Maplewood is a train station that serves New Jersey Transit's Morristown Line and Gladstone Branch (commonly known as the Morris and Essex Lines) in the township of Maplewood, Essex County, New Jersey. Located in "The Village" in Maplewood at 145 Dunnell Road (near the intersection with Maplewood Avenue), the station services trains from New York Penn Station and Hoboken Terminal to the east along with trains to Summit, Dover, Hackettstown and Gladstone to the west.

Columbia High School is a four-year comprehensive regional public high school in Maplewood, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It serves students in ninth through twelfth grades, as the lone secondary school of the South Orange-Maplewood School District, which includes Maplewood and South Orange, neighboring communities in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1928; its accreditation expires in July 2025.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,926 students and 154.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.5:1. There were 220 students (11.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 41 (2.1% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The South Orange-Maplewood School District is a regional public school district, serving students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from the suburban communities of South Orange and Maplewood, two municipalities in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2019–20 school year, the district, comprised of 11 schools, had an enrollment of 7,353 students and 576.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.8:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

Clinton Township was a township located in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, which existed from 1834 to 1902. Clinton Township was created on April 14, 1834, from portions of Elizabeth Township, Newark Township, Orange Township and Union Township. Clinton Township included present-day Irvington and Maplewood and parts of Newark and South Orange.On April 1, 1861, South Orange Township (now Maplewood) was formed from portions of Clinton Township and Orange.Irvington was formed as an independent village as of March 27, 1874, and became fully independent as a town on March 2, 1898. The town's Clinton Cemetery, opened in 1844, refers to the earlier name. What remained of the old township was absorbed into Newark on March 5, 1902, based on the results of a referendum held on March 11, 1902. The area is now part of the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Newark.

The South Orange Fire Department, is located in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The building was built in 1926 under the direction of architects, Arthur Dillon and Henry L Beadel. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1998. The building serves as the headquarters for the South Orange Fire Department. On April 22, 2002, the South Orange Fire Headquarters was closed due to the presence of asbestos throughout the structure. The building was renovated and reopened several years later.

It is located in the business district of South Orange, near its town hall. It is one of two train stations in the township of South Orange, Mountain Station being the other near the township border. South Orange station was built by the Lackawanna Railroad in 1916.

New Jersey's 10th congressional district is an urban congressional district in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The district consists of portions of Essex, Hudson and Union counties, and includes the cities of Newark and Orange. The district is majority African American and has been represented in Congress by Democrat Donald Payne Jr. since November 2012. The district was previously represented by Donald Payne Jr.'s father, Donald M. Payne Sr., from 1989 to 2012, and became vacant as a result of the elder Payne's death on March 6, 2012. On November 15, 2012, Donald Payne Jr. was sworn into office and on January 3, 2013, he began serving his first full term.The 10th congressional district (together with the 9th) was created starting with the 58th United States Congress in 1903, based on redistricting predicated on the results of the 1900 census. It has been a Newark-based district since 1933, and has been in Democratic hands without interruption since 1949. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of D+30, it is the most Democratic district in New Jersey.

South Orange Village Hall is located in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The building was designed by Rossiter & Wright and built in 1894. The building was added to the New Jersey Register of Historic Places on December 8, 1975 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 28, 1976.

South Orange, officially the Township of South Orange Village, is a suburban township in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 18,484, an increase of 2,286 (+14.1%) from the 2010 census count of 16,198, which in turn reflected a decline of 766 (−4.5%) from the 16,964 counted in the 2000 census. Seton Hall University is located in the township. "The time and circumstances under which the name South Orange originated will probably never be known," wrote historian William H. Shaw in 1884, "and we are obliged to fall back on a tradition, that Mr. Nathan Squier first used the name in an advertisement offering wood for sale" in 1795. Other sources attribute the derivation for all of the Oranges to King William III, Prince of Orange.Of the 564 municipalities in New Jersey, South Orange Village is one of only four with a village type of government; the others are Loch Arbour, Ridgefield Park and Ridgewood.South Orange Village dates back to May 4, 1869, when it was formed within South Orange Township (now Maplewood). On March 4, 1904, the Village of South Orange was created by an act of the New Jersey Legislature and separated from South Orange Township. In 1978, the village's name was changed by referendum to "The Township of South Orange Village", becoming the first of more than a dozen Essex County municipalities to reclassify themselves as townships in order take advantage of federal revenue sharing policies that allocated townships a greater share of government aid to municipalities on a per capita basis.
