Bingley Hall, Stafford

The battle of Hopton Heath was a battle of the First English Civil War, fought on Sunday 19 March 1643 between Parliamentarian forces led by Sir John Gell and Sir William Brereton and a Royalist force under Spencer Compton, 2nd Earl of Northampton.

The Weston Road Academy (formerly Weston Road High School) is an academy school in Stafford, England. It provides secondary and further education for pupils aged 11–18 in the east side of the town, as well as the surrounding villages of Great Haywood, Little Haywood, Hopton, Weston and Hixon. It has links to other local high schools through a local education collaboration - the Stafford Sixth form - which provides education for 16 to 18 year olds. In 2012 it became an academy school. In recent years, the Academy has specialised in mathematics and computing. As of 2021, the school's most recent Ofsted inspection was a short inspection in 2018, which confirmed the previous 2013 judgement of Good.

Hopton is a village in the civil parish of Hopton and Coton and is within the English county of Staffordshire.

Salt and Sandon railway station was a former British railway station opened by the Stafford and Uttoxeter Railway to serve the village of Salt in Staffordshire in 1867.Until 1904 it was known simply as "Salt" the name being changed to avoid confusion with Sandon and Salt station on the North Staffordshire Railway. Sandon was actually about two miles away, the station being nearer to Sandon Bank. The Stafford and Uttoxeter Railway was purchased for £100,000 by the Great Northern Railway in July 1881 and the line subsequently passed into LNER ownership with Railway Grouping in 1923. From Salt the line turned sharply south east towards Ingestre, before passing over the North Staffordshire Railway's main line from Stone to Colwich. Passenger services finished in 1939.

Salt is a village in the Borough of Stafford in Staffordshire, England. It is three miles northeast of Stafford situated half a mile southwest of the A51 trunk road and lying on elevated ground above the western side of the Trent valley. Population details as taken under the 2011 census are found under Seighford. The village has an ancient public house with a thatched roof, The Hollybush Inn, dating from the 17th century, reputedly much older, and a village hall. The village church is dedicated to St James the Great and was built on land donated by the Earl of Shrewsbury and largely paid for by him. It has a large circular stained glass east window, an unusually tall south porch and an open stone bell turret mounted at the east end of the church hung with two bells. The impressive wood rood screen was designed by Augustus Pugin. The village lies less than a mile to the north of Hopton Heath, which was a significant battlefield (Battle of Hopton Heath) in the English Civil War where in 1643 Parliamentarian forces were defeated by Royalists under Spencer Compton, who died there.

The River Penk is a small river flowing through Staffordshire, England. Its course is mainly within South Staffordshire, and it drains most of the northern part of that district, together with some adjoining areas of Cannock Chase, Stafford, Wolverhampton, and Shropshire. It flows into the River Sow, which is a tributary of the River Trent, so its waters flow ultimately into the North Sea via the Humber Estuary.

Ingestre Hall is a Grade II* 17th-century Jacobean mansion situated at Ingestre, near Stafford, Staffordshire, England. Formerly the seat of the Earls Talbot and then the Earls of Shrewsbury, the hall is now owned by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and is in use as a residential arts and conference centre.

Sandon Hall is a 19th-century country mansion, the seat of the Earl of Harrowby, at Sandon, Staffordshire, 5 miles (8.0 km) northeast of Stafford. It is a Grade II* listed building set in 400 acres (1.6 km2) of parkland.

Proceeding north west the line passed over the North Staffordshire Railway's main line from Stone to Colwich, the line climbed slightly towards Chartley and Stowe. Passenger services finished in 1939.

Ingestre is a village and civil parish in the Stafford district, in the county of Staffordshire, England. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 census was 194. It is four miles to the north-east of the county town of Stafford. Ingestre Hall is a local landmark. It was formerly served by both Weston and Ingestre railway station and Ingestre railway station. The village, and civil parish, of Tixall is nearby. The civil parishes of Tixall and Ingestre have shared a single parish council of Ingestre with Tixall since 1979.
