Heroes Tunnel

WYBC-FM (94.3 MHz) is an urban adult contemporary radio station, licensed to New Haven, Connecticut. The station's studios are located on the campus of Yale University. The station is owned by Yale Broadcasting Company and operated through a local marketing agreement (LMA) with Connoisseur Media as of May 10, 2013. Through the LMA, most of WYBC-FM's programming originates from Connoisseur's facilities located on Wheelers Farms Road in Milford. The station's transmitter is located in West Rock Ridge State Park.

West Rock is a neighborhood of the city of New Haven, Connecticut. The neighborhood is dominated by the southern end of West Rock Ridge State Park. It also contains the campus of Southern Connecticut State University and Common Ground High School. The north end of the official neighborhood contains the Brookside neighborhood. The public housing in the neighborhood has been redeveloped in recent years, after dilapidation and neglect, under the Federal HOPE VI program. These include Brookside, Rockview and Ribicoff (now Twin Brook).For many years, the community was separated from neighboring Hamden, Connecticut by a chain link fence on the Hamden side of the border. The fence was a source of much political and racial conflict between the two municipalities. The neighboring communities and road network are now reconnected.

Amity is a residential and commercial neighborhood of the city of New Haven, Connecticut, United States. It is bounded on the northeast by West Rock Ridge, on the south by the Westville neighborhood of New Haven, and on the northwest by the Flats in the town of Woodbridge, Connecticut. The official New Haven neighborhood planning maps include the traditionally separate neighborhoods of West Hills (vicinity of Valley Street) and Beverly Hills (area between Whalley Avenue and Fountain Street) within the Amity neighborhood. The neighborhood lies in the glacier-carved valley of the West River. The river flows in a southerly direction, bisecting the neighborhood. Three primary routes serve Amity: Route 15, also known as the Wilbur Cross Parkway, a limited access highway which has a full interchange numbered as Exit 59 in the neighborhood. Route 63 (Amity Road), which runs northwest–southeast, starting in Amity. Route 69 (Whalley Avenue), originating in Amity and running north–south parallel to the western flank of West Rock Ridge.Located near Amity is the western outlet of the Heroes Tunnel, a twin tunnel which carries the Wilbur Cross Parkway through approximately 1,200 feet (370 m) of solid traprock beneath West Rock Ridge. It is the only tunnel on a limited-access highway in the state of Connecticut. The southbound roadway on the Wilbur Cross Parkway ascends sharply when exiting from the Heroes Tunnel, climbing over 250 feet (76 m) in less than 2 miles (3.2 km), the steepest inclination on any limited-access highway in the State of Connecticut. When travelling northbound on the Wilbur Cross Parkway approaching toward Exit 59, the roadway descends sharply into the valley, offering a scenic vista of the West Rock Ridge, the twin tubes of the Heroes Tunnel, the City of New Haven to the south, and the glacial valley which opens to the north. Amity is home to its namesake Amity Shopping Center, and is located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of Amity Regional High School, which serves the neighboring towns of Woodbridge, Bethany, and Orange, Connecticut.

Westville is a neighborhood of the city of New Haven, Connecticut. The area is positively reviewed for its walkability, diverse population, and livability. It is more expensive than the average American city, has lower crime rates, and graduates children from high school at rates above the national average.

West Rock Ridge State Park is a public recreation area located in New Haven, Hamden, and Woodbridge, Connecticut. The state park is named for the 400-to-700-foot (120 to 210 m) trap rock West Rock Ridge, which is part of the Metacomet Ridge extending from Long Island Sound to the Vermont border. The park's 7 miles (11 km) of open west-facing cliffs offer vistas encompassing Metropolitan New Haven and suburban towns to the west. The park includes Judges Cave, a colonial era historic site; Lake Wintergreen; and the 7-mile (11 km) Regicides Trail, part of the Connecticut Forest and Park Association's Blue Trail system. The park is part of a larger area of protected open space including state, municipal, and non-profit owned land.

The Darling House Museum is a historic house museum at 1907 Litchfield Turnpike in Woodbridge, Connecticut, and is owned and operated by the Amity & Woodbridge Historical Society. The house is open by appointment and during special events. In the early 1770s, Thomas Darling hired Abiel Gray of West Hartford, Connecticut, to build a new home in Amity Parish, outside of New Haven. Gray took two years (1772–1774) to finish the project. The house has a gambrel roof, is built on a central hall plan and has some unusual features. Paneling and woodwork in the hallway and front rooms are richly detailed under 9-foot, 3-inch ceilings. The influence of 18th-century New York is suggested by the imported tiles of Biblical scenes over one fireplace.Much of the furniture and many items in the home were owned by the Darling family, which owned the house and surrounding land until 1973, when the property was sold to the town of Woodbridge and the Amity & Woodbridge Historical Society began caring for the structure. The property includes a large 18th-century barn, a 19th-century horse barn, a carriage shed, a chicken coop, a pig house, and a 19th-century privy. The town maintains several fields near the house, and some easy walking trails skirt the base of West Rock. The Society has a large collection of farm implements on display in the horse barn. Quilts, linens, and period clothing are also displayed in the house.

The Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy of Connecticut is an independent Jewish K-12 school located in Stamford, Connecticut. The Jewish High School of Connecticut (JHSC) in Stamford, in the fall of 2018, merged with the Bi-Cultural Day School to become the Upper School for the Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy of Connecticut.

The Old West Haven High School is a historic former school building at 278 Main Street in West Haven, Connecticut. Built in 1926 during a period of rapid population growth, it served the city as a high school and then junior high school until 1983. It was designed by New Haven architect Roy Foote, and is a prominent local example of Classical Revival architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It now houses residences.

The James Alexis Darling House is a historic house at 1932 Litchfield Turnpike (Connecticut Route 69) in Woodbridge, Connecticut. Built in 1842 for a grandson of Thomas Darling (whose house stands nearby), it is a good example of a rural Greek Revival farmhouse. Although built with the latest exterior styling, its construction style harkens back to 18th-century building practices. James Alexis Darling worked in the family mercantile business and moved to Woodbridge to oversee his grandfather's farm.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.

Edgewood Park is a public park located in City of New Haven, Connecticut, United States, between the Edgewood and Westville neighborhoods of the city. The park is over 120 acres along the West River, with walking trails by ponds and wetlands and a wetlands viewing platform. Park amenities include a gazebo, dog run, playground, skate park, tennis courts, and a basketball court. The park also features memorials for the Spanish–American War and the Holocaust.

Southern Connecticut State University (Southern Connecticut, Southern Connecticut State, SCSU, or simply Southern) is a public university in New Haven, Connecticut. Part of the Connecticut State University System, it was founded in 1893 and is governed by the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education.

Eli Whitney Technical High School, or Whitney Tech, is a technical high school located in Hamden, Connecticut, which receives students from many nearby towns. Eli Whitney Tech is part of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System.
