WXBT's radio studios are on Greystone Boulevard off Interstate 126, near Riverbanks Zoo. WXBT's transmitter is off Frost Avenue in the Denny Terrace neighborhood, near Columbia International University. WXBT has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 5,900 watts. WXBT broadcasts using HD Radio technology. Its second digital subchannel carries the Black Information Network. The subchannel feeds FM translator W288CX at 105.5 MHz.

The Broad River Correctional Institution (BRCI) is a South Carolina Department of Corrections state prison for men located in Columbia, South Carolina. South Carolina's execution chamber is located in Broad River. The adjacent Kirkland Correctional Institution lies just to its south side. The prison opened in 1988. In January 1990, death row inmates were moved from the Central Correctional Institution to Broad River. In 1990, executions began at BRCI. On April 12, 1997, death row inmates were moved to the Lieber Correctional Institution. In September 2017, death row inmates were moved to Kirkland Correctional Institution. On July 11, 2019, death row inmates were moved from Kirkland Correctional Institution to the housing unit that was originally built for them at Broad River.

Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution is a South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) state prison for women in Columbia, South Carolina. The Women's Reception and Evaluation Center, which processes all females entering SCDC, is in the prison.The prison opened in 1973, as "Women's Correctional Institution". It was renamed in 2002 in honor of the first female warden of a maximum-security male prison in South Carolina, Camille Griffin Graham. In October 2019, health care staff at the prison reported that women who reported mental health symptoms were punished with nutraloaf and were denied hygiene items. The warden, Marian Boulware, resigned in January 2020 after the reports. The prison houses the State of South Carolina death row for women.In January 2011, a young female prisoner with a history of mental illness succeeded in committing suicide. The death is under investigation. In February 2019, another prisoner killed herself. In 2012, an inmate went into labor and was not aided by staff. One of her twins was delivered into a toilet where he died. The state reached a settlement for over a million dollars seven years later.The prison is one of 40, and the only prison in South Carolina, participating in Girl Scouts of the USA Beyond Bars program, allowing Girl Scouts visitation/bonding with their incarcerated mothers.

Kirkland Correctional Institution is a state prison for men located in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina, United States, owned and operated by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.Kirkland has a special role in South Carolina's prison system as the point of intake and assessment for all male state prisoners, the site of the state's Maximum Security Unit, and a health care facility. The prison was first opened in 1975, and houses a maximum of 1707 inmates, plus another 50 in the Max unit and 24 in the infirmary. In September 2017, death row inmates were moved to Kirkland Correctional Institution. It is the prison in which Alex Murdaugh is serving his life sentence. The state's Broad River Correctional Institution is adjacent to the north.

Harbison State Forest is a State Forest in Richland County, South Carolina. It is named for Samuel P. Harbison of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who provided the majority of funds for the land purchase. The forest is found in the Midlands region of central South Carolina and comprises 2,177 acres (881.0 ha) of woodland, meadowland, and bottomland located alongside the Broad River in Richland County, South Carolina. Located approximately 8 miles from the downtown area Columbia, South Carolina, Harbison State Forest is one of the largest urban green spaces inside city limits in the eastern United States.
