Southern Connecticut State University

The Old West Haven High School is a historic former school building at 278 Main Street in West Haven, Connecticut. Built in 1926 during a period of rapid population growth, it served the city as a high school and then junior high school until 1983. It was designed by New Haven architect Roy Foote, and is a prominent local example of Classical Revival architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It now houses residences.

Beaver Hills is a neighborhood in the city of New Haven, Connecticut. The older, east central portion of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Beaver Hills Historic District. The southwest portion is a state historic district called the Fairlawn-Nettleton Historic District.The name “Beaver Hills” dates to the Colonial era, when it was a piece of high ground near several "beaver ponds". Geologist James Dwight Dana later attributed the "Beaver Pond" to natural springs, rather than the activity of beavers.The Beaver Hills Historic District covers 97 acres (39 ha) of the neighborhood north of Goffe Street and east of Ella Grasso Boulevard. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and included 235 contributing buildings. The listing recognized the district's significance as a nearly intact example of an early 20th-century suburban residential subdivision. The district in 1986 was composed mostly of single-family homes built between 1908 and 1936. One feature of note was the presence of "one of the city's best collections of early 20th-century garages." The district includes brick gateway piers at the intersections of Goffe Terrace with Norton Parkway and with Ellsworth Avenue, at the south end of the district. The piers include "tile plaques depicting beavers" and "were constructed by the Beaver Hills Company in 1908 to define the southern terminus of the neighborhood." Significant contributing properties in the historic district include the Pitkin House (1931 Tudor Revival style house at 207 Colony Road) and the Alan Krevit House (1936 Colonial Revival style house at 186 Colony Road)

Queen Anne, Spanish Colonial Revival, Prairie and other styles are also represented. One feature of note was the presence of "one of the city's best collections of early 20th-century garages."Significant contributing properties in the historic district include: Pitkin House, from 1931, a Tudor Revival style house at 207 Colony Road. Fairlawn–Nettleton Historic District is a state-designated historic district in New Haven, Connecticut.It is located in the Beaver Hills neighborhood of New Haven. The street boundaries are Goffe Terrace on the northeast, Osborn Avenue on the northwest, Whalley Avenue on the southwest, and Ella T. Grasso Boulevard on the southeast.

Eli Whitney Technical High School, or Whitney Tech, is a technical high school located in Hamden, Connecticut, which receives students from many nearby towns. Eli Whitney Tech is part of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System.

Hamilton Park, also known as Brewster Park and Howard Avenue Grounds, was a sports venue in New Haven, Connecticut, located at the intersection of Whalley Avenue and West Park Avenue.Hamilton Park hosted Yale University sports competitions in the 19th century. It was the first home field for Yale's football team, used from 1870 until Yale Field was acquired in the 1880s.The park hosted horse races and was home to the New Haven Elm Citys baseball team of the National Association during the 1875 season. It is considered a major league ballpark by those who count the National Association as a major league as well as by those who recognize isolated games, as the Hartford club hosted one game there in 1877.

James Hillhouse High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school in New Haven, Connecticut. It serves grades 9–12. Formerly New Haven High School, it is the oldest public high school in New Haven, and is part of the New Haven Public Schools.

Edgewood Park is a public park located in City of New Haven, Connecticut, United States, between the Edgewood and Westville neighborhoods of the city. The park is over 120 acres along the West River, with walking trails by ponds and wetlands and a wetlands viewing platform. Park amenities include a gazebo, dog run, playground, skate park, tennis courts, and a basketball court. The park also features memorials for the Spanish–American War and the Holocaust.

West Rock is a neighborhood of the city of New Haven, Connecticut. The neighborhood is dominated by the southern end of West Rock Ridge State Park. It also contains the campus of Southern Connecticut State University and Common Ground High School. The north end of the official neighborhood contains the Brookside neighborhood. The public housing in the neighborhood has been redeveloped in recent years, after dilapidation and neglect, under the Federal HOPE VI program. These include Brookside, Rockview and Ribicoff (now Twin Brook).For many years, the community was separated from neighboring Hamden, Connecticut by a chain link fence on the Hamden side of the border. The fence was a source of much political and racial conflict between the two municipalities. The neighboring communities and road network are now reconnected.

Highwood is a neighborhood in the south-central portion of the town of Hamden, Connecticut. It is primarily residential, with a mixture of small apartment buildings and single-family, two- and three-family homes. Commercial development is concentrated on its principal street, Dixwell Avenue. Immigrants from Germany were the first to settle the area extensively in the 1860s, followed by others from Ireland, Italy, and Eastern Europe later in the nineteenth century. Today it is predominantly African American.There are no officially established boundaries for the neighborhood. One map has it bounded on the north by Helen Street and Putnam Avenue, on the east by Newhall Street, on the south by the New Haven city line, and on the west by Fitch Street and Fairview Avenue. The census tract with GEOID 09009165500, corresponding closely to these boundaries, had a population of 4,959, as of the 2010 census. Several other names have been given to the neighborhood. The German immigrants named it Hamburg after the city in their homeland. It was given the Highwood name in 1888 by its first postmaster, Daniel Visel, while looking at tall trees through the window. It is also known as South Hamden, and its eastern portion has also been called Newhall; however, it should not be confused with the adjoining Newhallville neighborhood in New Haven.

The New Haven Armory (also known as the Goffe Street Armory) is a historic building at 270–290 Goffe Street in the Dixwell neighborhood of New Haven, Connecticut, United States. Developed between 1928 and 1930, the armory served the Connecticut National Guard and the Second Company Governor's Foot Guard. It has also served as a venue for concerts, events and other civic functions in the community.

Edgewood Historic District is a historic district located in the west-central portion of New Haven, Connecticut. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. A predominantly residential area roughly bisected by Edgewood Avenue, a broad boulevard which features a large central esplanade and forms the principal east-west artery through the heart of the district. The area includes 232 contributing buildings, 4 other contributing structures, and 1 contributing object. Most of these were built between about 1888 and 1900, and represent the city's first neighborhood planned under the tenets of the City Beautiful movement. They are generally either Queen Anne or Colonial Revival in style, and are set (especially on the boulevard-like Edgewood Avenue) on larger lots. The district's most notable topographical feature is the West River, which runs through Edgewood Park in the eastern end of the district on a north-south axis. From the West River, the landscape rapidly rises about forty feet to Yale Avenue on the west. Edgewood Park also includes memorials for the Spanish–American War and the Holocaust. The park's current layout was designed in 1910 by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The district includes the central portion of the Edgewood neighborhood, which is generally the area bounded by Whalley Avenue, Sherman Avenue, Chapel Street, and Edgewood Park. The district also borders the Dwight Street Historic District on the east.Edgewood Avenue and is served by route 246 of Connecticut Transit New Haven. The main north-south road is Ella Grasso Boulevard (Route 10).
