Allatoona, Georgia

The Battle of Allatoona, also known as the Battle of Allatoona Pass, was fought October 5, 1864, in Bartow County, Georgia, and was the first major engagement of the Franklin-Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. A Confederate division under Maj. Gen. Samuel G. French attacked a Union garrison under Brig. Gen. John M. Corse, but was unable to dislodge it from its fortified position protecting the railroad through Allatoona Pass.

Red Top Mountain State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in the northwestern part of the state, on the northwestern edge of metro Atlanta, in southeastern Bartow County near Cartersville. Named for iron-rich Red Top Mountain, the park covers 1,776 acres (6.32 km2) on a peninsula jutting north into Lake Allatoona, formed on the park's north and east sides by the Etowah River arm and on the west by Allatoona Creek arm. During the 1864 Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War, the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought on a battlefield near the park. (The battle of Allatoona Pass National Historical Registry Marker is across Lake Allatoona on the south side, off Allatoona Road, or the Emerson exit off Interstate 75.) The park's main popularity however comes from being near Atlanta, and just off Interstate 75. It is one of the most-visited parks in the state. A modern lodge was constructed in 1985, but closed, along with the restaurant and conference rooms, June 30, 2010, due to statewide budget cuts.

North Metro Technical College (commonly North Metro Tech, or NMTC ) was a two-year state technical college located in the state of Georgia, and governed by the Technical College System of Georgia. The college was accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees since 2006. Since the beginning of July 2009, it is now the North Metro campus of nearby Chattahoochee Technical College.

Emerson is a city in far southern Bartow County, Georgia, United States, on highways US-41, GA-293, and I-75. The population was 1,470 at the 2010 census, an increase of 34% over the 2000 count of 1,092. Emerson is a gateway to Red Top Mountain State Park, a Georgia state park, which is surrounded by Lake Allatoona.

The Acworth Downtown Historic District, in Acworth, Georgia, is a historic district roughly bounded by Southside Dr., Federal and Lemon Sts, and Senator Richard B. Russell Ave. It is 14 acres (5.7 ha) in area and includes 32 contributing buildings and a contributing structure.It is a linear district along Main Street and the CSX railway tracks.

George Washington Carver State Park was a state park in the U.S. state of Georgia. It existed from 1950 to 1975, when it was then leased to Bartow County as a county park known as Bartow Carver Park, and since 2017 as George Washington Carver Park. Red Top Mountain, located on Lake Allatoona, consists of 1,553 acres (6 km2) and derives its name from the rich red color of the soil that comes from the high iron content in the ground. In 1950, the state initially leased the land for 25 years from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The park served not only to preserve the area’s history, but also boost Bartow County’s growth and agricultural economy.

Lake Acworth is a 260-acre (110 ha) artificial lake southwest of the city of Acworth, Georgia. It is in the extreme northwestern part of Cobb County. The lake impounds Proctor Creek (not the same as Proctor Creek in nearby Atlanta), and outflows into Lake Allatoona. The low dam is at the point where State Route 92 (Lake Acworth Drive) crosses. (34.0584°N 84.693°W / 34.0584; -84.693 (Lake Acworth Dam)) The city operates Acworth Beach, a public beach and park along the lake's northern shore. It was created by trucking white sand in and putting it over the rust-red clay soil common to the region. Swimming is roped off with floats for protection from the boaters. The Lake Acworth Beach and Beachhouse were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Acworth is a city in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, this city had a population of 22,440, up from 20,425 in 2010. Acworth is located in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains along the southeastern banks of Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona on the Etowah River. Unincorporated areas known as Acworth extend into Bartow, Cherokee and Paulding counties. Acworth's is often referred to as "the Lake City" because of its proximity to Lake Allatoona and Lake Acworth.

Stamp Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Georgia. It empties into Lake Allatoona.Stamp Creek was named from fact livestock stamped the ground at a nearby mineral lick.

Lake Allatoona (officially called Allatoona Lake) is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Etowah River in northwestern part of the State of Georgia. This reservoir is mostly in southeastern Bartow County and southwestern Cherokee County. A small portion is located in Cobb County near Acworth. Cartersville is the nearest city to Allatoona Dam. Also, Red Top Mountain State Park is located on its shores, on the peninsula between the two arms of the lake. Most of the north side of the lake remains protected from land development because of its isolated location, mostly blocked by the lake. The major highways Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41 pass along the southern and western sided of Lake Allatoona, and they cross the Etowah River downstream from the Allatoona Dam.

Mars Hill is an unincorporated community in Cobb County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.Mars Hill Road is a primary corridor through the area and neighboring Lost Mountain. Residents in the community have either Acworth, Marietta, or Powder Springs addresses.

Pine Mountain is a summit in Cartersville, Georgia. At its highest point, the mountain has an elevation of 1,562 feet (476 m). Pine Mountain contains several miles worth of hiking trails.
