Café Sperl

The Café Savoy (formerly Café Wienzeile) is a Viennese coffee house and gay bar on the left bank of the Wien river (Linke Wienzeile) in Mariahilf district. It was opened in 1896.The building itself was designed and built by the architect Franz von Neumann in 1896 and 1897, commissioned by textile manufacturer Julius Léon von Wernburg, who bought the property in 1889. The café moved into the majority of the floor at street level. In the beginning, it carried the name Café Wienzeile, based on its location, and was owned by the Kuszak family, who also operated coffee houses in Prague and Budapest. The architectural style is palatial and the café features two mirrors advertised to be Europe′s largest mirrors formed from one piece after the ones in Palace of Versailles, as well as a chandelier by Theophil von Hansen.The coffee house was renamed to Café Savoy in 1983 and downsized to just over a third of the ground level and was renovated in 2008 and 2009.

The Fillgraderstiege is a staircase in the sixth district of Vienna, Mariahilf. It was built from 1905 to 1907 and designed by Max Hegele, a student of Victor Luntz and Carl Hasenauer, in an Art Nouveau style to connect the two streets, Fillgradergasse and Theobaldgasse. The stairs were blocked off in 1981, having been worn down for almost 80 years, and were then repaired between 1982 and 1984, in the process of which a café and art gallery were added in a previously unused inner room behind the stairs, both of which opened on the 1 August 1985. The Fillgraderstiege staircase was named the fourth most beautiful steps in Europe in a 2004 poll of European art professors .

The k.u.k. War College, also k.u.k. Staff College (Ge: k.u.k. Kriegsschule) was the highest military facility to educate, instruct, train, and develop general staff officers of the Austrian Empire and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was located in Vienna, and active from 1852 to 1918. Established in 1852, the k.u.k. War College was an outgrowth of the previous centers of Austrian military scholarship: the Kriegsarchiv and the Österreichische militärische Zeitschrift (Austrian Military Journal). Having been earlier suggested by the likes of officers including Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, it was organized early in the reign of Emperor Franz Josef. Among its students and faculty were such influential members of the Austro-Hungarian military as Count Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf, who attended the school and later taught tactics there from 1888 to 1892.

Museumsquartier (formerly Mariahilfer Straße until 1991 and Babenbergerstraße from 1991 until 2000) is a station on U2 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in the Innere Stadt District. It opened in 1980, using the structure of a pre-metro station opened in 1966 in the same location. The station is expected to close temporarily from 2020 until 2022 to install platform screen doors in preparation for the transfer of this segment of U2 to the new driverless U5, which will take place between 2025 and 2027.

The Naschmarkt is Vienna's most popular market. Located at the Wienzeile over the Wien River, it is about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) long. The Naschmarkt has existed since the 16th century when mainly milk bottles were sold (as milk bottles were made out of ash (wood from an ash tree), "Asch" (German for "ash") led to the name "Aschenmarkt"). From 1793 onwards, all fruits and vegetables brought to Vienna with carts had to be sold there, while goods arriving on the Danube were sold elsewhere. Nowadays, one can buy fresh fruit and vegetables from around the world, exotic herbs, cheese, baked goods such as bread, kaiser rolls, torte, meats, and seafood. There are also many small restaurants which offer e.g. sushi, kebab, seafood, traditional Viennese food such as Kaiserschmarrn or Palatschinken (rolled up crepes) and stalls which offer clothes and accessories. Since 1977, the market extends further along the Wienzeile to an adjacent area every Saturday, when a flea market takes place there. The atmosphere of the Naschmarkt is famous far beyond the borders of Vienna, and large numbers of tourists visit the market every year.

The Theater an der Wien is a historic theatre in Vienna located on the Left Wienzeile in the Mariahilf district. Completed in 1801, the theatre has hosted the premieres of many celebrated works of theatre, opera, and symphonic music. Since 2006, it has served primarily as an opera house, hosting its own company. Although "Wien" is German for "Vienna", the "Wien" in the name of the theatre is actually the name of the Wien River, which once flowed by the theatre site; "an der Wien" means "on the banks of the Wien". In modern times, the river has been covered over in this location and the covered riverbed now houses the Naschmarkt, an open-air market. The theatre is operated in cooperation with Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW) which also operates the Raimund Theater and the Ronacher.

