Kirche am Steinhof

Steinhof in Vienna, Austria, is an old name for an area of Vienna that today contains the Otto-Wagner-Spital as well as its church Kirche am Steinhof and the surrounding parks of the Steinhofgründe, which were opened in 1907. Historically the area is also linked to the Am Spiegelgrund clinic, where 789 patients, mostly children, were murdered during World War II under the child euthanasia in Nazi Germany from 1940 to 1945.The name derives from the quarries of nearby Ottakring, which were called Steinhöfe (English: stone yards). The area used to belong to Lower Austria, but was assigned to the 14th district of Vienna, Penzing, after the Anschluss of Austria to Nazi Germany in 1938.

The Otto-Wagner-Spital (English: Otto Wagner Hospital) is a hospital in Vienna, Austria. It was originally a psychiatric hospital and center for pulmonology. The hospital lies in Steinhof, an area of the 14th district of Vienna, Penzing, and was built according to the plans of architect Otto Wagner and opened in 1907. The building is made up of 60 pavilions that were designed by Carlo von Boog. The Kirche am Steinhof is located at the center of the compound. An art nouveau theater is found further on the grounds.In 2000, five health facilities were consolidated under the label Sozialmedizinisches Zentrum Baumgartner Höhe - Otto Wagner Spital mit Pflegezentrum (Baumgartner Höhe Social Medicine Center - Otto Wagner Hospital and Care Center). The five facilities are Förderpflegeheim Baumgartner Höhe (advancing care) Neurologisches Krankenhaus Maria-Theresien-Schlössl (neurology) Pflegeheim Sanatoriumstraße (nursing care) Psychiatrisches Krankenhaus Baumgartner Höhe (psychiatry) Pulmologisches Zentrum Baumgartner Höhe (pulmonology).The center also hosts the Gedenkstätte zur Geschichte der NS-Medizin in Wien (Memorial to the History of Nazi-Medicine in Vienna) memorial and exhibition, which opened in 2002.During the Second World War, 789 children were tortured and murdered in the Children's Ward of the hospital.

Baumgarten (Central Bavarian: Baamgoatn) is an area of Vienna's fourteenth district. Until 1891, it was a little village outside the city. Together with the villages Hütteldorf, Penzing, Breitensee and Hadersdorf-Weidlingau it became Vienna's 14th district. Baumgarten was first mentioned in 1200, but probably existed already in earlier times. It was originally subdivided in Ober- and Unterbaumgarten (the upper part and the lower part). In 1850, the two parts were merged into one community. Until the 19th century, it had a very rural character with farms and vineyards and it was a popular summer holiday retreat for the citizens of Vienna. Some of the richer summer guests had built nice summer residences in this area. One of them was known as the "Baumgarten Castle", which was demolished in 1890 and a school was built instead. Right opposite it is the "Baumgarten Casino" that still hosts music and dance events.[1]The artist Gustav Klimt was born in Baumgarten, Linzerstraße 247. The one-story house was torn down in 1966 and replaced by apartment buildings. The commemorative plaque that was originally mounted on the house is now stored at the district museum of Penzing.

Wilhelminenberg Castle (German: Schloß Wilhelminenberg) is a former palace dating from the early 20th century, which is now a four-star hotel, restaurant and conference facility. It is situated on the eastern slopes of the Gallitzinberg, in the Wienerwald western parts of the Austrian capital, Vienna.

The Kuffner observatory is one of two telescope-equipped public astronomical observatories situated in Austria's capital, Vienna. It is situated in the West of the city's Ottakring district, on the slope of the Gallitzinberg at 302 m altitude. Originally a private research institution, it was converted into an educational astronomy facility after World War II as buildings and city lights had encroached to a degree that severely hampered scientific nightsky observations. Today the main tasks of the observatory consist in public education on astronomy, operating and preserving the historical equipment, and minor projects in scientific astronomy. The observatory was noted for its work on photometry, conducted by astronomer Karl Schwarzschild, star catalogs, and the determining of distances to other stars. The observatory has several astronomical instruments of historical interest, including a noted heliometer and large meridian circle, and also a vertical circle.The observatory's first observations were made in 1886.

The Gaugefechtsstand Wien (regional combat command center Vienna) was a World War II subterranean command bunker situated in the densely forested Wienerwald western parts of Ottakring, the 16th district of Vienna. Commonly known as the Schirach-Bunker (named after the Nazi governor for the Reichsgau Wien, Baldur von Schirach), the facilities were constructed between 1942 and 1945 as a massive underground extension to barracks that had been established in 1940.

The Gallitzinberg (449 m) is a forested hill in the West of Austria's capital, Vienna. While it is relatively inconspicuous in the broader context of the Northeastern end of the Wienerwald mountain range, it is nevertheless remarkable because of its multifaceted history, and because it functions as an important recreational area in the Western uphill part of the densely populated Ottakring district. The Eastern slopes of the Gallitzinberg are dominated by mansions that date from the 19th or early 20th century, and are among the best residential areas of Vienna.

Ober St. Veit is a station on U4 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in the Hietzing District. It opened in 1981.

Allianz Stadion is a football stadium which is built on the site of the former Gerhard Hanappi Stadium as the new home of SK Rapid Wien. In international matches the stadium has the no-commercial name Weststadion. Demolition of the old stadium began in early October 2014, after a ceremonial farewell with thousands of fans. By January 2015 almost nothing was left of the old stadium, which allowed foundation works for the new arena. The stadium was officially unveiled when Rapid Wien hosted Chelsea in a pre-season friendly on 16 July 2016.The first competitive match took place in the new stadium on 23 July 2016 when Rapid Vienna hosted SV Ried in the first round of the Austrian Football Bundesliga. Christoph Schößwendter scored the first competitive goal in the newly opened stadium in a 5–0 victory.

The Gerhard-Hanappi-Stadion was a football stadium in Hütteldorf, in the west of Vienna, Austria. It was the home ground of Rapid Vienna. It was officially opened in 1977 as "Weststadion" (Western stadium). In 1980 it was renamed to honour its architect, Austrian football player Gerhard Hanappi (1929–1980). Among fans the stadium was also known as "Sankt Hanappi" (Saint Hanappi), in reference to the fans' slogan Rapid ist uns're Religion (lit. 'Rapid is our religion'). The stadium was demolished in 2014 to make way for the new Allianz Stadion, which was opened on 16 July 2016. During its construction, Rapid Vienna played their home games at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in the Prater.

Fuhrmannhaus is the oldest surviving house in the west of Vienna, Austria. It is part of the 14th borough Penzing.

Unter St. Veit is a metro station on U4 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in the Hietzing District. It opened in 1981.
