The Battle of Allatoona, also known as the Battle of Allatoona Pass, was fought October 5, 1864, in Bartow County, Georgia, and was the first major engagement of the Franklin-Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. A Confederate division under Maj. Gen. Samuel G. French attacked a Union garrison under Brig. Gen. John M. Corse, but was unable to dislodge it from its fortified position protecting the railroad through Allatoona Pass.

Red Top Mountain State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in the northwestern part of the state, on the northwestern edge of metro Atlanta, in southeastern Bartow County near Cartersville. Named for iron-rich Red Top Mountain, the park covers 1,776 acres (6.32 km2) on a peninsula jutting north into Lake Allatoona, formed on the park's north and east sides by the Etowah River arm and on the west by Allatoona Creek arm. During the 1864 Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War, the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought on a battlefield near the park. (The battle of Allatoona Pass National Historical Registry Marker is across Lake Allatoona on the south side, off Allatoona Road, or the Emerson exit off Interstate 75.) The park's main popularity however comes from being near Atlanta, and just off Interstate 75. It is one of the most-visited parks in the state. A modern lodge was constructed in 1985, but closed, along with the restaurant and conference rooms, June 30, 2010, due to statewide budget cuts.

Allatoona is an unincorporated community in Bartow County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. The community is located along Allatoona Creek, 6 miles (9.7 km) southeast of Cartersville. It was once a small mining community until a dam was erected at the base of the Etowah River, completely flooding the town of Allatoona. It is today perhaps best known as the site of the Battle of Allatoona.

Pine Mountain is a summit in Cartersville, Georgia. At its highest point, the mountain has an elevation of 1,562 feet (476 m). Pine Mountain contains several miles worth of hiking trails.

Cartersville High School is a public high school in Cartersville, Georgia. Cartersville is a part of the Cartersville City School System. It was established in 1924 and teaches grades 9 to 12.

The Old Bartow County Courthouse built in 1869 is an historic stately redbrick Italianate style building located at 4 East Church Street in Cartersville, Bartow County, Georgia, United States. Built as Bartow County's second courthouse and the first in Cartersville, it proved to be unsatisfactory because court proceedings had to be halted while trains passed by on the nearby railroad. It was replaced in 1902 by the third Bartow County Courthouse located nearby. The building was then either vacant or used as a warehouse until December 2010 when it became the Bartow History Museum.

The Bartow County Courthouse, built in 1902, is an historic redbrick Classical Revival style county courthouse located on Courthouse Square in Cartersville, Bartow County, Georgia, United States. Designed by the Louisville, Kentucky architectural firm of Kenneth McDonald & Co. together with self-taught Georgia architect J. W. Golucke, who is said to have designed 27 courthouses in Georgia and four in Alabama, it is Bartow County's third courthouse and the second one built in Cartersville. The first courthouse built in Cassville, while the county was known as Cass County, was burned by General Sherman's troops in 1864. In 1867 the county seat was moved to Cartersville and the second courthouse was built in 1873. It proved to be unsatisfactory because court proceedings had to be halted while trains passed by on the nearby railroad. In 1992 a courthouse annex known as the Frank Moore Administration and Judicial Center was completed. While the 1902 building is still used for some court purposes, most of the proceedings are held in the 1992 building.On September 18, 1980, the 1902 courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The First Presbyterian Church in Cartersville, Georgia, also known as Friendship Presbyterian Church, is a historic Presbyterian church at 183 W. Main Street. It was started in 1853 and was added to the National Register in 1991.The Friendship Presbyterian Church was organized in 1843, south of Cartersville.

The Sam Jones Methodist Church (formerly Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church) at 100 W. Church St. in Cartersville, Georgia was built in 1907. It was designed by Atlanta architect Walter T. Downing. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.The church was deemed significant architecturally as a "fine example of a church built in the Classical Revival Style exemplified by the use of a full entablature and portico." It is also notable for its association with one of the county's oldest Methodist churches, and for its namesake Sam P. Jones.It is named for Sam Jones (1847–1906)—a native of Oak Bowery, Alabama, who lived in Cartersville from the age of twelve and is buried in Cartersville—an evangelist who preached across the United States. After his sudden death during the construction of their new church, the Cartersville Methodist Episcopal Church South renamed itself in his honor.

Booth Western Art Museum, located in Cartersville, Georgia, is a museum dedicated to the Western United States. It is one of only two museums of its kind in the Southeastern United States, the other being the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art in St. Petersburg, FL. The Booth opened its doors in August 2003 with 80,000 square feet (7,400 m2) of contemporary art, illustration, movie posters, Civil War art, Indigenous Art and depiction, Presidential portraits and letters, authentic stagecoaches, and an interactive hands-on gallery for children based on a working ranch.A 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) expansion, completed in October 2009, doubled the Museum’s exhibition space allowing for even more Western artwork to be displayed. Now at 120,000 square feet (11,000 m2), Booth Museum is the second largest art museum in Georgia, and houses the largest permanent exhibition space for Western art in the country, with examples of early Western artists such as George Caitlin, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, and others. However, the core of the collection is built around living artists of traditional Western imagery such as Howard Terpning, Ken Riley, and G. Harvey, as well as more contemporary artists like Ed Mell, Thom Ross, Donna Howell-Sickles, Kim Wiggins and others.

The Cartersville City School District is a public school district in Bartow County, Georgia, United States, based in Cartersville. It serves the city of Cartersville in Bartow County. The school board maintains schools for pre-school to grade twelve. There is one primary school, one elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. The district has 226 full-time teachers and over 3,940 students.
