Rickleton is an area of Washington, Tyne and Wear, England. It is located on the south side of Washington Town and borders Harraton village, Birtley and County Durham. The village centre includes a Londis supermarket, a general store, a hairdressing salon, a Fish and Chip takeaway and a bus link, which has buses linking to other areas of Washington and County Durham. A family pub, The Woodlands, Washington Cricket club, two doctors surgeries and a chemists can also be found here. There is also a large field with a small children's playing area located just of the bus route through Rickleton. Vigo Lane is the main road and runs through Rickleton and into Harraton. The Sea to Sea Cycle Route runs through the village, on the site of a disused railway. Rickleton Primary School is located in the village centre.

North Lodge is a civil parish in County Durham, England. The parish covers an area lying to the north of the town of Chester-le-Street, and includes Lambton Castle. The parish was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, which divided the former parish of Harraton between Tyne and Wear and County Durham. The part of Harraton within the designated area for the new town of Washington (including Harraton village itself) was transferred to the metropolitan borough of Sunderland. The remainder of the former Harraton parish stayed in County Durham and became a new parish called North Lodge, taking its name from a lodge house on North Road which stood beside one of the former driveways leading to Lambton Castle.North Lodge Parish Council generally meets at the Park View Lower School on Lombard Drive.

Durham Turnpike railway station served the towns of Birtley (historically County Durham, now Tyne and Wear) and Chester-le-Street as well as the village of South Pelaw in County Durham, England. The station was on the Stanhope and Tyne Railway and opened in 1835, only to close in 1853. It reopened in 1862 along with nearby Vigo but closed again in 1869. The line remained open for passenger services until 1955 and to freight until the 1980s. The line and station site now form the Consett and Sunderland Railway Path between Chester-le-Street and Washington. The station straddles the border between the modern-day counties of County Durham and Tyne and Wear. The station despite its namesake, did not serve the city of Durham which was eight miles southwest from the station.

Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy (formerly Lord Lawson of Beamish Community School) is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in the town of Birtley in the Gateshead area of Tyne and Wear, England. It was first opened to pupils in the early 1970s and was rebuilt in September 2007. The new building was constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine. Previously a community school administered by Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council, in March 2012 Lord Lawson of Beamish Community School converted to academy status and was renamed Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy. The school's principal is Andrew Fowler who began his headship in June 2019. It was most recently inspected by Ofsted in February 2017 where it was assigned a 'Requires Improvement' grading (or 3/5 stars) in all areas of the framework with the exception of 16-19 study programmes.

Chester New Bridge is a Grade II* listed medieval stone bridge over the River Wear near Chester-le-Street in County Durham, England. It carries Black Drive, the private entrance road to Lambton Castle, across the Wear just north of the A1052 road bridge, which superseded it in 1926. Frank Graham in Bridges of Northumberland and Durham describes it as "a fine 14th century bridge" but the official English Heritage listing citation considers it to be "probably C15". The parapet, which English Heritage suggest may be partly rebuilt, bears a worn inscription referring to "Charles Swinburne's Leap", an incident in which a horse and its rider were killed falling from the bridge. The bridge has a span of approximately 45 metres (148 ft) and four pointed arches with cutwaters on each pier. An archway at its eastern end, erected in 1815 by Ignatius Bonomi, marks the entrance to the Lambton Estate.

Pelaw Grange Stadium is a Greyhound Board of Great Britain regulated greyhound racing track located at North Lodge in the English county of Durham, between Chester-le-Street and Gateshead. The stadium has a restaurant and a number of bars and has been owned by the McKenna family since January 1965. Racing takes place every Friday and Saturday night as well as Sunday evenings.

Birtley Town Football Club is a football club based in Birtley, Tyne and Wear, England. They are currently members of the Northern League Division Two and play at the Birtley Sports Complex.

South Pelaw is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated immediately to the north of Chester-le-Street.

Lambton is an area of Washington, Tyne and Wear, which is part of the City of Sunderland metropolitan borough in north east England. It lies about 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Chester-le-Street. It is historically part of County Durham. It is linked to the Lambton family, Lambton Castle and is the home of the Lambton Worm. New Lambton is located just a few miles from the Lambton estate.

Chester-le-Street (), also known as Chester, is a market town and civil parish in County Durham, England, around 5.7 miles (9.2 km) north of Durham. It is located on the River Wear, which runs out to sea at Sunderland to the east. The town holds markets Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.The town's history is ancient, records go back to a Roman-built fort called Concangis. The Roman fort is the "Chester" (from the Latin castra) of the town's name; the "Street" refers to the paved Roman road that ran north–south through the town, now the route called Front Street. The parish church of St Mary and St Cuthbert is where the body of Anglo-Saxon St Cuthbert remained for 112 years before being transferred to Durham Cathedral and site of the first Gospels translation into English, Aldred writing the Old English gloss between the lines of the Lindisfarne Gospels there.From 1894 until 2009, local government districts were governed from town. From 1894–1974, it had a rural district, which covered the town and outlying villages. In 1909 the inner rural district formed an urban district, which covered the town as it was at that time. By 1974 the town expanded out of the urban district, during that year's reforms the urban and rural districts as well as other areas formed a non-metropolitan district. It was abolished in 2009 reforms when the non-metropolitan county became a unitary authority.

The Cong Burn is a small river in County Durham, England. It has its origin in a number of streams, among them Wheatley Green Burn, that rise on the southern and eastern slopes of Wheatley Hill, north of the village of Burnhope, and other streams, principally Whiteside Burn, that have their source on the southern slopes of Wheatley Hill and the northern slopes of Taylor's Hill, just east of Burnhope. These streams come together in the vicinity of West Edmondsley to form the Cong Burn, which flows in a broadly easterly or northeasterly direction, around the northern flank of Waldridge Fell and the western edge of Chester-le-Street, before flowing through the town to join the River Wear immediately east of the town. In 1932, the lower reach of the burn, where it passes through the centre of Chester-le-Street, was channelled into a covered concrete culvert, which passes beneath the town's Market Place.

Oxclose Community Academy (formerly Oxclose Community School) is a coeducational secondary school located in Oxclose in the City of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England.The school was rebuilt in 2007 under the Building Schools for the Future programme. Previously a community school administered by Sunderland City Council, Oxclose Community School converted to academy status in November 2012 and was renamed Oxclose Community Academy. However the school continues to coordinate with Sunderland City Council for admissions. Oxclose Community Academy offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. Graduating students usually go on to attend Usworth Sixth Form or Sunderland College. The school is also the location of the North East of England Japanese Saturday School. It is also the second location of the Pauline Cook School of Dance.
