Penny Bridge station

The Kosciuszko Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over Newtown Creek in New York City, connecting Greenpoint in Brooklyn to Maspeth in Queens. The bridge consists of a pair of cable-stayed bridge spans: the eastbound span opened in April 2017, while the westbound span opened in August 2019. An older bridge, a truss bridge of the same name that was located on the site of the westbound cable-stayed span, was originally opened in 1939 and was closed and demolished in 2017. The crossing is part of the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway (BQE), which carries Interstate 278. The older truss bridge replaced a swing bridge called the Meeker Avenue Bridge, which connected Meeker Avenue in Brooklyn to Laurel Hill Boulevard in Queens. The old Kosciuszko Bridge, originally also called the Meeker Avenue Bridge, carried six lanes of traffic, three in each direction. In 1940, a year after opening, the bridge was renamed after Polish military leader Tadeusz Kościuszko, who fought alongside the Americans in the American Revolutionary War. In 2014, a contract was awarded and work begun to build one of two replacement bridges with more capacity, with the first bridge initially carrying bidirectional traffic. The replacement bridges have the same name as the original bridge, and are both cable-stayed bridges that will each carry one direction of traffic. The first bridge, located south of the old truss bridge, opened on April 27, 2017, with three lanes in each direction. Once the old bridge was demolished via controlled explosion in October 2017, a new westbound cable-stayed bridge with four lanes and a bike/pedestrian path started construction on the site of the old bridge. The first cable-stayed bridge became eastbound-only with five lanes when the westbound bridge opened on August 29, 2019.

The Greenpoint oil spill is one of the largest oil spills ever recorded in the United States. Located around Newtown Creek in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, between 17 and 30 million US gallons (64,000 and 114,000 m3) of oil and petroleum products have leaked into the soil from crude oil processing facilities over a period of several decades. The spill was first noticed in 1978, and soil vapor tests were still reported as returning positive in 2008.

Mussel Island was an island in Newtown Creek located near its confluence with Maspeth Creek, between the Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint and the Queens neighborhood of Maspeth in New York City. Prior to industrialization, Newtown Creek hosted a sizable population of mussel on its bottom and at the confluence of Maspeth Creek and Newtown Creek was Mussel Island, an uninhabited patch of marshland that survived into the 1940s. With hundreds of thousands of vessels traveling through Newtown Creek in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this island posed a navigation hazard, forcing boats to tightly swerve around it.In 1921, Congress approved a dredging project for Newtown Creek that proposed to eliminate Mussel Island in favor of a "turning basin" that would enable larger vessels to turn around. By the end of the following decade, the project was completed and the island disappeared beneath the water. Map company Hagstrom continued to mark the island on its maps until October 2000, when a reader asked The New York Times about the island and Hagstrom conceded that it no longer belonged on the map.

Laurel Hill was a railroad station on the Lower Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road in Long Island City, New York. It was located on Clifton Street south of Clinton Place, neither of which exist today. Clifton Street is now 46th Street, and is a dead end street that doesn't reach the vicinity of the Montauk Branch. Laurel Hill station was located a few blocks west of the point where the former junction between the New York and Flushing Railroad and South Side Railroad of Long Island existed. For some reason Laurel Hill didn't appear on the 1894, 1897 or 1899 timetables. It was built by the LIRR in 1890, fifteen years after that junction was eliminated for passenger service, and ten years after it was removed completely. The station was only opened for ten years and closed in 1900. Industrialization of Long Island City and the altering of both street names and street patterns (in this case by the Phelps Dodge Copper Refining and Chemical Plant) have removed all traces of the former station, which is currently along 56th Road (Laurel Hill Boulevard) halfway between 43rd and 48th Streets.

The Greenpoint Avenue Bridge is a drawbridge that carries Greenpoint Avenue across Newtown Creek between the neighborhoods of Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Blissville, Queens in New York City. Also known as the J. J. Byrne Memorial Bridge, the bridge is named after James J. Byrne, who served as Brooklyn Borough President from September 1926 until he died in office on March 14, 1930. Previously, Byrne was the Brooklyn Commissioner of Public Works.

St. Raphael's School was a private, coeducational Catholic elementary school in Long Island City, Queens in New York City. St. Raphael's campus encompasses 8 separate buildings situated on private grounds. Saint Raphael School was founded in 1956, by the Religious Sisters of Mercy upon the urging of Msgr. John McMurray, then pastor of the now defunct St. Raphael Parish. It closed in 2012 after falling enrollment made continued operation untenable.

Brooklyn Steel is a 1800-capacity music venue in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States. In 2018 Brooklyn Steel was named one of the 10 best live music venues in America by Rolling Stone Magazine.Construction for the venue began in July 2016, and it opened on April 6, 2017, with a five-night run of sold-out concerts by American rock band LCD Soundsystem. The venue contains a main floor, a balcony, forty restrooms, and three bars. The name of the venue was inspired by the fact that the building was originally used as a steel manufacturing plant. Much of the steel from the original building was repurposed for the venue.

Triangle 54 is a 8,973.36-square-foot (833.652 m2) public park located in the Blissville neighborhood of Long Island City in Queens, New York City. This traffic triangle is bound by 48th Street on the southwest and east, and 54th Avenue on the north. The park contains ten trees and a memorial flagstaff in its center that dates to 1930. On its granite base is inscribed, "Erected by the citizens of Laurel Hill in memory of those who died in the World War." Laurel Hill is an old name for this area, which once had its own railroad station. The name still appears on the map in Laurel Hill Boulevard, which runs a few blocks to the north of this site.In the years after World War II, that war was added to the inscription, along with the Korean War and Vietnam War.

Monsignor McGolrick Park is located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, in New York City, between Driggs Avenue to the south, Russell Street to the west, Nassau Avenue to the north, and Monitor Street to the east.

Haberman was a station along the Long Island Rail Road's Lower Montauk Branch that was located at the intersection of Rust Street and 50th Street in Maspeth, Queens. The station is named after the Haberman Steel Enamel Works in Berlin Village.Haberman opened as a station for the convenience of workmen in September 1892; service was furnished by the Long Island City-East New York Rapid Transit trains. There never was a station building. The station still had manual railroad crossing gates and a guard shack as recently as 1973. It was closed on March 16, 1998 along with Penny Bridge, Fresh Pond, Glendale and Richmond Hill stations; average daily westbound ridership at the station in 1997 was 3. In January 2018, Haberman was one of 8 stations on the Lower Montauk Branch that were recommended for reopening in a study sponsored by the New York City Department of Transportation.On some maps Haberman mistakenly appears as the name of a neighborhood.

Saint Cecilia's is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Diocese of Brooklyn located at North Henry and Herbert streets, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York. It is named for Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music. It is a contributing building in the Greenpoint Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Queens Technical High School is a public career and technical education secondary school located in Long Island City, NY. The school has an enrollment of 1,513 students and serves grades 9-12. A new wing, completed in 2005, added a cafeteria, library, gymnasium, and additional classrooms. The following career and technical programs are available to students: Careers in Business, Electrical Design and Installation, Plumbing Design and Technology, Pre-Engineering Electronic Technology, Computer Technology and Information Systems, Cisco networking, Cosmetology Careers/Salon Management, Barbering, and Graphic Design.
