The Church of the Holy Rood in the village is an Anglo-Saxon church with well-preserved stone carvings, including an Anglo-Saxon crucifixion tablet dating to 1015. There is also a canonical sundial on the south wall. The population taken at the 2011 census was 265.

The A417 is a main road in England running from Streatley, Berkshire to Hope under Dinmore, Herefordshire. It is best known for its section between Cirencester and Gloucester where it has primary status and forms part of the link between the major settlements of Swindon and Gloucester.

The Five Mile House is a former pub on Old Gloucester Road, Duntisbourne Abbots, Gloucestershire, England. It was built in the 17th century and is grade II listed.The pub was on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.The inn is on the old Roman road of Ermin Street. Documents found from 1891 and 1903 referred to the pub as the Old Inn. The Five Mile House was owned and operated by the Ruck family from the 1930s until Ivy Ruck's death in 1995. The pub had bare wood floors, open fires and wooden seating, with a small bar leading through to the tap room. The pub was bought and refurbished by the Carrier family, and reopened in 1997. It closed in 2015, after the re-routing of the A419 had diverted much of the passing custom away. The building was converted into a private residence.

The village is 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Cirencester within the Churn valley. The parish also includes the villages of Woodmancote and Calmsden. The North Cerney Manor was in the possession of the Bishop of York from the Conqueror's time until 1545 when it was returned to the Crown.North Cerney is represented by the county councillor for Northleach division and the district councillor for Churn Valley & Chedworth ward on Cotswold District Council. The County Council estimated in 2010 there were 556 people living in the village.The village has a pub, The Bathurst Arms, a primary school, North Cerney C of E Primary School, and a cricket club, North Cerney Cricket Club.
