The Opera Tunnel (Norwegian: Operatunnelen) is a motorway tunnel system under Oslo city center between Filipstad in the west and Ryen in the east. The tunnel consists of four parts built at different times. From west to east are the Festning Tunnel and Bjørvika Tunnel, which are part of European route E18, and the Ekeberg Tunnel and Svartdal Tunnel, which make up a branch of European Route E6. Between the Bjørvika Tunnel and Ekeberg Tunnel is a 111-metre (364 ft) long stretch in the open. The signposted length is 5,767 m (3.58 mi) and the tunnels have a combined length of 15,938 m (9.903 mi).

The Bjørvika Tunnel (Norwegian: Bjørvikatunnelen) is a motorway immersed tunnel on European Route E18 in the city center of Oslo, Norway. The tunnel has two bores, with three lanes in each. In the west, it connects to the Festning Tunnel at Akershus Fortress and runs under the Bjørvika arm of the Oslofjord before ending in an intersection on the east shore, where it splits into Mosseveien (E18) and the Ekeberg Tunnel (National Road 190). The tunnel is 1,100 metres (3,600 ft) long, 675 meters of which run below sea level, and opened in September 2010. It was built by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration The Bjørvika Tunnel is part of the Opera Tunnel complex which is the name of the interconnected system of tunnels between Ryen and Filipstad. The Bjørvika Tunnel is the first immersed tunnel in Norway. The tunnel's cost was estimated to be around 4.6 billion kr, and was financed through Oslo Package 1, with part of the funding coming from the city's toll ring. The project includes an additional 8.0 kilometres (5.0 mi) of roads, 5.7 kilometres (3.5 mi) of pedestrian and cycle paths and 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) of bus lanes. The project will create a 6.0 kilometres (3.7 mi) continuous tunnel from Framnes (at the Kiel ferry terminal) to Ryen. The connection with the Festning Tunnel will require a 100 metres (330 ft) sinking of the latter, and it will have a basement built under it.

Munch Museum (Norwegian: Munch-museet), marketed as Munch (stylised as MUNCH) since 2020, is an art museum in Bjørvika, Oslo, Norway dedicated to the life and works of the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch.The museum was originally located at Tøyen, which was opened in 1963. The museum moved to the new museum building at Bjørvika, which was opened in 22 October 2021.

Munch/Stenersen (Norwegian: Munchmuseet) is a new building in Bjørvika, Oslo completed in 2020. The building was designed by Juan Herreros (Abalos & Herreros). There has been a lot of conflict around the building, considering both its design, functionality and height (14 floors/46 meters). The building lies next to the Oslo Opera building together with the upcoming Oslo Public Library complexes. The building is called "Lambda" by the architect/designer.

Grønlia is a neighborhood in the Oslo borough of Gamle Oslo. It is located below Ekebergåsen, along the Oslofjord, south of Sørenga and north of Kongshavn. The area is dominated by the Port of Oslo and railway tracks. As part of the Fjord City urban renewal program, the area will become a residential area.

The Oslo Opera House (Norwegian: Operahuset) is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera theatre in Norway. The building is situated in the Bjørvika neighbourhood of central Oslo, at the head of the Oslofjord. It is operated by Statsbygg, the government agency which manages property for the Norwegian government. The structure contains 1,100 rooms in a total area of 49,000 m2 (530,000 sq ft). The main auditorium seats 1,364 and two other performance spaces can seat 200 and 400. The main stage is 16 m (52 ft) wide and 40 m (130 ft) deep. The angled exterior surfaces of the building are covered with marble from Carrara, Italy and white granite and make it appear to rise from the water. It is the largest cultural building constructed in Norway since Nidarosdomen was completed circa 1300.

