Fahnenstock

The Hangsackgrat (2,634 m) is a mountain of the Glarus Alps, located south of Weisstannen in the canton of St. Gallen. It lies on the range east of Piz Sardona, that separates the Weisstannental from the Calfeisental.

Piz Sardona (or Surenstock) is a mountain in the Glarus Alps, on the border between the cantons Glarus and St. Gallen. The 3,056 metre high mountain overlooks the valleys of Elm (Glarus) and Calfeisen (St. Gallen). Less than one kilometre south of the summit lies the tripoint (3,000 metres) between the cantons of Glarus, St. Gallen and Graubünden. The summit itself is the northernmost point above 3,000 metres in Switzerland. The massif is covered by a few small glaciers, the Sardonagletscher lying near the summit on the east side. Piz Sardona is in the Glarus thrust area, a geologic UNESCO world heritage site, named "Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona". The Foo Pass lies to the north of the Piz Sardona and has a hiking trail from Weisstannen in St. Gallen to Elm in Glarus, forming part of the Alpine Pass Route between Sargans to Montreux.

The Tristelhorn (also known as Piz da Sterls) is a mountain of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Graubünden. Reaching a height of 3,114 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest summits in the canton of St. Gallen. The Tristelhorn is located west of the Ringelspitz, on the range separating the Calfeisen valley (St. Gallen) from the Rhine valley near Flims (Graubünden).

Piz Dolf (Romansh) or Trinserhorn (German) is a mountain of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the cantons of St. Gallen and Graubünden. Piz Sardona is to the north across a glacier, and to its west Piz Segnas. Both Piz Segnas and Piz Dolf show the line of the Glarus thrust in its upper part. The easiest access to the area is an aerial cableway to Fil de Cassons from Flims or any of various hikes to this ridge lying southeast of Piz Dolf. One route uses the ascent via Val Bargis (the path can be seen on the picture (right) crossing the southern face of Piz Dolf in vegetation).

The Glarus thrust (German: Glarner Überschiebung) is a major thrust fault in the Alps of eastern Switzerland. Along the thrust the Helvetic nappes were thrust more than 100 km to the north over the external Aarmassif and Infrahelvetic complex. The thrust forms the contact between older (Helvetic) Permo-Triassic rock layers of the Verrucano group and younger (external) Jurassic and Cretaceous limestones and Paleogene flysch and molasse. The Glarus thrust crops out over a relatively large area in the cantons Glarus, St. Gallen and Graubünden, due to its horizontal orientation and the high local relief. Famous outcrops include those at Lochsite near Glarus (the town) and in a mountain cliff called Tschingelhörner between Elm and Flims (in the same cliff is a natural hole called the Martinsloch).

The Foostock, also known as the Ruchen, is a mountain of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of Glarus and St. Gallen. It lies north of Piz Sardona, on the range that separates the Sernftal from the Weisstannental.The Foostock lies between two passes that carry hiking trails between the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus. The Foo Pass lies to the south of the Foostock and carries a trail from Weisstannen in St. Gallen to Elm in Glarus, forming part of the Alpine Pass Route between Sargans to Montreux. The less well known Riseten Pass lies to the north of the Foostock and links Weisstannen with Matt in Glarus.

The Foo Pass (German: Foopass) is a mountain pass of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus, at an elevation of 2,223 m (7,293 ft). It crosses the col between the peaks of Foostock and Piz Sardona.The pass is traversed by a trail, which connects the village of Weisstannen, in the canton of St. Gallen at an elevation of 1,004 m (3,294 ft), with the village of Elm, in the canton of Glarus at an elevation of 977 m (3,205 ft). The trail forms part of the Alpine Pass Route, a long-distance hiking trail across Switzerland between Sargans and Montreux.The alpine pasture below the pass on the St Gallen side is notable for its marmot colony.

The Riseten Pass (German: Risetenpass) is a mountain pass of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus, at an elevation of 2,189 m (7,182 ft). It crosses the col between the peaks of the Wissgandstöckli and Foostock.The pass is traversed by a trail, which connects the village of Weisstannen, in the canton of St. Gallen at an elevation of 1,004 m (3,294 ft), with the valley of the Krauch stream and thence with the village of Matt, in the canton of Glarus at an elevation of 831 m (2,726 ft).

Piz Segnas is a mountain in the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the cantons of Glarus and Graubünden. Piz Sardona is on the same ridge to the north, from where the Trinserhorn or Piz Dolf lies to the southeast. The Tschingelhoerner with the famous Martinsloch (hole of St.Martin) lies to the west, with the Pass dil Segnas between the two mountains.The mountain lies in the municipalities of Flims, in the canton of Graubünden, and Glarus Süd, in the canton of Glarus. The nearest settlements are the villages of Flims, to the south, and Elm, to the west. A path crosses the Pass dil Segnas between the two villages. The easiest access to the area is an aerial cableway to Fil de Cassons (not active since 2015)from Flims or the hike to this ridge lying southeast of Piz Segnas.On 4 August 2018, a Junkers Ju 52 aircraft, operating a sightseeing flight, crashed into the western flank of the mountain, killing all 20 persons aboard.

Fil de Cassons (also known as Cassonsgrat) is a mountain in the Glarus Alps, located near Flims in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. The southern face is referred to as "Flimserstein", dominating the appearance of the town of Flims. In its east lies Bargis from where a valley leads to its north face, while to its western face the sliding surface tears off of the biggest visible landslide in the world, Flims Rockslide. Piz Dolf is lying to the north across the Bargis valley, and to its west Piz Segnas, both showing the tectonic line of the Glarus thrust in its upper part, a now UNESCO world heritage. The easiest access to Fil de Cassons is an aerial cableway from Flims to this ridge, that actually allows also walks and an alpine experience from the cablecar for people that would not dare to walk a steep mountain path. Walking on top you will easily identify the tectonic line under your feet, as rocks turn from greenish to bright light grey on top of the wide ridge. For hikers aiming for more than a walk, several routes reach the high plateau and the very wide ridge, among them a historic Via Ferrata called Pinut. One hiking route uses the ascent via Val Bargis and Scala Mola, the path that the cows are being sent up to graze in summer. If you stay at the base of the valley of Bargis, you will hike on a path leading more or less around Fil de Cassons from east to northwest before reaching its top.Being a ridge, there is very often hardly snow, allowing walks even in winter along at least one mile on Fil de Cassons.

The Ringelspitz (also known as Piz Barghis) is a mountain of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Graubünden. Reaching a height of 3,248 metres above sea level, it is the highest summit in the canton of St. Gallen. It is split between three municipalities: Pfäfers (St. Gallen), Trin and Tamins (Graubünden). The Ringelspitz is the culminating point of a range, about 12 kilometres long, running from west to east and diverging from the main chain of the Glarus Alp between Piz Sardona and Piz Segnas. The massif separates the Calfeisen valley in canton St. Gallen from the Rhine valley near Flims. The north side of the mountain consists of nearly 2,000 metre-high precipitous cliffs overlooking the Gigerwaldsee (1,335 m).

The Wissgandstöckli is a mountain of the Glarus Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of Glarus and St. Gallen. It lies approximately halfway between Matt and Weisstannen.The Riseten Pass lies to the south of the Wissgandstöckli, and carries a hiking trail between Weisstannen, in the canton of St. Gallen, and Matt, in the canton of Glarus.
