Lake Xochimilco

Xochimilco Ecological Park and Plant Market is a natural reserve or park, with a 13-hectare (32-acre) plant market, the largest in Latin America. The park and market are located in the southern Mexico City borough of Xochimilco, about 23 km south of the historic center of the city. The park was designed by Mario Schjetnan. The park was inaugurated in 1993, on chinampas (artificial lake islands) which had been previously declared as part of a World Heritage Site. However, the area's ecology was badly degraded, and the park was established in order to revitalize and preserve the ecosystem. Success has been mixed. While much of the wetlands have been recharged, pollution and illegal settlements in the area remain as threats. As the park needs to be self-sustaining economically, there are a number of ways that the park raises money. One of the best known of these is the Xochimilco or Cuemanco Plant Market, which rents stalls to ornamental plant producers/sellers near the main entrance of the park.

The Island of the Dolls (La Isla de las Muñecascode: spa promoted to code: es ) is a chinampa of the Laguna de Tequila located in the channels of Xochimilco, south of the center of Mexico City, Mexico. It is a popular tourist attraction due to dolls of various styles and colors being found throughout the island. They were originally placed by the former owner of the island, Julián Santana Barrera, who died from a heart attack in 2001. He believed that dolls helped to chase away the spirit of a girl who drowned years ago.

UAM Xochimilco is one of the five academic units of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City. UAM Xochimilco is located in the southern portion of the city and was founded on November 11, 1974. It offers 18 undergraduate degrees.

San Bernardino de Siena Church is the parish church of the borough of Xochimilco in Mexico City. The church and former monastery complex was built in the 16th century over a former pre Hispanic temple as part of evangelization efforts after the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. Since its construction, it has been the center of much of Xochimilco’s history and social life, including ceremonies related to is famous image of the Child Jesus called the Niñopa. The interior of the church contains a rare 16th-century altarpiece in Plateresque style with no columns or other such supports. The only other altarpiece like it is in Huejotzingo, Puebla.

The Niñopa or Niñopan is the most venerated image of the Child Jesus in the Mexico City borough of Xochimilco. It was created over 430 years ago in the San Bernardino monastery, as part of evangelization efforts. Since then it has been in the possession of the community. Rather than being kept in the parish church it is in the custody of a sponsor or mayordomo, whose family is in charge of the many festivities and traditions associated with the image for a year. These include taking care of the image proper along with taking the image to church and to visit the sick. It also includes sponsoring many parties especially on certain dates such as Candlemas and Day of the Child on April 30.

Francisco Goitia is one of the stations that are part of the Xochimilco Light Rail, belonging to the only existing line of the system. It is located in the south of Mexico City in the borough of Xochimilco.

Colegio Alejandro Guillot is a private school with three campuses in Tlalpan, Mexico City. Its kindergarten and primary school campus is in Colonia Ex Hacienda Coapa. Its middle school campus and its high school campus are both in Colonia Nueva Oriental Coapa.

The Museo Dolores Olmedo (or the Dolores Olmedo Museum) is an art museum in Xochimilco, Mexico City, based on the collection of the Mexican businesswoman Dolores Olmedo. The museum will be relocated to Chapultepec in 2024.

Instalaciones La Noria is the training ground and academy of professional football club Cruz Azul. It has been the home of Cruz Azul's reserve and youth teams for several years and, since 2020, also serves as the training ground for the club's women's team. Opened in 1990, it is located in the borough of Xochimilco in Mexico City.

Colegio Madrid, A.C. is a private school in Col. Ex Hacienda San Juan de Dios, Tlalpan, Mexico City, serving preschool through senior high school (bachillerato). In 1941 an exile, named Marcos De La Monja, from the Spanish Civil War established the school.

The Estadio Valentín González is a multi-use stadium located in Xochimilco, Mexico City, Mexico. It is mainly used for football matches and currently has a capacity for approximately 2,500 spectators.In 2021 it was designated as the official pitch of Atlético Capitalino, a club that competed in the Liga de Balompié Mexicano. However, due to disagreements with the Xochimilco government over the use of the property, the team was only able to play one game at the venue, forcing it to change venues again in the middle of the season. In 2023 it was the stadium chosen as its new ground by CDM F.C., a team from the Liga Premier de México – Serie B, so the Valentín González once again hosted professional matches.Most of its history the stadium has only been used for a few matches, mainly in the amateur category, as well as for various events in general throughout the year.

Instituto Global para la Sostenibilidad (Global Institute for Sustainability) is a globally and environmentally focused organization founded by María Isabel Studer Noguez at the Tec de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU). It was founded as an extension of the ASU's Global Institute for Sustainability as an extension, the first and only one of its kind in Latin America. The institute holds and sponsors research, educational events and program and activism on its own and in collaboration with business, educational and governmental agencies.
