Scarborough—Rouge River (provincial electoral district)

Scarborough—Rouge River was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada between 1988 and 2015. However, as of the Fall 2015 federal election, part of this riding has been combined with the south-western part of the old riding Pickering—Scarborough East. The riding covered the northeast part of the Scarborough part of Toronto. It stretched from Highway 401 in the south to Steeles Avenue in the north. In the east it ended at the border with Pickering and in the west at Midland north of Finch and Brimley south of Finch. Scarborough—Rouge River has the highest percentage of visible minorities in all electoral districts (89.7%) and the lowest percentage of White Caucasians (10.1%). Chinese make up 30.8%, South Asian 32.8% (all South Asian countries), Black 10.7%, White 8.7% Tamil is the mother tongue for 13.2% of the population, which is the highest such percentage for that language among all ridings; likewise for Tamil as a home language (10.5%). 13.6% of the population is Hindu, the 2nd highest in Canada after Brampton East.In the 2011 federal election, the NDP were elected for the first time. The riding was abolished before the 2015 election. The western portion, along with most of its population, became part of Scarborough North, while the eastern portion became Scarborough—Rouge Park.

The Old Finch Avenue bridge is a Bailey bridge in Toronto. The Finch bridge is used for limited vehicular traffic on Old Finch Avenue in north-east Toronto to cross the Rouge River. The bridge dates back to late October 1954; it was constructed by the Canadian Army in three working days (including the timber piles supporting in mid-stream) using bridge components from the Ontario Hydro-Electric Power Commission, after Hurricane Hazel destroyed the old one. This bridge was built for single traffic; it is now controlled by traffic lights. The bridge is considered an historic landmark in Toronto, where the City of Scarborough council has erected a plaque beside the bridge which reads: BAILEY BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION 2ND FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT On October 15, 1954, Hurricane Hazel struck the Scarborough area with terrifying force, severely damaging or completely washing out several bridges. To maintain a safe flow of traffic throughout the Municipality, a number of Bailey Bridges were erected by the 2nd Field Engineer Regiment of the Canadian Military Engineers. This bridge is the last of those remaining in service in Scarborough. This plaque serves to commemorate the efforts of the 2nd Field Engineer Regiment in meeting this natural disaster. Sewells Road Bridge is a single direction suspension bridge that carries vehicular traffic north and south on Sewells Road over the Rouge river in Toronto. The bridge is unique as it is one of only a few suspension bridges found in Ontario, and one of the shortest vehicular applications (most suspension bridges are used to span major waterways or valleys).

Rouge is a neighbourhood in the northeastern area of Toronto, Ontario, within the former city of Scarborough. It is Toronto's largest neighbourhood by surface area; however, unlike other neighbourhoods, most of its area remains undeveloped, as the neighbourhood is adjacent to Rouge National Urban Park.

The Toronto Zoo is a zoo located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Encompassing 287 hectares (710 acres), the Toronto Zoo is the largest zoo in Canada. It is divided into seven zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, Americas, Tundra Trek, Australasia, Eurasia, and the Canadian Domain. Some animals are displayed indoors in pavilions and outdoors in what would be their naturalistic environments, with viewing at many levels. It also has areas such as the Kids Zoo, Waterside Theatre, and Splash Island. It has one of the most taxonomically diverse collection of animals on display of any zoo; it is currently home to over 5,000 animals (including invertebrates and fish) representing over 500 species. The zoo is open to the public every day of the year except December 25. The zoo is a corporation owned by the municipal government of Toronto. Founded by John Cameron Egan and business partner, Hugh A. Crothers, an industrialist who became the first Chairman of the Metro Toronto Zoological Society in 1966, the zoo opened on August 15, 1974, as the Metropolitan Toronto Zoo. The word "Metropolitan" was dropped from its name when the individual municipalities that make up the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto was amalgamated into the current city in 1998. The zoo is located near the Rouge River on the western border of Rouge Park in the city's east end district of Scarborough.

The Phuket Zoo is a zoo located in Phuket, Thailand. It was founded as a private zoo in 1997 and currently remains private. The zoo is located near the Muang District and the Phuket Bay. The zoo has been embroiled in controversy over its lack of animal welfare standards and allegations of extreme cruelty to animals.The zoo covers an area of 4.8 hectares (30 rai). It is known for having close encounters with many exotic animals including tigers, monkeys and elephants. The zoo has many sections including areas devoted to crocodiles, elephants and monkeys while also having an aquarium and an orchard garden.

Scarborough—Rouge Park is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. Scarborough—Rouge Park was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election that took place on October 19, 2015. It was created out of parts of the electoral districts of Pickering—Scarborough East (49%), Scarborough—Rouge River (36%) and Scarborough—Guildwood (14%).

Morningside Heights is a residential neighbourhood in the district of Scarborough in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the northeast corner of the city, just north of the Malvern and west of Rouge Park and the Rouge. The subdivision, comprising approximately 750 acres (3.0 km2), was one of the last large tracts of undeveloped land within the City of Toronto, located between Finch Avenue East and Steeles Avenue East, from Tapscott Road to the Rouge River.The area is named after Morningside Avenue, which was extended north into the neighbourhood. The northern section of Morningside Heights is also known as Brookside. The community is divided, north and south, by hydro lines that cut across the development. The name Brookside originates from a golf course that was once on the site, northeast of the intersection of Oasis Boulevard and Seasons Drive. Local residents formed the Morningside Heights Neighbourhood Association in 2015. In 2018, it was registered with the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services as a not-for-profit group.

St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy (SMTCA, St. Mother Teresa, SMT, Mother Teresa, or Teresa for short); also known as by its former names Blessed Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School before 2016 and Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School in its inception is a Catholic secondary school in the Malvern neighbourhood of Scarborough, a municipality of Toronto, Ontario.

Scarborough—Rouge Park is a provincial electoral district in Scarborough, Toronto. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. This riding was created in 2015.

Bob Hunter Memorial Park is a greenspace preserve in Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is named in honour of Robert Hunter, one of the founders of Greenpeace. The park was officially opened in August 2006 by then Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty.It consists of 500 acres (200 ha) of provincially owned land on the western edge of the Rouge River valley within Rouge Park, bounded roughly by Ontario Highway 407 to the north, Steeles Avenue East to the south, Little Rouge Creek (Rouge Park) to the east and the Canadian Pacific Railway Havelock subdivision (Kawartha Lakes Railway) line to the west.The city of Markham has a development plan for the park which includes renaturalizing the agricultural lands with Carolinian forests. In the spring of 2011, 25 hectares (62 acres) of forest were planted, and in the summer of 2011 a project began to create a meadow on land formerly used for agriculture. The park is scheduled to open in 2015 and "…will feature hiking and biking trails, a nature trail, restored wetland and re-planted native woodland."

Cedar Grove is a community in Markham, Ontario on the Little Rouge River. It is centred on 14th Avenue and Reesor Road (10th Line) and within the boundaries of the future national Rouge Park.
