Toronto Zoo

The Phuket Zoo is a zoo located in Phuket, Thailand. It was founded as a private zoo in 1997 and currently remains private. The zoo is located near the Muang District and the Phuket Bay. The zoo has been embroiled in controversy over its lack of animal welfare standards and allegations of extreme cruelty to animals.The zoo covers an area of 4.8 hectares (30 rai). It is known for having close encounters with many exotic animals including tigers, monkeys and elephants. The zoo has many sections including areas devoted to crocodiles, elephants and monkeys while also having an aquarium and an orchard garden.

Scarborough—Rouge Park is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. Scarborough—Rouge Park was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election that took place on October 19, 2015. It was created out of parts of the electoral districts of Pickering—Scarborough East (49%), Scarborough—Rouge River (36%) and Scarborough—Guildwood (14%).

The Old Finch Avenue bridge is a Bailey bridge in Toronto. The Finch bridge is used for limited vehicular traffic on Old Finch Avenue in north-east Toronto to cross the Rouge River. The bridge dates back to late October 1954; it was constructed by the Canadian Army in three working days (including the timber piles supporting in mid-stream) using bridge components from the Ontario Hydro-Electric Power Commission, after Hurricane Hazel destroyed the old one. This bridge was built for single traffic; it is now controlled by traffic lights. The bridge is considered an historic landmark in Toronto, where the City of Scarborough council has erected a plaque beside the bridge which reads: BAILEY BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION 2ND FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT On October 15, 1954, Hurricane Hazel struck the Scarborough area with terrifying force, severely damaging or completely washing out several bridges. To maintain a safe flow of traffic throughout the Municipality, a number of Bailey Bridges were erected by the 2nd Field Engineer Regiment of the Canadian Military Engineers. This bridge is the last of those remaining in service in Scarborough. This plaque serves to commemorate the efforts of the 2nd Field Engineer Regiment in meeting this natural disaster. Scarborough—Rouge River was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada between 1988 and 2015. However, as of the Fall 2015 federal election, part of this riding has been combined with the south-western part of the old riding Pickering—Scarborough East. The riding covered the northeast part of the Scarborough part of Toronto. It stretched from Highway 401 in the south to Steeles Avenue in the north. In the east it ended at the border with Pickering and in the west at Midland north of Finch and Brimley south of Finch. Scarborough—Rouge River has the highest percentage of visible minorities in all electoral districts (89.7%) and the lowest percentage of White Caucasians (10.1%). Chinese make up 30.8%, South Asian 32.8% (all South Asian countries), Black 10.7%, White 8.7% Tamil is the mother tongue for 13.2% of the population, which is the highest such percentage for that language among all ridings; likewise for Tamil as a home language (10.5%). 13.6% of the population is Hindu, the 2nd highest in Canada after Brampton East.In the 2011 federal election, the NDP were elected for the first time. The riding was abolished before the 2015 election. The western portion, along with most of its population, became part of Scarborough North, while the eastern portion became Scarborough—Rouge Park.

Scarborough—Rouge River was a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario between 1999 and 2018. The riding covers the northeast part of the Scarborough part of Toronto. It stretches from Highway 401 in the south to Steeles Avenue in the north. In the east it ends at the border with Pickering and to just west of Midland in the west. In 2018, the district was dissolved into Scarborough—Rouge Park and Scarborough North.

Sewells Road Bridge is a single direction suspension bridge that carries vehicular traffic north and south on Sewells Road over the Rouge river in Toronto. The bridge is unique as it is one of only a few suspension bridges found in Ontario, and one of the shortest vehicular applications (most suspension bridges are used to span major waterways or valleys).

The Beare Road landfill was a landfill that operated in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada until 1983. The site is bounded by Finch Avenue East to the north, the Scarborough-Pickering Town Line to the east, CN Rail line to the west and hydro corridor to the south. Metropolitan Toronto opened the site in 1967 with the approval of Scarborough Council. The 80.5-hectare site, originally with a capacity of 3.3 million tonnes, received solid waste through 1988. Metro and Scarborough agreed to expand the landfill's capacity by 635,000 tonnes in 1971 and 5.4 million tonnes in 1974. Following closure of the landfill in 1983, the City continued to manage the site to control potential impacts. To limit emissions and control odours, the surface of the site was equipped with an array of passive candlestick gas flares. The City developed a landfill gas to electricity project at the Beare Road site. Construction of the LFG collection field and power plant proceeded and generation of electricity from LFG began in January 1996.

Rouge is a neighbourhood in the northeastern area of Toronto, Ontario, within the former city of Scarborough. It is Toronto's largest neighbourhood by surface area; however, unlike other neighbourhoods, most of its area remains undeveloped, as the neighbourhood is adjacent to Rouge National Urban Park.

The Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC; French: Centre sportif panaméricain de Toronto) is a sports complex in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Co-owned by the City of Toronto and the University of Toronto Scarborough, it is operated by TPASC Inc., with programming offered by both the university and Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation. It is located at the northern grounds of the university's Scarborough campus near the intersection of Highway 401 and Morningside Avenue in the suburb of Scarborough Opened to the public on September 2, 2014, the complex consists of a 3,500-seat aquatics arena (6,000 during the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games) with two Olympic-size swimming pools and a diving well; and a 2,000-seat field house that includes four full-sized gymnasiums, a fitness centre, a climbing wall, and a 200-metre track. The centre hosted diving, fencing, swimming, synchronized swimming and modern pentathlon competitions during the 2015 Pan American Games. Funding for the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre is the largest single investment in amateur sports in the history of Canada.

Highland Creek is a neighbourhood in eastern Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located along the southern portion of the river of the same name in the former suburb of Scarborough. To the east are the neighbourhoods of Port Union and West Rouge, to the west West Hill and Woburn, and to the south Centennial Scarborough. The western portion of the neighbourhood is occupied by the University of Toronto Scarborough, a feature landmark in the area and a busy pedestrian centre. After the opening of the college, the neighbourhood was developed primarily into residential areas. Areas dominated by wildlife, which is located along the Highland Creek valley, were left alone. Some shops and a church exist along the commercial Old Kingston Road. The community is one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in Scarborough with wide lot homes. Home prices are relatively expensive compared to other areas of Scarborough. This partly due to the location of the university.

St. John Paul II Catholic Secondary School (occasionally known as SJPII, St. John Paul II, SJPIICSS, JPII, or in short, Pope); known as Blessed Pope John Paul II Catholic Secondary School and Pope John Paul II Catholic Secondary School before the beatification of John Paul II is a publicly funded high school in West Hill and Seven Oaks neighbourhoods of Scarborough, which is the eastern part of Toronto, Ontario, Canada part of the Toronto Catholic District School Board. The motto for Pope is Laudetur Jesus Christus which translates as "Praised be Jesus Christ".
