Topsham, Vermont

The Elwin Chase House is a historic house at 366 Topsham-Corinth Road in Topsham, Vermont. Built about 1830, it is a well-preserved example of Greek Revival architecture in a rural context. It is most prominent as one of the only known sites in Vermont of the artwork drawn by Rufus Porter, who worked as an itinerant muralist around the time of the house's construction. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The Waits River is a 24.5-mile-long (39.4 km) river in eastern Vermont in the United States. It is a tributary of the Connecticut River, which flows to Long Island Sound. According to the Geographic Names Information System, it has also been known historically as "Wait's River" and as "Ma-houn-quam-mas-see." The Waits River Formation is a rock unit named after the river since it underlies most of the river.The Waits River rises in southwestern Caledonia County in the town of Groton and shortly enters Orange County, where it flows generally southeastwardly through the towns of Orange, Topsham, Corinth and Bradford, to the village of Bradford where it joins the Connecticut River.In the town of Bradford, it collects a short stream known as the South Branch Waits River, which flows eastwardly from Corinth. Further upstream, just south of the village of East Corinth, the Waits collects another tributary known as the Tabor Branch Waits River. The Tabor rises in the northwestern section of the Town of Topsham in an area known as "The Territory" as two smaller branches and flows southeasterly to the village of East Topsham, then southerly toward and through East Corinth.

Waits River is a village in the town of Topsham, Vermont. Located alongside a river of the same name, the village of Waits River is made up of a number of residential homes, several barns and sheds, and a white Methodist church. Waits River Schoolhouse, an early 20th century building which is now a private residence, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Photographs of the village during the foliage season have been popular since at least the 1960s, and scenic images of the village have appeared in jigsaw puzzles, calendars and postcards. The Waits River School is a historic school building on Vermont Route 25 in the Waits River village of Topsham, Vermont. Now a private residence, it was built in 1914 as a combination district school and Grange hall, serving in those roles until 1972 and 1953, respectively. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 for its Colonial Revival architecture and its importance in local educational history.

The Orange-Caledonia-1 Representative District is a one-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Orange-Caledonia-1 District includes all of the Orange County towns of Newbury and Topsham, and the Caledonia County town of Groton. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The one member Orange-Caledonia-1 District had a population of 3,973 in that same census, 2.12% below the state average.

Sugar Mountain Farm is a 70 acres (28 ha) family-operated pig farm in West Topsham, Vermont with approximately 200-400 pastured-raised pigs. The pigs are fed acid whey from a nearby dairy farm, apple pomace leftovers from a nearby cider facility, vegetables, and spent barley from a brewery as opposed to grain.The company has stated that it uses "natural farming methods", also known as permaculture. They only use antibiotics if a pig gets sick. The farm does not use castration to control boar taint, relying on other methods such as selective breeding, diet, and pasturing males away from females. They raised sheep and pigs until 2009, when the farm focused on pork due to lower demand for lamb and wool.As of 2010, the farm had been raising pigs for 12 pig generations in two herds of 40 sows and four boars. The herds comprise crosses of several heritage breeds. Most are Yorkshire crossed with Berkshires, Large Black, Tamworth, Hampshire and Gloucester Old Spots.Initially the farmers had to transport six pigs at a time 150 miles (240 km) to the nearest butcher. Using funding from friends, family members, their own savings, a community-supported agriculture programs of pre-buys by customers and $33,000 from a Kickstarter campaign, they began building a slaughterhouse on the property around 2009, as a do-it-yourself project. Sugar Mountain Farm started butcher shop operations October 15, 2015 under Vermont state inspection.

Groton is the primary village and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Groton, Caledonia County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 419, out of 984 in the entire town of Groton. Groton village is in southern Caledonia County, in the southeast corner of the town of Groton, along U.S. Route 302, which leads southeast 10 miles (16 km) to Wells River and southwest 20 miles (32 km) to Barre. The Wells River flows through the village, running southeast to the Connecticut River at the village of Wells River.

The Alice Lord Goodine House is a historic house at 1304 Scott Highway (United States Route 302) in Groton, Vermont. It presently houses the Groton Free Public Library. The building has a complex history, and is tied to the earliest settlement period of the village. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Corinth ( kə-RINTH) is a town in Orange County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,455 at the 2020 census.Local services include a general store, post office, doctor's office, library, and ball field.

Signal Mountain is a mountain located in Caledonia County, Vermont, in the Groton State Forest. Signal Mountain is flanked to the northwest by Spruce Mountain, and to the southwest by Butterfield Mountain. The north side of Signal Mountain drains into Noyes Pond, thence into the South Branch of the Wells River, the upper Connecticut River, and into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. The east side drains into Heath Brook, thence into the South Branch of the Wells River. The south side drains into the Waits River, another tributary of the Connecticut. The west side drains into Great Brook, thence into the Winooski River, Lake Champlain, and ultimately into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in Canada.

The J.R. Darling Store is a historic commercial building at 1334 Scott Highway (United States Route 302) in Groton, Vermont. It was built about 1895 on a site that has long housed commercial activity, and was the town's last general store. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Brock Hill Schoolhouse is a historic one-room schoolhouse on North Road in rural Newbury, Vermont. Built in 1850, it is a well-preserved example of a mid-19th century schoolhouse with Greek Revival styling. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
