Rickleton

Vigo railway station served the Barley Mow and Vigo areas of the town of Birtley in Tyne and Wear (historically County Durham) in England. The station, on the Stanhope and Tyne Railway , was opened in 1835 and closed in 1853. It reopened in 1862 and closed for the final time in 1869.The line remained open to passengers until 1955 and to freight until the 1980s. The site of the station has since been demolished and the trackbed now forms part of the Consett and Sunderland Railway Path between Washington and Chester-le-Street following the course of the old railway line.

Lambton is an area of Washington, Tyne and Wear, which is part of the City of Sunderland metropolitan borough in north east England. It lies about 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Chester-le-Street. It is historically part of County Durham. It is linked to the Lambton family, Lambton Castle and is the home of the Lambton Worm. New Lambton is located just a few miles from the Lambton estate.

Fatfield is an area of Washington, Tyne and Wear, England. The southern part of the village by the River Wear is popular for country walks and the three public houses and working men's club on the banks of the river. The site of the original village is just to the west.

Chester New Bridge is a Grade II* listed medieval stone bridge over the River Wear near Chester-le-Street in County Durham, England. It carries Black Drive, the private entrance road to Lambton Castle, across the Wear just north of the A1052 road bridge, which superseded it in 1926. Frank Graham in Bridges of Northumberland and Durham describes it as "a fine 14th century bridge" but the official English Heritage listing citation considers it to be "probably C15". The parapet, which English Heritage suggest may be partly rebuilt, bears a worn inscription referring to "Charles Swinburne's Leap", an incident in which a horse and its rider were killed falling from the bridge. The bridge has a span of approximately 45 metres (148 ft) and four pointed arches with cutwaters on each pier. An archway at its eastern end, erected in 1815 by Ignatius Bonomi, marks the entrance to the Lambton Estate.

Harraton is a former civil parish and now a suburb in the unparished area of the town of Washington, in the City of Sunderland metropolitan borough, in Tyne and Wear, England. Harraton is near the River Wear and is 3 miles north-east of Chester-le-Street, 2 miles south-west of Washington town centre and 9 miles south-southwest of Sunderland. When nearby Washington (historically a village) was founded as a new town under the New Towns Act in 1964, Harraton alongside the neighboring villages of Chaters-Hough, Fatfield, Cox Green and Picktree became suburbs of Washington forming the southern suburbs of the town. Certain developments also took place for overspill for the nearby towns of Chester Le Street and Houghton-le-Spring (also in the City of Sunderland metropolitan borough). It is on the main road serving Seahouses and the northern coast. In 1961 the parish had a population of 3,565.

Oxclose Community Academy (formerly Oxclose Community School) is a coeducational secondary school located in Oxclose in the City of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England.The school was rebuilt in 2007 under the Building Schools for the Future programme. Previously a community school administered by Sunderland City Council, Oxclose Community School converted to academy status in November 2012 and was renamed Oxclose Community Academy. However the school continues to coordinate with Sunderland City Council for admissions. Oxclose Community Academy offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. Graduating students usually go on to attend Usworth Sixth Form or Sunderland College. The school is also the location of the North East of England Japanese Saturday School. It is also the second location of the Pauline Cook School of Dance.

Oxclose is an area of Washington, Tyne and Wear, England. It is located between the A1231, A182 and A195 highways, close to Sunderland, and is well served by links from the A1(M) which passes within 1 mile (1.6 km) of Oxclose's boundaries. Oxclose covers an area of approximately 0.1 square miles (300,000 m2) and has a population of around 3800 (2001 Census). There are two churches, a 'Multi-Purpose' Centre and a village centre which contains a shop, newsagents, fish and chip shop and a local pub called The Ox and Plough. It is also near to the Galleries Shopping Centre.

Lambton Castle stands above Chester-le-Street, County Durham and is a stately home, the ancestral seat of the Lambton family, the Earls of Durham. It is listed in the mid-category of listed building, Grade II*.

North Lodge is a civil parish in County Durham, England. The parish covers an area lying to the north of the town of Chester-le-Street, and includes Lambton Castle. The parish was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, which divided the former parish of Harraton between Tyne and Wear and County Durham. The part of Harraton within the designated area for the new town of Washington (including Harraton village itself) was transferred to the metropolitan borough of Sunderland. The remainder of the former Harraton parish stayed in County Durham and became a new parish called North Lodge, taking its name from a lodge house on North Road which stood beside one of the former driveways leading to Lambton Castle.North Lodge Parish Council generally meets at the Park View Lower School on Lombard Drive.

Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy (formerly Lord Lawson of Beamish Community School) is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in the town of Birtley in the Gateshead area of Tyne and Wear, England. It was first opened to pupils in the early 1970s and was rebuilt in September 2007. The new building was constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine. Previously a community school administered by Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council, in March 2012 Lord Lawson of Beamish Community School converted to academy status and was renamed Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy. The school's principal is Andrew Fowler who began his headship in June 2019. It was most recently inspected by Ofsted in February 2017 where it was assigned a 'Requires Improvement' grading (or 3/5 stars) in all areas of the framework with the exception of 16-19 study programmes.

Lumley Castle is a 14th-century quadrangular castle at Chester-le-Street in the North of England, near the city of Durham and a property of the Earl of Scarbrough. It is a Grade I listed building. It is currently a hotel.

Durham Turnpike railway station served the towns of Birtley (historically County Durham, now Tyne and Wear) and Chester-le-Street as well as the village of South Pelaw in County Durham, England. The station was on the Stanhope and Tyne Railway and opened in 1835, only to close in 1853. It reopened in 1862 along with nearby Vigo but closed again in 1869. The line remained open for passenger services until 1955 and to freight until the 1980s. The line and station site now form the Consett and Sunderland Railway Path between Chester-le-Street and Washington. The station straddles the border between the modern-day counties of County Durham and Tyne and Wear. The station despite its namesake, did not serve the city of Durham which was eight miles southwest from the station.