Akerselva or Akerselven (English: Aker River) is a river which flows through Oslo. It starts at Maridalsvannet in Oslomarka, and traverses the boroughs of Nordre Aker, Sagene, Grünerløkka, central Oslo and Grønland, whereby it finally ends at Paulsenkaien and Oset in Bjørvika. The river is considered to be a part of the Nordmarkvassdraget, and has the Norwegian watercourse number 006.Z. The entire river is about 8.2 kilometres (5.1 mi) long, and has a difference in elevation between source and mouth of approximately 149 metres (489 ft). In the past, the river was utilized as a source of energy for local industry, and along the river there are many old industrial buildings. In the 1970s, the river was heavily contaminated after 150 years of industrial and sewage discharge. In the 1980s, a local initiative to limit emissions and revive the flora and fauna of the river began.Akerselva has largely been rehabilitated is now "Oslo’s green lung" and along the bank of the entire river from Grønland to Maridalsvannet there are park areas. Salmon run and spawn in the upper part of the river. Early in March 2011, Oslo's water and wastewater department accidentally discharged 6,000 litres (1,600 US gal) of chlorine into the river near its headwaters, rendering the river virtually dead as of 11 March 2011. According to Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, the discharge occurred at the water treatment plant Oset.

She Lies is a public sculpture by Monica Bonvicini made of stainless steel and glass panels measuring approximately 12 metres (39 ft) by 17 metres (56 ft) by 16 metres (52 ft) next to the Oslo Opera House, in Norway. It is a permanent installation, floating on the water in the fjord on a concrete platform, rising 12 metres (39 ft) above the water surface. The sculpture turns on its axis in line with the tide and wind, offering changing experiences through reflections from the water and its transparent surfaces.

Bispelokket (literally "bishops lid") was a Norwegian three-level stack interchange roundabout in Bjørvika, Oslo. European Route E18 and Norwegian National Road 162 (until 2010: National Road 4) jointed at this point, which also served as the official traffical centre of the city. The new roundabout at Postgirobygget is from October 31, 2011, the new traffical centre of Oslo. Bispelokket gradually opened between 1966 and 1968, and was visited by at the most 140,000 vehicles a day until Bjørvikatunnelen was introduced as a complete tunnel system in 2010 and the amount declined to 40,000. Bispelokket ceased to function as a roundabout on October 28, 2011, at 10 pm. The physical demolition was launched by the Norwegian prime minister Jens Stoltenberg, November 4, 2011, at 1:46 pm. As a complex road intersection, Bispelokket was not recognized as an aesthetical suitable landmark in the cityline of Oslo. Sinsenkrysset is from October 31 the most visited Norwegian road intersection by 100,000 vehicles a day.

The Fjord City (Norwegian: Fjordbyen) is an urban renewal project for the waterfront part of the centre of Oslo, Norway. The first redevelopment was at Aker Brygge during the 1980s. Bjørvika and Tjuvholmen followed up during the 2000s, while the remaining parts of the Port of Oslo will be developed in the 2010s. The port will be relocated to Sørhavna. The planning is performed by the Oslo Waterfront Planning Office. Major investments in the area include a new Central Railway Station, an already completed Oslo Opera House, and the commercial buildings in the Barcode Project. Several large cultural institutions will be moved to Bjørvika, including moving the Oseberg Ship, Oslo Public Library, and the Munch Museum. The main barrier between the city and the fjord will disappear when European Route E18 is relocated to the Bjørvika Tunnel.

Aker was a former independent municipality in Akershus, Norway, that constitutes the vast majority of the territory of the modern city of Oslo. The name originally belonged to a farm which was located near the current Old Aker Church. The church in turn became the source of the name of the parish and later municipality as well as Akershus Fortress, the main fief and main county of Akershus which included most of Eastern Norway until 1919, the smaller county of Akershus, and numerous institutions within this area. Aker municipality was in terms of population by far the largest municipality of Akershus county and surrounded the capital city of Christiania (renamed Oslo in 1925) until 1948; Aker was 27 times larger than the capital it surrounded. In the late 19th century Aker ceded some of its territory to Christiania, and in 1948 Aker merged completely with Oslo municipality to create the modern, vastly enlarged Oslo municipality. The merger was unpopular in Aker, which at the time was an affluent suburban community. The Aker name remains in use in two districts of Oslo, Vestre Aker and Nordre Aker, which are only a small part of former Aker municipality.

The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet (Norwegian: Den Norske Opera & Ballett) is a Norwegian opera company and ballet company. The first fully professional company each for opera and ballet in Norway and the only such professional organisation in the country, it is currently resident at the Oslo Opera House, since the spring of 2008.
