South Orange Village Hall

South Orange is a New Jersey Transit station in South Orange, New Jersey along the Morris and Essex (formerly Erie Lackawanna) rail line. It is located in the business district of South Orange, near its town hall. It is one of two train stations in the township of South Orange, Mountain Station being the other near the township border. South Orange station was built by the Lackawanna Railroad in 1916.

The South Orange Fire Department, is located in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The building was built in 1926 under the direction of architects, Arthur Dillon and Henry L Beadel. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1998. The building serves as the headquarters for the South Orange Fire Department. On April 22, 2002, the South Orange Fire Headquarters was closed due to the presence of asbestos throughout the structure. The building was renovated and reopened several years later.

Oheb Shalom Congregation (transliterated from Hebrew as 'Lovers of Peace') is an egalitarian, Conservative synagogue located in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, in the United States. The synagogue is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

South Orange, officially the Township of South Orange Village, is a suburban township in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 18,484, an increase of 2,286 (+14.1%) from the 2010 census count of 16,198, which in turn reflected a decline of 766 (−4.5%) from the 16,964 counted in the 2000 census. Seton Hall University is located in the township. "The time and circumstances under which the name South Orange originated will probably never be known," wrote historian William H. Shaw in 1884, "and we are obliged to fall back on a tradition, that Mr. Nathan Squier first used the name in an advertisement offering wood for sale" in 1795. Other sources attribute the derivation for all of the Oranges to King William III, Prince of Orange.Of the 564 municipalities in New Jersey, South Orange Village is one of only four with a village type of government; the others are Loch Arbour, Ridgefield Park and Ridgewood.South Orange Village dates back to May 4, 1869, when it was formed within South Orange Township (now Maplewood). On March 4, 1904, the Village of South Orange was created by an act of the New Jersey Legislature and separated from South Orange Township. In 1978, the village's name was changed by referendum to "The Township of South Orange Village", becoming the first of more than a dozen Essex County municipalities to reclassify themselves as townships in order take advantage of federal revenue sharing policies that allocated townships a greater share of government aid to municipalities on a per capita basis.

Stone House by the Stone House Brook, also known as Old Stone House, is located at 219 South Orange Avenue in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. It is one of the oldest extant structures in New Jersey, the original portion house built prior to 1680. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 22, 1991, for its significance in historic archaeology, education, community planning and development, and politics/government.

Clinton Township was a township located in Essex County, New Jersey, United States, which existed from 1834 to 1902. Clinton Township was created on April 14, 1834, from portions of Elizabeth Township, Newark Township, Orange Township and Union Township. Clinton Township included present-day Irvington and Maplewood and parts of Newark and South Orange.On April 1, 1861, South Orange Township (now Maplewood) was formed from portions of Clinton Township and Orange.Irvington was formed as an independent village as of March 27, 1874, and became fully independent as a town on March 2, 1898. The town's Clinton Cemetery, opened in 1844, refers to the earlier name. What remained of the old township was absorbed into Newark on March 5, 1902, based on the results of a referendum held on March 11, 1902. The area is now part of the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Newark.

The Orange Lawn Tennis Club is the second oldest tennis club in New Jersey. Located in South Orange, it was established after the Seabright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club.In 1887, Orange Lawn hosted the first men's doubles event of the US Open, then called the U.S. National Championship. The club also hosted the 1946 Davis Cup and the Eastern Grass Court Championships.

Mountain is a New Jersey Transit station in upper South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States, along the Morris and Essex (formerly Erie Lackawanna Morristown Line). The station, built in 1915, was designed by Frank J. Nies. It has been listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and National Register of Historic Places since 1984 and is part of the Operating Passenger Railroad Stations Thematic Resource.

Marylawn of the Oranges Academy, also known as Marylawn of the Oranges High School, was an all-girl, private, Roman Catholic college-preparatory high school for grades 7 through 12 located in South Orange, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth since its founding in 1935, Marylawn was located within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school had been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1962.For over ten years before it closed, Marylawn had a 100% graduation and 100% college acceptance rate.As of the 2009–10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 160 students and 21.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a Student–teacher ratio of 7.3:1.In October 2012, it was announced that the school would close in June 2013.Since March 2018, the former site of the high school has been the home of the STEM Innovation Academy, a joint effort of Montclair State University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the Orange Board of Education and Orange, New Jersey.

The Boland Hall fire was a fatal fire in Boland Hall, a freshman residence hall on the Seton Hall University campus in South Orange, New Jersey, United States on January 19, 2000. Three students died and 58 were injured, several with very serious burns. It was one of the deadliest college fires in recent U.S. history. Two students who started the fire as a prank were indicted in mid-2003, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in late 2006, and were sentenced to five years' imprisonment in early 2007.

Montrose Park Historic District is a historic district located in South Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The buildings in the district were built between c. 1870 and c. 1930 and were added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1997.

Owen T. Carroll Field is a multi-purpose stadium in South Orange, New Jersey, on the campus of Seton Hall University. It is the home field of the Seton Hall Pirates baseball and men's and women's soccer teams. The stadium hosted Seton Hall football team until 1982 when the school cut football. The stadium holds 261 spectators. It is named for Owen T. Carroll, former coach of the Seton Hall baseball team The facility underwent a $6.5 million renovation in 2006 that included a new Field Turf surface and light stanchions. In June 2010, the Field Turf surface was upgraded once again, and in 2013, a new scoreboard was added. In 2019, Seton Hall Baseball will be playing all of their games away from South Orange, including nine Big East "home" games in New York City while the facility undergoes major renovations.
