Mariatrost (German: [maˌʁiːaˈtʁoːst], from Maria ‘Mary’ + Trost ‘comfort’) is the 11th district of the Austrian city of Graz. It has a population of 9.998 (2023) and an area of 13,99km².The Mariatrost Basilica, a famous pilgrimage site, is situated within the district, as is the Graz Tramway Museum.

The Baroque Mariatrost Basilica on top of the Purberg hill in Mariatrost, a district of Graz, is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites of Styria in Austria.The pilgrimage church stands prominently on top of the Purberg hill (469 m) in the northeast of Graz. It can be reached using the 200 or more steps of the Angelus stair. The basilica is classified as a Baroque building. Two front towers (61 m) and a dome, visible from a great distance, are the characteristic attributes of the church, which is enclosed by two projecting wings of a former monastery once occupied by the Pauline Fathers (1708–86) and later by the Franciscans (1842–1996).The building was begun in 1714 by Andreas Stengg and his son Johann Georg Stengg and finished in 1724. The pulpit by Veit Königer (1730/31) is the masterpiece of the furnishings. The frescoes on the ceiling by Lukas von Schram and Johann Baptist Scheidt are of particular importance.The main altar includes a statue of the Madonna originally created in the Gothic period around 1465, but altered to the Baroque style in 1695 by Bernhard Echter.Father David Bauer, a Canadian ice hockey coach and Basilian priest, attracted a following while coaching in Austria and conducted mass on several occasions at the basilica.On 28 October 1999 the church was nominated as a basilica minor.The Mariatrost Basilica is the second most important Marian shrine of Styria after Mariazell Basilica.

The Tramway Museum Graz is a transport museum in the Austrian city of Graz, specialising in the history of the Graz tramway network. It is located in the former tram depot at the Mariatrost terminus of Graz tram route 1.The museum houses a collection of some 30 rail vehicles, including motor trams, trailers, works cars, horse cars and funicular cars. While most vehicles are from Graz, there are also exhibits from Vienna, Innsbruck, Dubrovnik and New York.The building housing the museum was originally the depot of the Kleinbahn Graz–Mariatrost, a metre gauge electric railway that was subsequently regauged to standard gauge and incorporated into the Graz tramway system. It is near to the Mariatrost Basilica, a much visited pilgrimage church. The museum is only open on occasional open days, of which there were four in 2013, or by appointment.

Waltendorf (German: [ˈvaltn̩ˌdɔɐ̯f] is the 9th district of the Austrian city of Graz. It borders the districts of Ries to the north, St. Peter to the south and St. Leonhard mostly to the west. It had a population of 12.158 (January 2023) and covers an area of 4.48 square kilometres. The postal codes of Waltendorf are 8010, 8042 und 8047. There are two small castles in the district the 'Schloss Lustbühel' and the 'Hallerschloss', as well as a church the 'Rupertikirche' in 'Hohenrain'. Within the north of the district, next to the Ragnitz brook, there is one of the largest collection of high-risers in Graz, called 'Berliner Ring'. Some of the high risers have the solar water heating systems on their roof tops.

St. Peter (German: [saŋkt ˈpeːtɐ]) is the 8th District of Graz, in Styria, Austria. Its area is 8.86 km2. Its population is 16.629 (1. Jänner 2023). It was formed in 1938 from the villages of Messendorf, Neufeld, Peterstal and Petersbergen.

Raaba-Grambach is a market town in the district Graz-Umgebung in Styria, Austria since 2015. It was created as part of the Steiermärkische Gemeindestrukturreform of Styria at the end of 2014, dissolving the towns Raaba and Grambach. One complaint from both communities against merging was raised at the Constitutional Court but ended unsuccessfully.

Raaba, also known as Raaba bei Graz, was a village, merged into Raaba-Grambach in 2015, in the province of the Austrian state of Styria and a suburb of Graz. Due to its proximity to Graz an area with medium-rise office blocks has developed on the edge of Raaba.

The Herz-Jesu-Kirche (English: Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) is the largest church in Graz, Austria. It was designed down to the last detail by architect Georg Hauberrisser and constructed from 1881 to 1887. The church was designed in the Neogothic style, with a large, high nave and under-church. The tower is 109.6 meters tall, making it the third-highest church tower in Austria. Of special note are the stained glass windows, which are among the few extant examples in Austria of Neogothic stained glass. The altar area was remodelled in 1988 by Gustav Troger, just after the centenary of the church. Apart from that, everything is still according to the architect's concept.

The Institute for Applied Information Processing and Communications (IAIK) is part of the Faculty of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering at the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz). IAIK is concerned with aspects of computer security and information security. Current focal points are set on design of new cryptographic algorithms, implementation of cryptographic algorithms and protocols in hardware as well as in software, network security, e-Government, and trusted computing. IAIK conducts applied research into these areas, fostering a holistic view of the aspects of computer and information security. Teaching activities closely follow the latest developments in IAIK’s research fields. The activities of IAIK are led by Stefan Mangard after Reinhard Posch abdicated in 2019.
