading to the impact with the ground.

Estádio Urbano Caldeira, also known as Vila Belmiro or Pelé, is an association football stadium located in the Vila Belmiro neighborhood of Santos, São Paulo, and the home of Santos Futebol Clube.The stadium was inaugurated on 12 October 1916, when Santos FC beat Clube Atlético Ypiranga 2–1, with Adolpho Millon Jr. scoring the first goal of the stadium. It was named in honour of Urbano Caldeira, former player, manager and chairman of Santos, in 1933. The stadium, given the nickname Vila Belmiro due to its location within the Vila Belmiro neighborhood, has been Santos' permanent residence since 1916. However, the team sometimes uses the Pacaembu Stadium located in the city of São Paulo for important games due to the low capacity of Vila Belmiro. The stadium underwent several expansions and renovations in the 1990s and 2000s (decade), most notably the renewal of the irrigation and drainage systems, flood-lighting and the replacement of the field. The stadium's current highest attendance was recorded in 1964, when 32,989 spectators watched the Campeonato Paulista match between Santos and Corinthians.The funeral of Pelé was held here on 2 and 3 January 2023.

The stadium is owned by Associação Atlética Portuguesa and its formal name honors Ulrico Mursa, who was Companhia Docas de Santos director.

It was established as a chaplaincy of the Church of England, where its main function was to assist both the resident Anglican community and sailors of all nationalities who passed through the port.Currently, it's the only established church at Baixada Santista Metropolitan Region that is associated to Anglican Communion and is part of Anglican Diocese of The São Paulo, of Episcopal Anglican Church of the Brazil. The Memorial Necrópole Ecumênica is a Brazilian cemetery. Located in Santos, in the state of São Paulo, its construction began in 1983, and the first burial was on 28 July 1984.

Arena Santos is an indoor sporting arena located in Santos in São Paulo, Brazil, used for table tennis. The seating capacity of the arena is 5,000 people, and it was opened on 27 October 2010.Arena Santos was the location for some of the matches of the 2011 World Women's Handball Championship.

The Basilica of St. Anthony (Portuguese: Basílica Santo Antônio do Embaré) Also Basilica of Santos It is a Catholic church inaugurated in 1945 in the city of Santos, Sao Paulo in the south of Brazil, that was built in the style of neo-Gothic architecture. The basilica originates in the small chapel built in the middle of 1874 by Antonio Ferreira da Silva, then Baron de Embaré. After his death, the chapel was abandoned for twenty years, when it was rebuilt and inaugurated in 1911. In 1915, it expanded, becoming the church. It was delivered in 1922 to the Capuchin friars, who started the new building in 1930, when they placed the cornerstone that would lead to the current basilica, which finally opened in 1945 and was elevated to the category of basilica by Pope Pius XII in 1952.

The Kestrel was a British barque that was built in 1871 with coal-fueled steam engines and three masts. She spent her career carrying goods across the Atlantic. On 11 February 1895 she was anchored at Santos, near São Paulo, Brazil, when she was caught in a tropical storm. Her anchor chain broke, and she was driven aground on to Boqueirao Beach. All but three crewmen were ashore when the ship was grounded, including Captain Cochrane. The remains of the ship were rediscovered in 2017 after they were uncovered by a storm.

Santos (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈsɐ̃tus] (listen), Saints) is a municipality in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, founded in 1546 by the Portuguese nobleman Brás Cubas. It is located mostly on the island of São Vicente, which harbors both the city of Santos and the city of São Vicente, and partially on the mainland. It is the main city in the metropolitan region of Baixada Santista. The population is 433,656 (2020 est.) in an area of 280.67 km2 (108.37 sq mi). The city is home to the Coffee Museum, where world coffee prices were once negotiated. There is also a football memorial, dedicated to the city's greatest players, which includes Pelé, who spent the majority of his career with Santos Futebol Clube. Its beachfront garden, 5,335 m (5,834 yd) in length, figures in Guinness World Records as the largest beachfront garden in the world.

The Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral (Portuguese: Catedral Nossa Senhora do Rosário) Also Santos Cathedral Is a Catholic church in the city of Santos, in São Paulo State, Brazil. It is the headquarters of the Diocese of Santos and the Parish of Our Lady of Rosario Aparecida, the oldest in the city. The old church of Santos, predecessor of the present cathedral was demolished in 1907 by being in an advanced state of deterioration. In 1909, the construction of the new church - the current temple - began, according to the design of the German engineer Maximilian Emil Hehl, professor of the Polytechnic School of São Paulo. Hehl designed a neo-Gothic style church at that time, with a dome over the Renaissance style cruiser. In general, the project is similar to the Metropolitan Cathedral of São Paulo, designed by Hehl himself. The church, still unfinished, was temporarily opened in 1924, with a Mass celebrated by the metropolitan archbishop Duarte Leopoldo e Silva. In 1925 the Diocese of Saints was created by Pope Pius XI, and the temple was elevated to the category of cathedral. The works of the church would not be finished until 1967.