The Leopold Museum, housed in the Museumsquartier in Vienna, Austria, is home to one of the largest collections of modern Austrian art, featuring artists such as Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka and Richard Gerstl. It contains the world's largest Egon Schiele Collection. The more than 5,000 exhibits collected by Elisabeth and Rudolf Leopold over five decades were consolidated in 1994 with the assistance of the Republic of Austria and the National Bank of Austria into the Leopold Museum Private Foundation. In 2001 the Leopold Museum was opened.The core of the collection consists of Austrian art of the first half of the 20th century, including key paintings and drawings by Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, showing the gradual transformation from the Wiener Secession, the Art Nouveau/Jugendstil movement in Austria to Expressionism. The historical context is illustrated by major Austrian works of art from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Dritte Mann Museum (Third Man Museum) is a film museum in the 4th district of Vienna, Austria. Opened in 2005, the museum has an area of over 400 square meters divided into 16 rooms, displaying a comprehensive collection of original exhibits based on and around the international film triumph The Third Man, directed by Carol Reed and based on a treatment by Graham Greene.The Third Man Museum is an independent two-person project, initiated by Gerhard Strassgschwandtner. He put together the collection, whilst the design and concept came from Karin Höfler. Specialists and generalists, they created the museum from scratch. It is a private museum with no sponsors and subsidies. The museum is aimed for film fans and contains collections on the history of pre- and post-war Vienna. An exhibition within the museum explains the historical backdrop of the film and portrays the everyday life of a city occupied by the Allies (Americans, British, Soviets and French) between 1945 and 1955, and includes many original documents from the period.

The Prayner Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna licensed by the Austrian authorities founded in 1905, and has developed into one of the most well-known and historical conservatories in the city of Vienna.This conservatory has been permanently closed since June 2020. The below is no longer valid. Currently the conservatory offers undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees as well as offering adult education and pre-college education. Students of all levels can take voice or instrumental lessons, and have the opportunity to perform in the orchestra or choir. At the end of the study at Prayner Conservatory the students graduate an internationally recognized Austrian "Artistic Diploma" in the following by the Austrian authorities licensed fields of study: Piano, Singing, Violin, Violoncello, Viola, Double-Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumped, Trombone, Horn, Tuba, Guitar, Harp, Accordion, Percussion Instruments as well as for Composition, Conducting, Accompanying classes, Chamber Music, Opera, and Orchestra Repertoire. Conservatory's Center location includes two existing buildings on A-1040 Mühlgasse 28-30 and A-1060 Mariahilferstrasse 51 - with its historically significant facades and relatively sound structure. The Prayner Conservatory has more than a hundred teachers including Maksimiljan Cencic, Galina Mauracher (Gal Rasché), Dr. Massimo Stefanizzi, Dr. Giorgi Latso, Mag. Josef Stolz, Valbona Naku, Filimon Ginalis, Barbara Górzyńska, Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin, Karin Reda, Ulf-Dieter Soyka, Gerald Smrzek, Victoria Loukianetz and Franz Zettl.

Kunsthalle Wien is the city of Vienna's institution for international contemporary art and discourse with two locations, in the Museumsquartier and at Karlsplatz. Kunsthalle Wien does not have a collection of its own, but instead dedicates its changing solo and thematic exhibitions to art and its relations to social change. It produces exhibitions, researches art practices, and supports local and international artists. It seeks to ground its knowledge of international contemporary art in and for Vienna, and advocates for the usefulness of artistic thinking in the wider public sphere.

The Cellini Salt Cellar (in Vienna called the Saliera, Italian for salt cellar) is a part-enamelled gold table sculpture by Benvenuto Cellini. It was completed in 1543 for Francis I of France, from models that had been prepared many years earlier for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este. The cellar is the only remaining work of precious metal which can be reliably attributed to Cellini. It was created in the Mannerist style of the late Renaissance and allegorically portrays Terra e Mare (Land and Sea). In Cellini's description, the sea was represented by a male figure reclining beside a ship for holding the salt; the earth he "fashioned like a woman" and placed a temple near her to serve as a receptacle for pepper. The salt cellar is made of ivory, rolled gold, and vitreous enamel. The gold is not cast in a mould but hammered by hand into its delicate shape. It stands about 26 cm tall. The base is about 33.5 cm wide and features bearings to roll it around.It came into the possession of the Habsburgs as a gift by Charles IX of France to Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol, who had acted as a proxy for Charles in his wedding to Elisabeth of Austria. It was originally part of the Habsburg art collection at Castle Ambras, but was transferred to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna during the 19th century.

The Museumsquartier (MQ) is a 90,000 m2 large area in the 7th district of the city of Vienna, Austria.
